Chapter 3

In the car, I was sitting in front with Scott, who was driving, and Nick was in the backseat, leaning in the middle of the two bucket seats in front. I turned on the radio, and switched around for a little while. I couldn’t figure out which station was which, so I tried Scott’s preset stations.

“Try the first one,” Scott said, glancing at me switching the stations.

“K,” I answered, pushing the first button.

“And you’re listening to K100, the first place for new music in Orlando! And right now, this is Jennifer Lopez, with her newest, ‘If You Had My Love,’ right here on K100!”

I leaned back and hummed along.

“Oh, COME ON! How ‘bout some real music,” Nick complained.

“Well, what do you call ‘REAL MUSIC’?”

“Try 101.9,” Nick replied.

“Fine,” I said, changing the station. Kid Rock’s “Cowboy” blasted through Scott’s speakers.

“Cowboy, baby… Ridin’ at night ‘cuz I sleep all day…”

“This isn’t really my type of music, but it’s livable for the rest of the five-minute ride, I guess,” I said. Nick just hummed along with the song in response. I rolled my eyes.
