Chapter 23

(6 months later)

Sierra tightened her grip on the phone, raised it to her ear. “Hello?”

She sat up against the headboard of her bed.

“You’re kidding right?” She listened. “No, I’m not going. No way. Forget it….I….. I just can’t, I’m sorry.” She hung up and sighed.

It had been months since she had seen Brian. She recovered in the hospital with him by her side, but Sierra didn’t want him to go through her problems. The look on his face when she told him goodbye still haunted her. She had left without much notice, thought it would be less painful that way. He begged her to come on tour with them, begged her to stay, but she didn’t.

Sierra walked to the balcony of her room, and looked out at the ocean. She sighed. If she had stopped to turn around while she was leaving six months ago, she would have run back into his arms. Sierra shook her head. All of this was over, she was never going to see him again, so why does he keep crossing her mind?

Curling up on one of the outside chairs, she remembered the conversation on the phone. The Backstreet Boys were coming to San ranSisco. For a moment on the phone, Taylor had convinced her to go to the concert. For that moment she pictured her life with Brian. The thought was quickly erased. She remembered his charm, his looks, his love. He probably had a model girlfriend by now, and forgot all about her. It was her own fault. But what if he hadn’t forgot about her?

Sierra pulled her robe tighter around her shoulders. What if he came looking for her? She couldn’t face him. That was when Sierra began packing. She sighed once again as she thought over her decision. If the Backstreet Boys were going to be in town for three days, then she would spend three days in a hotel. Somewhere she could avoid him, at all costs. That night sleep came to her along with dreams of what a mistake she had made six months ago.
