Chapter 1

Brian : You know what? I think our friendship will last longer than boy-girl relationship.

Summer : So, you mean you want to break up?

Brian : We didn't even start.

Summer : Is there a third-party? Who is she?

Brian : No. Do you understand? There's nothing between us.

The furious Summer took off her shoe, intending to throw it over to the guy sitting opposite her.

Brian retorted and said to Alice who raised her hand, ready to slap Brian, "Fine. I'll go swimming." He stood up from his seat and ran towards the beach.

"Fine. Bye, George," said Summer as she put on her shoe again and left the restaurant.

"Summer, are you all right?"

"I'm fine, Daisy."

The two walked to their lecture room.

"Summer, I'm really sorry. The shares that I encouraged you to buy flunked."

"Yeah. Well, I'm broke now."

"I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to…I'm useless." Daisy seemed contrite.

"Are you my best friend?"

"Of course."

"So, stop blaming yourself."

As they made a turn into the corridor, a guy stopped them.

"Are you Summer?"

"Yes, I am."

"The President wants to see you in his office."

"Okay, thanks."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summer walked nonchalantly into the office.

"Have a seat."

"Thanks."

"I assume this is only your first year in our college."

"Yes."

"Well, I heard from your boyfriend that you lost all your money."

"Yes."

"That means you lost your tuition fees as well. Your parents called me. They said I could do anything I want. Don't you know it's against the rules for a student in our college to invest in stocks and shares?"

"I know. But…"

"No explanation. The fact is you broke the promise between you and your parents and me. You lost and off you go."

"This must be George's work. Busybody!" she murmured.

"Summer, you're expelled."

"Fine."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

One year ago, Summer was challenged by her parents. She was a spoilt and stubborn child, totally the opposite of a spendthrift. Her parents wanted to fine a way to change their daughter. To prove that she wasn't dependant, she accepted the challenge where she was given an amount of money just enough for studies and living. Then, she was sent away from home to further her studies in New York. Now, she lost both the game and the money.

"George, don't let me see you. Or else, I would rip you off into pieces," Summer cursed. She truly knew it was George who told her parents.

"Are you okay?" asked Daisy.

"I would do it tomorrow."

"Don't scare me."

"I am just venting."

"But I'm still worried."

"Leos are tough people. I'll be fine. You must help me to find out who is George's new girl."

"I will."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sitting in the dark, the usually flamboyant Summer seemed so sombre now. She couldn't foresee what she had to do. After fidgeting in her sear for about half an hour, she went to her study room and opened her laptop. A mail caught her eyes. Promptly, she opened and read it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hello."

"Hello."

"Daisy, it's me, Summer."

"Yes?"

"The beach. Do you remember?"

"What beach?"

"Last year, my cousin in Malaysia was having financial problems and asked me for help. Well, he was kind of pity. So, I chipped out some money. You know, the money I gained from investment. So, he was kind of like sold half of his beach to me."

"So, what do you intend to do with it?"

"I don't know whether it's true my good deed is been rewarded. A property corporation is interested in buying my beach. I bet that you're happy for me. There's always a silver lining in the cloud."

"Yeah. I'm happy for you. So, you're going over to Malaysia?"

"Of course. I will have money to continue my studies, Daisy!"
