Chapter 10

Next day

"I'm going to go talk to Brian." Nick stood up from where he had been sitting at the kitchen counter, leaving behind an empty bowl of cereal. "He's been in his room all morning."

"He did seem really upset last night. Just try to get him to come downstairs." Kevin patted Nick's back and sat down at the counter with Howie and A.J. Nick walked out of the room to find Brian. And the rest of the guys went on with their conversation.

" A.J., can't you eat like a normal person?" Howie stared at A.J., who was inhaling his breakfast.

" Huh?"

"Never-mind." Kevin and Howie laughed in unison.

Nick came running downstairs, nearly tripping over the furniture that happened to stand in his way. "Okay, where is he?"

"Where's who?" A.J. looked up from his bowl.

"Where's Brian? He's not in his room." Nick's voice was serious, and it made the rest of the guys stare at him, wide-eyed.

"You mean he's not in his room, Nick?" Howie watched Nick's face for an answer. He played so many jokes on the rest of them, so Howie was waiting for Brian to jump out from somewhere and scare the shit out of them. "You're kidding, right?

"Didn't you hear me?!" Nick was getting mad at them now; they weren't taking him seriously. "He's not there. I checked all the rooms. He's not there."

"What do you mean, 'he's not there'? Where else could he be? We're on a damn beach, miles from anything, he can't exactly get up and go to the nearest bar." A.J. continued to crunch his cereal, and didn't seem to be to concerned about his friend. Nick was becoming very upset, and Kevin could tell.

"Listen, just calm down." Kevin said it half to the rest of the guys, but mostly to himself. He couldn't believe that Brian would leave without telling the rest of them. "Let's check outside before we jump to any conclusions, okay? He might just be on the beach." He took a deep breath, trying to reassure himself.

Nick, Howie and Kev quickly went outside, and behind them, A.J. reluctantly followed.

"You guys, come on! Listen," A.J. whined, " Brian's a big boy; he'll come back sooner or later. What? Do you guys think someone kidnapped him or something?" He laughed at the thought but then became quiet when no one answered him.

"That's what you think, isn't it?" He questioned the other three. Hoping they would tell him no; he was beginning to worry himself.

"He's not here! Damn-it." Nick yelled to himself, not answering A.J.'s question.

"What the hell?!" Kevin paused, trying not to flip out at Nick. "You're positive that he wasn't anywhere upstairs?"

" I searched the whole freaking house Kev, he's not there."

"Okay. Okay." Howie tried his best to calm them down. "Let's just think…where else could he be?"

" HEY!" A.J. shouted from behind the other three. They had been ignoring him, but now he had an idea. Nick, Kevin and Howie turned around to see A.J. pointing over their shoulders. "MAYBE Brian just woke up early and went over to talk to Sierra." He stated proudly.

"That almost makes sense." Kevin began to relax at the thought that A.J. was probably right. Why hadn't he thought of that?

"Gee-thanks, Kev." A.J. sounded a little upset at Kevin's comment. "I think I deserve an apology." He glared at Kevin.

"We don't even know if he's there yet A.J." Nick was still upset, and he took it out on A.J.

"He's gotta be there, Nick. Gosh, what's your problem this morning? You're so damn cranky."

Nick took a step towards A.J., but was stopped by Kevin and Howie.

"STOP. Right now. STOP." Kevin stood between the two. "We don't have time for this right now. Let's go find out if Brian's over there, then you two can take it out on him, okay?"

"Yes daddy." Nick mumbled only loud enough for A.J. to hear.

"Ha! Good going Nick. But you're going to get your ass beat!" A.J. whispered back.

"I know! Shhhh!" Nick laughed back at A.J., who gave him a high-five.

"What are you two talking about?" Kevin turned around to face the now laughing A.J. and Nick. "You sure stay mad long." Kev said then heard them chuckle something to each other again when he turned back around. But he let them go for now, he was too mad at Brian; wherever he was.
