Chapter 1
"This day could not possibly get any fricking worse," I muttered to myself as I stormed out of my apartment, completely ignoring my screaming room mate as I slammed the door closed in her face. I pulled out my keys and hopped into my Beemer, zooming off in a blaze of dust and a squeal of tires. I relaxed as the warm night breeze washed over me from my open window. I glanced up at the sky and saw a falling star, which I always considered good luck or that it might mean some sort of a drastic change in your life.
"I definitely could use that," I thought to myself as a childhood phrase came to mind.
"Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, grant this wish I wish tonight." I picked up the directions Josh, my boyfriend, had given me to the party at one of his many friend's house that night. According to Josh, there was no parental supervision and everybody was gonna be there. I grinned at the thought, then as I read the directions realized the party was 45 minutes away. "Damn it Josh, this better be one kick*ss party," I thought to myself as I maneuvered my way through the unfamiliar roads. *
After getting lost about a million times, I finally pulled up to a house ablaze with lights and you could feel the bass already shaking the ground.
"All right, party time!" I thought as I jumped out of my car. Adjusting my royal blue tube top, I spotted Josh's car and just walked in the house. No one even turned to look at me as I stepped into the crowded family room. A friendly face handed me a cup of punch as I passed by, in search of Josh. Despite my 5'10" stature, there were so many bodies packed in the room that it was impossible to see over anyone.
"Hey Kris, wassup?"
"Krissy, come join us?"
"Hey girl, what's up?" my friends called, but I just passed by with a quick smile and a wave. Finally, I spotted a tall, curly blond haired guy and made my way towards him.
"Yo, Jason!" I called, pushing past a passionately making out couple that never even glanced up at me. Jason turned and his eyes lit up as he yelled, "Hey Kris, what's up?" Moving closer, I smelled the alcohol on his breath and wrinkled my nose, knowing he would be drunk before the night was over.
"Where's Josh?" I yelled in his ear, getting on my tip toes so he could hear me. Josh frowned, his glazed eyes a little unfocused.
"Um, I saw him go upstairs," Jason replied, slurring a little.
"Thanks J. Don't get too drunk, you have a game tomorrow," I warned, heading for the stairs. Why Josh would be upstairs was beyond me, and a small knot of worry began to grow in the pit of my stomach.
"Wait, Kris!" Jason yelled after me as I climbed the last stair, and I saw the truth in his eyes, and my own fears grew as I turned and walked faster and opened the bedroom door.
"Holy sh*t!" I mouthed as the light streamed across Josh and a gorgeous brunette in bed.
"Oh crap," Josh uttered, peering through the blazing hall light. I backed out of the door, right into Jason, as Josh jumped out of bed, pulling on his pants. I held back burning tears as I tore past concerned faces and out the door to my car, throwing the spiked punch into yard.
"Kris, wait! Let me explain!" Josh yelled, his muscular chest gleaming in the bright lights as he ran after me. Makeup and tears running down my face, I only made an obscene gesture as I drove off, not trusting myself to answer. *
*Josh's POV*
I watched the love of my life drive off in a cloud of dust, and knew I'd really screwed up this time. The lush green grass stuck to my feet as I slowly walked back to the porch.
"Man, I screwed up this time, J! What the heck was going through my head!" I moaned as my drunken best friend only nodded.
"Hey man, can I have the blond if you don't want her?" J asked, sipping his beer. I gave him a disgusted look and he left immediately. I held my head in my hands, but made this promise to myself and Krissy.
"Girl, I'm gonna get you back, no matter what it takes this time. I'm gonna keep you for good." *
