Chapter 28

~ August 17~ One day before concert~

I wrinkled my nose as the rays of sunlight played across my face. Without opening my eyes, I yawned and stretched. My feet hit something, however, before I had stretched out completely. Opening my eyes, I saw Brian on the floor at my feet. They never left last night! Looking around the room, I experienced a sense of deja vu. Stacie and Nick were asleep on the couch, Kev and Howie were sleeping in chairs, Deb and Brian were asleep on the floor, and I...I was leaning on AJ again!

"Well, good morning Sunshine," AJ whispered suddenly in my ear.

Quickly, I jumped to my feet, letting out a gasp.

"When did you wake up?" I asked.

"About a ½ an hour ago. I was just watching everyone sleep." There was a long silence.

"Umm..You want coffee or soemthing?" I offered for lack of anything to say. He was making me uncomfortable again. I'd never seen that expression in his eyes before and I didn't' know how to read it.

"Hmm..?" he asked snapping out of his daze.

"Coffee. You want some?"

"Sure," he said rising to his feet and following me to the kitchen. I turned on the coffee maker and went in search of a clean mug. I  found  one, but of course, it was up high. Standing on my tip toes, I barely  reached  the handle. Bringing the mug down to the counter, AJ put his hand over mine.

I looked up at him, a questioning expression on my face. Wrong choice! Suddenly I felt AJ's lips on mine, his hands on my hips. Confused and scared, I broke away.

"AJ, no," my voice came out a whisper. "You just broke up with my best friend 2 days ago! I know you both say you're fine with it, but how can I be sure? This just isn't right." With that, I fled the kitchen going towards my room, only to run straight into Brian.

"What's wrong Lis?" he asked embracing me.

Composing myself, I said, "Hi Brian. Nothing's wrong. I was just going to get changed. Is anyone else up yet?"

"No, no one else is up yet. And I know something's wrong. Don't think you can hide it from me," Brian said.

"Nothing's wrong," I repeated before walking into the bathroom and shutting the door. I sank to the door. I sank to the floor, head in hands. After sitting motionless for a minute, I stood up, took a deep breath, and opened the door. I went to my room, got a change of clothes and returned to the bathroom to take a shower before anyone else got to it.

20 Minutes Later

When I returned to my room thoroughly awake and calm, I glanced at the clock. It was 1 PM! I ran frantically down the hallway. Brian and AJ were drinking coffee in the kitchen and everyone else was still asleep.

"Wake up! Wake up!" I yelled. Kevin's eyes immediately snapped open. "We have practice in an hour! Let's go!" That got everyone moving. Brian and AJ threw their mugs into the sink, and flew out the door followed by Kevin, Howie, and Nick. Stacie and Deb ran down the hall to get ready.

40 minutes later we were on our way out the door. We got there just in time with the guys right behind us.

During Practice

We all practiced together today so the guys and I got to sit and watch Stacie and Deb perform. With the exceptions of Brian and I, they blew everyone away.

"Bri?" I whispered. "What happens if they do well tomorrow? What's the deal after the trial performance?"

"If they're received well they will continue to be our opening act for the rest of the American tour. After that hopefully they'll get a record deal."

"I can't believe they're finally going to achieve what they've always wanted," I whispered more to myself than anyone else.

The rest of the day I was in a daze realizing that tomorrow would be the most exciting day of our lives: Stacie and Deb were making their debut as singers and I as going to play in a professional band! I couldn't wait until tomorrow.
