Prologue
“Brooke, you’re going to be late!”
“I’m coming!” I hollered back to my mom. I took one last look around my room, making sure I hadn’t forgotten anything. I was going to spend the summer in Orlando, Florida, with my uncle, aunt, and their kids, and if I forgot anything, I would have to buy another one of whatever it was, because it would be hard for my mom to get it to me from Potomac, Maryland.
“Brooke! Get your butt down here right now! We are going to be late, and you are going to miss the plane! You won’t like spending the summer here, I’m sure! Get down here NOW!”
“Ok, ok. Chill!” I responded, hoping my dad wouldn’t yell at me. He was already mad at me, because I had been seeing this guy without telling him, and my father is very… overprotective.
I grabbed the last of my bags, and headed downstairs.
Later, at the airport…
“Flight 168A, United Airlines to Orlando, now boarding at Gate C1.”
“That’s my flight! Bye!” I gave both of my parents a hug and a kiss on the cheek.
I gave my ticket to the stewardess, and gave one last wave before I boarded the plane. My parents waved goodbye.
Good bye, boring old Maryland! Hello, sunny Florida!
