Chapter 8
Sierra walked down the stairs and into the living room. All five guys were now fully-dry and sitting in a circle on the floor, surrounding a monopoly board that they were attempting to set up. Brian was laughing about something, but stopped when he saw her come in. The rest of the guys turned around to see Sierra. Brian's T-shirt was far to big for her, and it hung down covering the shorts.
"Do ya like the look?" She spun around, pretending to show off the old addias shirt she wore.
"You look great!" Nick smiled at her then returned to counting out the fake money he was playing with. Kevin looked up from where he was sitting and gave her a warm smile. He wouldn't say anything, though. He was the only one out of the five that had been able to keep a steady girl friend over the European tour; and he was not about to cheat on her.
"Come sit over here, Gorgeous." A.J. smiled at her flirtatiously and patted the floor to his left and to Brian's right. Sierra blushed at his comment and walked over to where they sat. She stepped over Howie, who was lying on his stomach, organizing the property cards, and sat down beside A.J. She felt uneasy sitting next to Brian. She could tell he was staring at her; he had been since she walked in the room. And she couldn't figure out why.
Meanwhile:
Brian watched as Sierra talked to Kevin about something. She was so beautiful
sitting there in his clothes. But it wasn't just that. He did think
that a girl wearing his clothes was a major turn-on, but there was something
more about her. SHE was beautiful. Yet, she didn't seem to realize
that she was. Most other girls that he considered attractive ended up being
conceded and rude; Sierra didn't act the way they did. And those girls could
not compare to her.
"Are we playing on teams?" Sierra asked, not really directing her question
to anyone.
"HELL Yeah!" A.J. emphasized the curse. "We're going to have us some
'hard-core' competition!"
"Friendly, A.J
." Nick reminded him. "Friendly competition!
We don't want any fights like last time." He said with a weird smirk on his
face. A.J. laughed, remembering when Nick and himself had almost gotten into
a fistfight over who would get to be the banker.
"That was like two years ago, Nick. I've matured since then." A.J. stated
proudly.
"I doubt that!" Brian came out of his trance and joined in on the conversation.
"Actually, I think that you've both gotten worse!"
"I resent that Rok!" A.J. sounded a little mad.
"I take it back!" Brian laughed, holding up his hands in protest. " I didn't
mean any harm guys!"
Nick was giving a whole new meaning to the words 'if looks could kill' when
they both broke out into laughter.
"Ok
" Nick said between laughs. "Who's going first?"
"How about we pick teams. Then each team combines the members ages," Kevin
stated. "Then we go, oldest team to youngest."
" OR, we could just roll the dice, Kev." Brian laughed.
"Hey, wait a sec
"A.J. sounded curious about something. "Sierra, how
old are you?!"
Sierra laughed. They had spent the entire day together and know one had asked
her that question up until now. "I'm 18." She said, taking a deep breath
to stop laughing.
"EIGHTEEN?!" The guys sounded like surround sound.
"What's so wrong with being eighteen?" She sounded a little hurt by their
surprised reaction.
"Nothing
nothing at all!" Howie soothed her. "You just look a lot older,
that's all." He laughed when he saw that she did not change her face from
the sad expression.
"
Oh so now I look old?!" She pouted. "I feel so loved guys. Thanks."
She was amazed at how their conversations went on as if they had been friends
for years.
"
In a GOOD way." A.J. added with a grin. "
Defiantly a GOOD WAY!"
He laughed when she looked up from where she had buried her head in her arms.
"We're not saying that you look forty girl! Calm down!" He smiled
again. "Let's just say that you could pass for being 21 easily." He grinned
at her.
Brian leaned closer to Sierra and put his arm around her shoulders. "Don't
be upset, sweetie." He sounded a little concerned, but was happy when he
lifted up her chin and saw her smiling. God, her eyes are incredible!
He thought to himself. I could sit here and watch her all day. But
his thoughts were interrupted by Nick's voice.
"I'm glad that I'm not the youngest, for once!" He yelled triumphantly. "You've
made my day, Sierra!"
"Umm
you're welcome
I think?" She said, smiling, but a little confused
at the same time. They all began laughing again.
"Ok
Ok! Listen, We're going to have three groups of two." Brian spoke
as if he had been planning everything. "Nick and A.J. on one team, cause
they do better with each other than against." The guys all
laughed, remembering the last time they had played the game. "Howie and Kev,
You're team two," he continued. "And me and Sierra are on the last team."
Thunder crashed in the background, but this one was much larger than the
ones that had serenaded them throughout the night. Brian still had his arm
around Sierra's shoulders and he felt her body shiver. He pulled her closer
to him with ease at the thought that she was cold. No one else noticed the
two, who were now sitting very close. Nick was arguing with Howie about wanting
to be the shoe; and Kevin was scolding A.J. who was trying to sneak some
extra cash from the bank.
Sierra loved to be held by Brian, yet for some reason the days' events were
beginning to overwhelm her. She pulled away from his arms and stood up. Brian
stared up at her, confused that she had backed away from him. She didn't
know exactly why she did it either, but it was too late now.
"Umm
I am going to head back over now." The rest of the guys looked
up at her and they could all hear that her voice was beginning to quiver.
She rushed to the door before anyone could stop her.
"WAIT
Sierra, I'm sorry
I-." Brian called after her, jumping to
his feet. Kevin cut him off.
"Sierra, you can't go now, the storm's worse than it was before!" Her opening
the door to leave stopped his plea. Kevin was right, the storm was
worse, but she couldn't stay; she had to get home.
"Look
" She yelled over the storm outside the door. "I just have to
go, okay?" She shut the door, and was running to her house before they could
stop her. Brian ran from his spot to go after her, but Howie grabbed his
shoulder, forcing him to stop. "Just let her go, Bri." He could see the worry
in Brian's eyes and could tell that he was not listening.
Kevin continued where Howie left off.
`"I don't think that going after her right now is the best idea. Just give
her some time, we can go over and see her tomorrow."
A.J. and Nick now stood at the windows, and watched her enter the Beach house
next to them.
"She got in okay." Nick mumbled as he sat back down with the others.
"What did you do, ROK?" A.J. almost yelled at his friend, who was now pounding
his head against the couch next to him. He didn't want Sierra to leave and
he was determined to find out what Brian had done to her.
" Yeah Frick, what did you say to her?!" Nick sounded half angry with Brian,
and half curious.
Brian looked up from where he had buried his head.
"I don't know!" His eyes were dazed as he tried to figure out the
answer. "I really don't know," He sounded more like he was trying to convince
himself than the others. "I thought she liked me
I just have to go talk
to her-."
"Sit down Brian." Kevin's voice was reassuring and he continued. "She
does like you, believe me, she does. Maybe she was just a little
confused."
"I hate to say it Rok, but I'd have to agree with Kev." A.J. folded his arms
across his chest. "She's defiantly into you
Dude, she was staring at
you all night." He laughed, but was extremely jealous that she
did like Brian and not him. Sierra was gorgeous; and he had not planned
for her to fall for his friend. He wanted to be with her.
Really badly.
"I just can't deal with this right now." Brian stood up and walked to the
stairs. "I'm going to bed." He was so confused. He didn't want to talk to
them right now; they didn't understand. He just wanted to be alone, and try
to think. Why did she leave? What did I do wrong? She's so beautiful.
Shit! I'm such a dumb ass. What did I do? Please just tell me what I did
wrong!
Her words kept running through his head like a broken record. I just have
to go, okay? okay?
okay?
okay?
okay?
