Chapter 20

Maranda as Veronica

I stopped in front of Nick’s house with Brian just before 10.

“What do you think they’ll have to say?”

“Plenty I’m sure,” Brian smiled. “Are you sure you can’t come in for a few minutes? We could toy with them some more.”

I smiled. A very tempting offer. I glanced down at the clock on my car. 10:01. “OK, but only for a few minutes. I have to get home for an important phone call.”

Brain smiled and told me to stay put. Confused, I watched him walk around the front of the car and open my door. I shook my head as I climbed out.

“Aren’t we the gentleman this morning?”

“I try.” He extended his arm as he shut the car door. “Hey guys. Where is everyone?” Brian called, leading me by the hand through the house. Brian tossed his set of keys into a small basket on table near the door.

“Well, well, well, sounds like Brian decided to come home.” We heard Nick from the living room.

Brian held a finger to my lips and mouthed for me to be quite so we could surprise them. He kissed my hand then dropped it and headed for the living room.

I took a few steps forward and listened to the conversation.

“Ten o’clock? Man Bri.” I knew Aj would be one of the firsts to take it out of proportion.

“Now it’s not like that,” Brian said. I could just picture the very large smile that told the guys other wise.

“Sure Brian, we believe you.” Howie laughed.

I shook my head.

“You know cus you could have called and said you were staying the night.” Kevin, always the big brother, couldn’t hide he tease in his tone.

“She said he’d be out late. I guess we should have known it would be later today,” Nick was going to eat those words.

My smile broadened. I decided to make my entrance now, but I took to deep breaths to hide my smile.

“Hello boys.” I walked in with my hands clasped behind my back. I looked as if I hadn’t heard a word they said.

“Hey, we didn’t know you were here.” Nick gave nervous glances to the other guys.

“Oh, I was in the car. My cell rang.” I lied, but this time Brian was in on it.

“Oh,” A look of relief crossed 4 faces.

I nearly laughed at that. Brian must have noticed because he pulled me onto his lap and kissed me. I was started but soon felt my arms wrap around his neck. When we broke from the kiss I smiled and whispered to him.

“Thanks.”

“Any time, babe.” He smiled.

“Well I was a little skeptical that you guys would actually go through with it, but I guess I was wrong.” I turned in Brian’s lap to see Howie shaking his head.

I smiled. “OK, OK.”

“Hun?” Brian questioned.

“No, I’ll tell them. Who knows it might be more fun than this.”

Brian pulled my back against his chest and rested his head on my shoulder.

“Tell us what?” Kevin sipped his coffee.

I shook my head. “This is feeling like a big announcement. I just wanted to say that I heard you guys.”

“You heard us?” Kevin choked out.

I nodded. “Every word.”

They all looked at each other and turned a light shade of red.

“You know, I’ve never felt sympathy for anyone, but I think I have now.” I laughed.

They recovered with that. “Ha Ha.” Aj went back to his magazine.

“You guys must think me a slut.” I rested my head back on Brian’s shoulder.

I was far too comfortable with this, but I couldn’t bring myself to get up.

They all looked at me with shock and confusion. “Why would you say that?”

“This is only or second date and you think I slept with him.” I shrugged. “I think any girl would think that.”

Nick looked almost pitiful. “Nick, It’s OK. I was teasing. I mean I’m sure you realize now that we didn’t sleep together.”

“I know I just feel bad, I mean I didn’t really trust you when I first met.” He looked down at his glass thoughtfully.

“Nick, it’s OK.” I smiled. “I provoked it.”

“You did?”

I shook my head. “I don’t normally let people off easy, I suggest you accept it…with out questions.”

“Understood.” He smiled, grateful.

I glanced down at my watch. “Well, as fun as tormenting you four is, I have an important phone call to receive and I have to get it in 20 minutes.” I, with surprising regret, stood up and turned for the door.

Brian took my hand and pulled it. I was bent over, inches from his face. “Call me tonight.”

“Promise.”

I found my self in another surprising situation.

I leaned down and kissed him. My free hand went to his cheek and my fingers found his hair. My tongue passed my lips, begging entrance. He allowed and soon my tongue was dancing with the velvet heat of his. I parted with a smile.

“Till tonight.” I gave another small, tender kiss and headed for the door.

Brian

I let out a long, very much-needed breath. That was her first in kissing me. And that was one VERY GOOD kiss.

“Man.” I leaned my head back on the armchair.

“How do you find all the ones who are incredibly hot and awesome kissers?” Aj grinned.

“I’m still questioning that myself.” I smiled.

“Looks like all that “holding back” did you good.” Howie laughed.

I arched an eyebrow. “If were up to you I wouldn’t know if she was a good kisser anyway.”

He just shook his head in protest. “What ever, you do what you want.” He flipped channels on the TV.

I turned to Nick, who although kept his mouth shut, was thinking of something.

“Speekith Nickith.” I laughed.

He looked and me strangely, but laughed too. “Nickith hasith nothing to spekith about.”

“Lieith.” I pointed to him, playfully, accusing.

He shook his head and the other guys gave us weird looks, then returned to what they were doing.

“OK man. I just felt bad about what I sort of did to Veronica. I sort of put that virus into my computer to see if she was who she said she was. At the time I didn’t think she noticed, but evidently she did.” Nick shook his head. “Maybe it was a ploy to see you.”

I felt the anger that was growing at Nick’s words lower. I took a deep breath to calm myself and the power of my words soon to come.

I stood and headed for the stairs. “Do that again and I’ll have something to say.” I started for my room.
