Chapter 11

"Hurry up!" I shouted down the hallway. "They’ll be here any minute!" I was sitting on the bench by the keyboard in the living room. It was 7:58pm. The guys were picking us up at 8pm and they still weren’t ready. I had already been sitting here for about fifteen minutes.

I had woken up this morning with rainbows on my face once again. I had smiled at first, remembering where I was. Then, last night’s events came rushing back to me and my smile had faded. The rest of the day had gone normally, and I had not thought again about the night before.

Stacie had already begun to bug me about keeping my room clean. She’s a real neat freak. She never had to clean her room as a kid because she kept it immaculate to begin with. In fact, last night, or maybe I should say this morning, when we got home the first thing she said was, "Take a shower! You’re covered in dirt and garbage, and you’d better not get anything dirty!" Of course I was going to take a shower. Who would sit around covered in garbage? Stacie just always finds the need to remind me of everything.

Today I had spent the day cleaning the apartment with Deb while Stacie went grocery shopping and to the Laundromat. Of course, Deb and I only cleaned for about an hour, and then we goofed around playing Sega video games.

"Ding, dong!" the doorbell sounded interrupting my thoughts. Stacie and Deb still weren’t out of their rooms so I would have to entertain 5 guys. This was going to be a challenge. I had already risen from the bench and was walking towards the door when the doorbell began to ring again, this time repeatedly and fast. I smiled as I heard Kevin scold, "Nick! Stop acting like you’re 8! Grow up!"

I opened the door to find all five guys waiting. Howie thrust out his hand saying, "Hi, I’m Howie." I shook his hand giving him a confused look. "I didn’t like the way we had to meet last night, so I’m starting over. Is that OK with you?"

"Sure," I said, "I’d like that." I opened the door wider. "Come on in. Stacie and Deb still aren’t ready." They all stepped inside and I closed the door behind them.

"Please sit down," I said gesturing toward the couch and chairs. "I’ll be right back. I’m just gonna go check on them." I turned to leave the room, stepping on something in the process.

"BOO YA!" I heard. Startled, I took my foot off of what I had stepped on. It was one of the controllers to the Sega system. It had been on pause, but with the TV shut off, this whole time! The guys were all looking around, startled by the strange man’s voice.

"Sorry," I apologized, "we must have left this on before." I walked over by the TV, and bent down to shut off the Sega.

"What was that?" Nick asked curiously.

"One of our video games," I said blushing a little at the fact that we were almost years old and still played video games.

"Cool! You play video games?" Nick asked eagerly.

"Yeah."
"Can I play?" he whined.

"Sure," I said smiling. Kevin was right. Nick was like and 8 year old trapped in a grown-up’s body.

"Alright, I’m challenging you. Pick any game," he said to me.

I chose our (Stacie, Deb, and mine) favorite game, "Streets of Rage," and by the time Nick and I had finished we had all of the other guys in hysterics. We were laughing pretty hard ourselves. "Hey, you’re pretty good," Nick complemented me.

I laughed. "Next time challenge Stacie. She’s much better than me. Speaking of Stacie," I said getting to my feet, "I’d better go check on her and Deb. They should have been ready by…….."

Nick, AJ, and Brian all had their eyes fastened on something behind me. I turned to find Stacie and Deb standing in the doorway to the living room. "It took you guys long enough!" I scolded. "You’re almost minutes late!" Then I stopped abruptly, noticing what they were wearing. Now I knew how they had gotten the guys’ full attention.

Deb was wearing black flares, tie black shoes with 2-inch heels, and a BE sleeve, striped V-neck shirt. Using Deb’s quote, "This shirt’s V-neck is down to your belly button!" In other words, VERY low cut.

Stacie was wearing tight black flares, with her silver platform sandals and a purple tube top. "Oh G-d!" I thought. It appeared as though I was the only one who dressed in a sane manner. Then again a lot of my clothes were from the kids’ department or they were guys clothing. I was wearing baggy khakis, and BE sleeve white shirt with another BE sleeve blue, button down shirt over it, and white sneakers. I sighed and shook my head. Brian, AJ, and Nick were still staring with their mouths open. "Hi guys!" Deb said. She got no response.

Kevin patted my shoulder. "Don’t feel bad," he said sympathetically. "Look what Howie and I have to dead with." I surveyed the other three guys. AJ had on red plastic pants with black shoes and a black wife beater. Although the pants were weird they did look good on him. Then again AJ always looked good in general. "Stop that!" I scolded myself. "You’ll probably never see them again after tonight!"

I continued my observations. Brian was wearing what I later began to call his "cowboy suit," and Nick’s outfit was made of totally mismatched, very bright colors. All together they looked comical. I began laughing and Kevin and Howie joined in.

The three other guys, Deb, and Stacie, all looked at us, confused. They hadn’t heard Kevin’s remark. "What?" they all said in unison. That just made the three of us laugh even harder.
