Epilogue
*Three years later*
I smiled at Brian as we splashed through the surf, hand in hand, on AJ's beach, our pants rolled up to our knees. Everyone else is farther down the beach, getting a fire started for hot dogs and s'mores. The sun is setting, a rainbow of colors more wonderful than any you'll find in a Crayola box. "What a beautiful sunset," I commented to Brian, running a hand through his curls.
"Almost as beautiful as you, Star." I blushed, smiling shyly at Brian.
"Thanks, B-Rok."
Brian pulled me onto the sand, out of the cooling water. I found myself thinking
back over the past three years. Josh had the book thrown at him, and now is
in jail for life, with no parole. Destiny was caught and charged with assault
and battery. She has a good seven years left to serve in jail. Nick and Nina,
Howie and Danni are still together, and going strong. Cora and Kevin are getting
married in six months. They make each other very happy, I know they'll do well
together. AJ, well, he's still single, dating but he hasn't found that special
someone, yet. I know more than he does, he'll find her soon.
As for Brian and I, we've only grown closer.
"Hope, I wanna ask you something," Brian said softly. The sky is dark now, and the stars are twinkling brightly.
"Brian, look! Make a wish!" A shooting star crossed the sky, leaving a milky white trail behind it. I smiled at Brian, after making a wish.
"What is your question?" Brian smiled and I'm sure my heart stopped as he slowly knelt on one knee, holding a small black velvet box in one hand.
"Kris, you truly are my star, something I've always prayed and wished for. I want you to make my wish come true. Will you marry me, and make me the happiest man in the world?" I stared at Brian for one eternal moment, his blue eyes locked on my face. Everything seemed to slow down, time seemed to stop just for me. The waves paused, even the wind fluttering Brian's blue button down shirt seemed to slow.
"Yes, Brian, I'll marry you!" Brian slipped the ring on my finger and we laughed with happiness, holding each other close.
"C'mon, let's go tell the others," Brian urged, kissing my nose.
"Krissy!" AJ called as we approached, running into me and giving me a big hug. "Congrats, babe!" I laughed and kissed AJ's cheek as he twirled me around through the air.
"What are you talking about, J?" Nina queried, curious. I held my hand out to the firelight.
"Oh my gosh, congratulations!" Nina screeched, attacking me. As everyone congratulated us, AJ pointed to the sky.
"Look!" My mouth dropped open as hundreds of falling stars crossed the sky.
"Even the stars are happy for us," Brian whispered in my ear. His eyes were filled with happiness. I knew then that we were blessed, and that happiness would last us for the rest of our lives.
"Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, grant this wish I wish tonight." *****
