Chapter 28
Colleen stood still, unable to move as she took in the tall, lanky man standing in front of her. His eyes glittered with excitement as he stared at her.
"It's nice to finally get to meet you after talking to you for so long by email," he said easily.
Colleen just stood there.
He laughed. "Cat got your tongue?" He waved his hand around. "Come on, talk. Why are you so silent? I come here to surprise you, all the way from California. I tie up your friends so that we can talk alone, without interruptions, I even wait until those annoying boys are gone so that you can enjoy dying alone." He slowly withdrew a large knife from a special case, smiling at his reflection in the blade. "I even sharpened the knife so that it will glide in smooth as butter."
Colleen stared at the blade, trying to breathe past the knot in her throat. Her mind raced as she tried to just think, think of anything. Suddenly Shannon pushed her chair over and a large crash was heard.
Caine's head jerked towards the sound and Colleen took the opportunity. She pushed hard against Caine, throwing him off balance and raced through the doorway. She heard him swear behind her and she ran, ran for her life.
She reached the stairs and almost falling, ran round, and ran down, towards the kitchen. Racing to the patio doors, she yanked them open, and ran outside, running for the maze.
Rage
in the cage
And piss upon the stage
There's only one sure way
To bring the giant down
Defunct the strings
Of cemetery things
With one flat foot
On the devil's wing
Colleen ran through the twists and turns, as lightening crashed across the sky
and rain started to fall. She heard Caine yell to her and she kept running,
running into dead ends, stopping, going back, retreating, but always running.
The guys unloaded from the van, Lonnie and Bill walking up to the door with them as they talked about rehearsal and the concert that was tomorrow. Brian paused as he realized that the door was already open but they shrugged and ran in, wanting to get out of the rain.
"Ryan? Guys? We're back," Brian yelled as he hung up his coat. They listened for an answer but didn't hear one as they walked forward.
"They're probably upstairs," Nick suggested as they all headed that way. They reached the workout room and saw them.
"Oh my god," Kevin said as he ran to untie the girls. He yanked the gag off of Shannon as Lonnie and Bill untied Morgan and Ryan. "What happened?" He looked around, suddenly realizing something. "Where's Colleen?"
Shannon breathed deeply as her gag was removed. "He's here. He knocked us out and tied us up and now he's after Colleen."
Kevin grabbed her. "Who?"
"Caine. He's here and he plans to kill Colleen."
*********
"Colleen, you're only delaying the inevitable," Caine yelled through the rain, as he walked through the maze, fingering his knife.
Colleen shivered with cold as she heard him and tried to think but she was bombarded with old memories.
**"You'll enjoy this, just don't fight sweetheart. Don't say a word, just be real still, there's nothing you can do."**
Nothing you can do, nothing you can do. The phrase just echoed over and over in her head, in her mind, in her heart. She couldn't do anything, he was going to kill her.
Crawl
on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living dead girl
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me
Living dead girl
"You're a dead girl, Colleen, a dead girl." Caine said and Colleen froze as
she heard his voice behind her and an arm encircled her throat. "Nonexistent."
Raping the geek
And hustling the freak
Like a hunchback juice
On a sentimental noose
Operation filth
They love to love the wealth
Of an SS whore
Making scary sounds
"We have to find her, where did she go?" AJ yelled as they ran downstairs. They
saw the open patio door and ran for it.
"They've gotta be in the maze," Brian yelled. Kevin didn't bother answering, just ran for the maze, yelling Colleen's name.

Caine's knife dug a little deeper into her throat and Colleen whimpered.
"That's right, be afraid. You don't forget Caine and get away with it." He whispered into her ear. He kissed her neck softly and Colleen stiffened.
"No," she whispered.
"What did you say?"
"No, please, don't."
Caine laughed. "I can do whatever I want. You're going to die for me, Colleen, die for refusing me."
Psyclone

They make you kill
Kevin strained to see through the pounding rain, just wanting to reach Colleen,
to hold her in his arms. Shannon was right beside him, trying desperately not
to cry.
"We have to find her, we will find her," Shannon said.
Kevin
nodded.
Crawl on me
Sink into me
Die for me

"You realized you're the one making me do this. You have to pay, you can't just
tell me to stop talking to you." Caine's hold tightened. "People keep refusing
me, keep leaving me. Well, they'll know not to do that after you."
"I'm sorry, please, just let me go, please," Colleen begged. "I didn't mean to hurt you, I care about you, I do. Please don't hurt me," Colleen sobbed. "Please."
Caine smiled. "Yes, beg me for your life, beg in that pathetically weak voice, you can't do anything about your death. You're useless."
Tears ran down her face as Colleen heard his words. He was right, she was useless, just like before, just like six years ago. Six years ago. Colleen gasped as she realized what she thought.
Six years ago. She wasn't the same at all, she had changed, she had prepared, and she was no longer helpless. No one could take advantage of her again.
"It's time Colleen, time for you to say goodbye." He drew the knife away, drawing strength and began to bring it down.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Shannon stopped as she heard the scream, her heart stopping with it. "Colleen, no."
AJ stiffened and his eyes closed. "God, you can't do this, not to Colleen, please."
Kevin felt like he couldn't breathe but he knew it wasn't over, not with Colleen, not Colleen, not someone as strong and loving as her. Not Colleen. He started running for where the sound came from, the gang following and they saw her as they turned the corner. She was falling, Caine on top of her and there they lay, still.
Kevin ran for them, his hands reaching for Caine, ready to fight.
But there was no need. Caine was dead, his own knife in his heart, his own blood covering him. Kevin turned to Colleen. She lay still, her eyes closed, her skin white.
"Colleen, Colleen," he murmured, picking her up and cradling her in his arms. "Colleen, honey, come on, talk to me." He brushed back some hair from her face and he realized his hand was red with blood, the back of her head was covered in blood. He stilled as he realized something else. She wasn't breathing. "Colleen?" He checked for a pulse.
"Brian, call 911, Colleen has no pulse," Kevin yelled as he started CPR.
Shannon moaned, fearful for her sister. Morgan sobbed as AJ hugged her, trying to comfort and support her. The others gathered round, watching and praying, refusing to believe that it was over.
And
Kevin. He fought for her, as rain pounded on them and thunder crashed.
