Chapter 3
Nick
I've got a strange feeling about V. Like she's hiding something from us. Well we've only known her 10 minutes, but it's like she's not who she says she is or something. What am I saying? How could I jump to conclusions and I don't even know her that well?
All the sudden V's purse started ringing. I looked at Kevin to see if I should answer it. I was the closest so I opened her purse and took out her cell phone.
"Hello?" I was kinda nervous about answering her phone.
"Who's this?"
"I'm Nick. Who's this?"
"Is this Maranda's phone?"
"No it's not you have the wrong cell phone sorry." I hung up the cell phone and put it back in V's purse.
"What are you doing?" V scared me as she walked back up to the table.
"Your cell phone rang so I answered it."
"Oh, who was it?"
"I don't know. Wrong number. He wanted a Maranda."
Veronica became wide eyed. "A Maranda?" She tried to hide her shock but I saw it before she could. She grabbed her purse. "I'm going to go to the little girls room real quick." She walked off.
After she was out of sight I decided to investigate my curiosity. "I'll be back guys." I walked towards the bathroom.
"I know what I'm doing. It will work out fine. OK bye." I heard what sounded like a phone conversation on the other side of the girl's bathroom door.
I walked towards the boy's bathroom just as Veronica came out. "Hey, Nick." She smiled. I wonder what's she's up to.
"Hey." I stopped and faced her. "You hungry?"
"Starved, I was going to ask you the same thing. You wanna get the guys and get something to eat?" If I spend more time with her I can figure this out what am I trying to figure out?
"Yeah. I need to use the rest room first I'll be back in a second. Ask the guys where they want to eat." I'll figure out what's going out sooner or later hopefully it's sooner.
Maranda as Veronica
"I can't believe this!" I thought to myself as I walked back to the guys. I've just been told to move to 'Phase 2'! No one goes to phase 2! It's just not logical!
I know you're all probably wondering What on Earth is 'Phase 2'? Well, it's when I'm to become "friends" with my subject! Do you know how much harder this makes my job? Much harder! I have to monitor my cell phone so that A) Nick doesn't answer it anymore and B) so that my boss calls me Veronica from now on. Ugh, here we go.
"Hey guys Nick and I are kinda hungry you wanna find an all night pizza place?" I sat down at the table.
"Sure!" The guys all agreed.
"So what are we having?" Nick walked up.
"Pizza well, if we can find one open." I laughed. "How many of you guys have a car?" I knew the answer, but I had to ask.
"One very crammed car!" Nick whined.
"Oh, it's not that bad!" Kevin shook his head.
"It is when you're in the middle with no leg room!"
I laughed at their childish fight. "I can take someone. It's kinda messy in my car so I can only fit some one in my front seat."
"I'll go. That is if you don't mind." Brian smiled.
"Of course I wouldn't mind." I looked over at Nick. "Can I ask you a question?"
"Who me?" Nick pointed to himself.
"Yeah. How old are you?"
"Ohhhh busted!" Aj laughed.
"I'm 20."
I shook my head. "Don't tell people that. I would have believed you were 22 or 23."
"Really?" Nick smiled.
"Not really, but I'm sure everyone else would have." I laughed.
He shook his head. "That was harsh."
"Sorry, I couldn't resist. I promise no more jokes." I held my hand out for him to shake.
He pushed it away. "It was good. No harm done."
"You sure?"
"Yeah. I get it pretty bad from these guys so don't worry about it."
"Well, don't let me cross the line." I turned to Brian who was smiling that trade mark smile. This whole 'friends' thing might not be so bad after all. "There's a shop about I mile away on 53rd and 12th. It's right on the corner called Papa's Pizza Joint. Their pizza is DA* bomb!"
"Shall we?" Brian held out his arm and I liked onto it.
"We shall." I smiled and waited at the guys. "See ya there."
At Papa's Pizza Joint
"Oh man. You've got to be kidding me?" I guess sound would help in Brian's house. He's been telling me all the really stupid stuff the guys say when they hang out.
"No, I'm totally serious!" Brian and me have been waiting for the guys for a good 20 minutes now.
"Where could those guys be? I knew we should have waited for them." Great I got the hottest boy band members lost in Louisiana! I'm sure the boss is gonna LOVE this.
"Hey guys. Sorry we're late, but Nick insisted on going to Blockbuster to rent a movie and we were mobbed by a bunch of teenagers." Kevin glared at Nick and sat down. Only they were one person more.
"Hi." She glared at Kevin. "I'm Kevin's girlfriend, which he so rudely forgot to introduce. My name is Mandy, well it's Amanda, but no one calls me that." She laughed.
"Hi. I'm Veronica, but call me V." I shook her hand. "Nice to meet you."
She was tall, about as tall as Kevin was. Long legs, skinny, tanned skin, died blonde hair, green eyes and thin wired glasses.
The guys sat down and Kevin ordered for us all.
"So tell us more about you." Aj started the conversation this time.
"Like what?" I sipped a coke that was brought to the table.
"Well, tell us what your friends are like?"
I put my glass down. "I don't have friends." I smiled.
"What? How could you not have friends?" Brian turned in his seat to face me more.
"Well, I don't socialize much. I'm not what you'd call a people person."
"You could have fooled us." Howie laughed.
"I fool a lot of people about a lot of things."
The waitress brought our pizzas.
"Tell us about your family then." Brian passed me a slice of pizza.
"Well, there's not really much to tell. My parents were high school sweet hearts. They dated for about 2 years after they graduated and got married." I shrugged. Not to shabby for being on the spot.
"That's pretty cool." Howie nodded.
"Yep." I smiled.
"It's a regular love story huh?" Nick gave me a smug look.
"I guess. If you say so." I shrugged.
"Are you staying near by?" Nick question.
"I guess you could say that." I can play your little hot and cold game too, Nick.
"Do you like it here?" Brian smiled interupting Nick and my little stare down.
"Yes and no. It's not home, but it's nice."
"I know what you mean about not being home. It's a real drag when you have to be on the bus or in a hotel room instead of your own bed." Kevin smiled.
