Chapter 33
I turned around to see Nick. I looked at him shocked. We hadn't really had a conversation in a while and I didn't even see him come into the party. He took my right hand in his and sat down next to me. He turned his chair towards me. "I'm sorry." Nick said. I put my drink back on the table.
"For what?"
"Everything. I shouldn't have acted the way I did." Nick began. I sighed and looked to see Tony and Kristin talking and glancing towards Nick and I.
"To be honest Nick, I haven't the slightest idea you acted the-" I began before Kristin walked up to us.
"Linds, Tony wants to see you. He's over there." She said pointing towards the door we walked into. I nodded and walked towards Tony. "C'mon Nick. Let's go." Kristin said taking Nick by the arm.
When I approached Tony, he took my arm and wrapped it around his. Without any words, we walked out of the party to a bank of elevators. Tony pressed a button and the doors opened a few seconds later. We walked in to see Nick and Kristin getting into another elevator. "I know how you like to look at the stars and everything, so just for the hell of it, I got a room with a balcony and a wonderful view." Tony said. I just smiled thinking about how beautiful the stars would be. We heard this 'ding!' noise and then the doors opened. Tony led me to a room and I walked in straight towards the balcony. I heard someone walk in behind me and then the door closed.
"Hello?" I heard a familiar voice ask. I walked into the room and saw Nick.
"Nick? What are you doing here?" I asked walking towards him.
"I don't know." He said throwing his hands in the air in frustration. "Kristin wanted to me to come here and see something. I saw Tony and he told me to come in here and then he closed the door on me." He said walking towards the door. There was a little note slipped under the crack of the door. Nick read it aloud. "Linds and Nick, Sorry to trick you guys, but you are stuck in that room until you make up! Tony and I will be at the party while you guys talk everything out. -Love ya lots, Kristin and Tony." Nick began to laugh at the note considering Tony knew Nick's "little secret".
"What are you laughing at?" I asked. Am I missing something? He kept laughing. "I swear, Blondie has gone pure loco." I said walking back towards the balcony. Nick lunged at me and began to tickle me.
"What'd you say, Blondie?" He said tickling me. I laughed and kicked my shoes off. I quickly planned my escape and ducked out of Nick's arms. I ran around him and got in a fighting type of stance.
"Bring it on!" I said huskily. Nick laughed and then ran towards me. I jumped up and wrapped my arms around his neck. I fell onto the bed with him on top of me. I tried to scurry away, but Nick's knee was on my dress. "All right, I give up!" I said with my hands in the air. I couldn't move, it was the only thing I could do. He laughed and got off me. "Are we cool now?" I asked sitting on the bed comfortably.
"Linds, I don't think we were ever really mad at each other." Nick explained.
"I agree. Now come with me, I wanna see the stars." I said grabbing his hand and dragging him towards the balcony. I began to gaze at the stars when I felt Nick's arms wrap around my waist. We began to sway as if a song was playing. Nick pulled away as I searched for a constellation. "Hey Nick, there's the big dipper and those three bright stars, they belong to Orion's belt. Can you believe how bright they are?" I asked. There was no answer. I turned around to see Nick thinking. He looked troubled. "Nick?" He looked at me and grabbed hold of my upper arms. He stood in front of me on the balcony. He looked at his feet and back up into my eyes. I saw something different in his eyes. I saw these feelings I had no idea he had for me.
"Lindsay...I...I..." Nick began. I knew exactly what he was trying to say. I stood on my toes and leaned up to kiss Nick. He seemed surprised so I pulled away.
"I know." I said simply.
"How?"
"Well...it's all in the eyes." I said and tapped the side of my head in a
knowing gesture. We both smiled widely as Nick placed his hands on my waist
and brought me close. This time, we kissed knowing we had feelings for each
other, but there's one more question that needs to be answered. How are we
gonna make this work?
