Chapter 4
"WELL? WHAT DID YOU SAY TO HER?" Nick now stared wide-eyed at A.J. who had just rejoined the group at the shore. "WELL?"
"I invited her over to our place. She's gonna come over and hang out with us for a while." A.J. rolled his eyes at his four friends who stood around him.
Brian sighed, seeing A.J.'s non-chill ant attitude. "Listen J," Brian now put one arm around A.J. " I seem to remember… 'Uhh…sorry…'…" Brian said. He had deepened his voice to imitate A.J.'s. Kevin and Howie laughed at his imitation, and Nick fell to the sand, holding his stomach.
" I did not sound like that." A.J. defended.
Nick fell backward to lay flat in the sand. He raised his hands to his head and brushed back the blond strands that fell in his face. "That girl is FINE!" He sighed and closed his eyes. Howie nodded in agreement, "Did you guys see her eyes? They're greener than yours Kev!"
"Sorry Howie," A.J. broke in, obviously over his previous embarrassment. " But I wasn't looking at her eyes…" He grinned devilishly. Kevin smacked the back of his head, jokingly.
"HEY!" A.J. sounded hurt. " I know all of you guys think the same way I do," he paused. " I just choose to state my opinion." He folded his arms and tilted his head toward Brian who had not said anything. "What's wrong Rok?"
Brian shook his head. "Nothin'…I was just thinking."
"…'Bout what Frick?" Nick propped himself up on his elbows.
Brian eyed his friend on the ground and gave him a conniving glance. "Well…if you must know--" Nick stopped him.
"Ya know what? That's ok, I don't want to know anymore." He laughed. Brian smiled into the air, distracted.
"Hey Bri," Kevin smiled at his cousin, who now looked over at him, questioning. "…Did you see the looks she was giving you?"
Nick removed his hands from his eyes, a little jealous of Brian, but quickly laughed it off. "Yeah Frick, she was totally checking you out man!" He eyed Brian up and down, making a purring noise.
At that, Brian pretended to faint, collapsing into the sand below him. He thought about her once again, and smiled to himself.
"Well, she is coming over tonight, and I invited her." A.J. stated proudly as he took a seat in the sand next to the collapsed Brian; who now spoke, without opening his closed eyes.
"We know," Brian said matter-of-factly. "You're point being…?"
Kevin and Howie laughed as they joined the other three on the ground.
"Very funny…" A.J. also drifted back to his earlier 'put aside' thoughts.
Howie broke the silence that had fallen upon the group, "Hey, didn't we come
down here to swim?" He shot a glance towards A.J. who immediately raced him
into the surf. Nick, Kevin, and Brian followed behind them.
