Chapter 26
"Good afternoon everyone! That's for tuning into the new K-102. I know it's cloudy outside, but in a few minutes we're going to be talking with an upcoming singer named Lindsay who will surely brighten up your day. We'll be right back after these messages." The DJ, Chris said. Then they were off the air. I was sitting in the waiting room in the radio station. The other day, Lou wanted me to record a few song including the one I had written. The name of it was called "Step Back". It was pretty cool. We recorded it into an upbeat version and then Lou said I would do an interview so people would get to know me. So that explains what I'm doing now. There were two DJ's who would be interviewing me today. The other DJ, Denny (or Dennis), walked into the room and told me they were ready. I smiled and followed him into the little room equipped with microphones, headsets, and swivel chairs.
"OOOhhh... swivel chairs." I said hopping into the seat and spinning around. I turned to see both DJ's staring at my spunkiness. "Sorry, I'm Lindsay." I said extending my hand to both of them. They just laughed. I was really hyper! After we came back from commercial, they asked me simple questions. Like what's my name, things I like, etc.
"So, Linds? Exactly how'd you get started?" Denny asked. He was about 26. He had brown hair in a buzzcut, and hazel eyes. He was pretty good looking.
"Well, I'm friends with Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys and he introduced me to Lou. Actually, he told Lou I had a good voice. Lou listened to me, liked what he heard, and signed me onto the label." I paused. "It wasn't really that easy, but that was pretty much it."
"Sounds good. Alright everyone, we're gonna play Lindsay's song, 'Step Back' and you all gotta call in and tell us what you think." Then with a press of a button the funky dance beats were heard throughout the studio. The other DJ, Will, began talking to me. He had just turned 20. I'm not usually the type looking for guys, but he was so sweet. He reminded me of Nick, except he had light brown hair. It was cut the same way and he had dark blue eyes. Then my song ended and the phone lines were all busy. Denny and Will answered some of the calls.
"Hi! My name is Karen. Hi Lindsay. Hi guys." the young girl said into the phone. We all said 'Hi' at the same time. "Lindsay, I really like your song. Could you tell me who wrote it?" she asked politely.
"Well, thanks a lot. Actually I wrote it just a few weeks ago." I said smiling. We answered some more calls. I was surprised that almost every call was a positive one. There were only two negative calls, but it sounded like a bunch of guys messing around. They asked me some more questions about my music and about touring. It was pretty cool.
"Well, Lindsay, it's been a pleasure having you here. Stop by any time you want to." Will said. I said my thank yous and good-byes and began to exit the studio when I heard someone running towards me. I turned around. It was Will. "Hi Lindsay."
"Well, hello Will. Don't you have to finish the show?" I asked surprised he left the studio.
"Actually I wanted to know if you would like to hang out sometime. I'd like to get to know you better." He said quietly. I looked at him in shock.
"All right, that sounds good. Here's my number. Call me when you have the time." I said writing my number on a piece of paper from my bag and handing it to him.
"Cool. You can count on it. Drive carefully." Will said running back into the building. I drove home thinking about the interview today. I was really happy that my song was on the radio. I pulled into the driveway and walked into the house. I closed the door behind me and ran upstairs to check my answering machine. It was blinking. I pressed the 'play' button and began to take my shoes off.
"Hey sweetie! I know you're not home because I'm listening to you on the radio. You are doing great. I'll see you when I get home. Love ya!" My mom said into the phone excitedly. I laughed.
"Hey Linds! I just heard your song on the radio. It's really good. I can't believe you wrote that!" I heard Brian say.
"Rok, give me the phone! Hey Linds! That was an awesome song! Oh, I'm gonna stop by later since no one is home at your house." Nick said nicely.
"Awwww, how sweet!" Brian said loudly.
"Anyway, see ya later, Linds!" Nick said then hung up the phone. I smiled. They were so funny.
"AAAAHHHHH! I can't believe you were on the radio! That song you wrote was great! You are gonna be such a star! Well, gotta go. See ya!" Kristin screamed into the phone. I laughed. That was my last message. I walked over to my stereo and started listening to the Foo Fighters. They are one of my favorite bands. I like their older stuff and when the had Pat playing guitar. I laid down on my bed and pulled out a sketch book I used to use. I began to draw a person. I think it was a cross between James Van Der Beek and Nick. Then the doorbell rang. I jumped off my bed and jogged down the stairs. I opened up the door and was greeted with a warm hug from Nick.
"Well, hello Nick." I said as he let me go.
"Sorry, I'm just really proud of you. They've played your song about three times in the past two hours." he said excitedly.
"Wow! That's great!" I said smiling. "Want anything to drink?" I asked Nick. He nodded his head 'yes'. We walked into the kitchen. My dogs ran to Nick and started to play around with him. I poured Nick a glass of soda and by the time I was finished the dogs had calmed down. I handed Nick his the glass. "Let's go upstairs." We walked up the steps and into my room. I lowered the volume on my stereo and walked to the balcony door. My room was a little hot and I figured a breeze would be nice in my room. Nick plopped himself down on my bed and when I came back I saw him looking through my sketchbook. I usually drew characters and people, but I had a few landscapes in there. He flipped through the pages while I searched for a hair band. nightstand
"Linds, is there anything you don't do?" Nick asked as I entered my bedroom again.
"Umm...there's plenty of things I don't do." I said sitting down next to him.
"These are really good." Nick said. He looked at the my last sketch which
resembled him. I saw him smile. He closed my book and placed it on my . I
saw him do a double take and pick up the picture of him and I. He smiled.
"Why didn't I get a copy?" He asked pouting. I could only smile at him.
