Chapter 22
"Nick." I called as I walked towards the noise on the patio.
"I thought you came here to see me." Brian appeared out of nowhere, or so it seemed to me, and wrapped his arms around my waist.
I muffled a yelp. "Brian," I breathed. "Don't ever do that again."
"I think we're even now don't you."
I laughed, "So this is pay back?"
"Not intentionally, but I guess it will do."
I shook my head. "You know for being on the look out for teenyboppers Nick sure does leave his door open a lot."
"Ah it's not my house." Brian shrugged, took my hand and led me out to the patio with everyone else.
"Hey Mandy." I waved and to my surprise she got up and hugged me.
"How are you? I must say I didn't know if I was going to see you again. I was sure Brian would, but I'm not around all that much."
"You're a dancer aren't you?"
"Yeah, but I don't do all the shows. I'm sort of a back ups back up dancer." She laughed.
I nodded and smiled. "I get it." I noticed a blonde standing by Nick by the pool, laughing flirtatiously at what ever Nick said. I leaned over and whispered to Brian. "Who's the girl with Nick?"
"That'd Nick's girl Lacy. He flew her here just for a barbecue. We're leaving tomorrow so it's not like she's staying real long."
"You know Bri, right now I love your schedule."
"Did you just say you love the schedule?" Aj appeared from behind us and laughed.
"Yes." I smiled. "Right now it's perfect. I have to leave tomorrow, too. I was kind of worried about it because I figured it would kill whatever good time I'll have here." And for once that was honesty.
"Well Brian you've meet the perfect fame girlfriend. She's the only one I know who even likes the biz." Kevin hugged Mandy close as he stood by the grill.
"I never said I liked the biz, I just said I didn't mind the schedule. It's working for me right now, when it changes then I'll probably hate it." I looked over at Nick, who was in his own little world and didn't even notice I was here.
I said hello to Howie and told everyone to be quite. I sunk up behind Nick and Lacy noticed, but after I put a finger to my lips she pretended to ignore me. I grabbed Nick by his waist and tossed him in the pool.
I turned to Lacy. "Hi I'm Brian's date Veronica and you must be Lacy, Nick's girlfriend. Nice to meet you." I shook her hand just as Nick came sputtering up.
"Oh Nick told me about you." She smiled and nodded. It was as if I didn't touch Nick. "You're from here, but you travel a lot."
"Yep that's me. Although you're going to have to watch his computer habits." I motioned for Lacy to follow me as Nick started to climb out of the pool. "He's into porn I think. I had to get rid of a tough bug for him."
"Really? I'll remember that."
"Veronica! What did you do that for?" I could tell Nick wasn't mad by the extremely large smile on his face.
I turned to him as if he just arrived. "Oh hi Nick. Swimming already? For shame, I had to introduce myself. Though we did have a nice conversation." I started to run when I saw he begin to take off. I stopped abruptly by the deep end of the pool and Nick came to a screeching halt. Before he knew what was happening I had him in the pool again.
I ran back over to Brian. "That was fun." I smiled.
"I'm glad." He tucked his arms around my waist from the back and I rested against his chest.
"You're gonna get it." Nick came up and walked over.
"If you get me wet you get all these guys wet." I laughed.
"I don't want to get wet yet Kayos!" Aj warned.
Nick ran his hands over his hair spiking it and spraying water at me. He smirked and walked away.
"Oh, no Nick. If you think I'm touching you when you're all wet you're crazy."
I laughed, "Sorry Nick, I didn't mean to cut in on your cuddling time."
"Haha. Why don't you get in the pool?"
"Sounds good to me."
Brian
I watched as Veronica walked over to the pool and peeled off her tee reveling a triangle blue bikini. She had a trim, tanned body. I decided that now would be a good a time as any for a swim.
"Woo…strip tease." Aj mocked.
"In your dreams Aj." Veronica shook her head as she tossed her shorts to the side and kicked off her sandals.
"How do you know what I dream about?" Aj laughed at Veronica. His comment caught her off guard and her, suppose to be, graceful dive was a big splash.
"I give that a 5," Howie laughed.
"Nauh that was an 8." Lacy laughed harder.
"Hey Nick you got a volleyball?" Veronica swam up to me and placed a kiss on my cheek. I smiled.
Maranda as Veronica
"Sure. Any body want to play?" Nick ran in side and came back out
with a pool volleyball net and volleyball.
"How about the dates verse and we'll rotate." Aj helped Nick put up the net.
"Howie will you watch the food?" Kevin peeled off his wife beater and jumped in the pool then helped Mandy in. Lacy and Nick were the last in.
Aj tossed the ball in the air and of course Kevin got it.
"OK, let's make it interesting." I smirked. "Losers have to feed the winners."
Lacy and Mandy cheered behind me.
"Deal." Kevin and me shook on it.
"Let's go." Kevin stood in back and served.
The game went on. Back and forth the score went. The guys were in the lead in the beginning, we lead the in the middle, but now were down by 3 and they were serving.
"Only 2 points to go girls." Nick mocked. "Better get ready."
"Nick the
longer you wait, the longer it takes to eat." Lacy stood in front ready
to spike.
"Sure babe." Nick threw the ball the air and Lacy, though very short
jumped up and spiked it into the water on their side of the net.
"Oh yeah!" We slapped hands as Howie and Aj whistled.
"Hey, whose side are you on?" Kevin laughed.
Howie and Aj looked at each other and then at the guys and then at us. "Them." They said in unison.
Everyone laughed at that.
Lacy moved to the back to serve. "I must warn you, being captain of my old volleyball time, I tend to…" She paused and severed the paused. "Wait till you're not ready. Trick of the trade."
The ball landed with a smack in the water, "Point for us!"
"That's cheating!" Nick protested.
"Not really Hun. It's perfectly legal…it's playing dirty, but it's legal." Lacy smirked.
She had a kid's face and a woman's body. I smiled; I remember when people said that about me. Then they started to call me the Ice Queen. I turned my attention back to the game when Lacy served. Kevin was up front so needless to say he spiked it my face.
"Kevin!"
"Sorry." He laughed.
"Yeah right!" I tossed the ball to Brian, who was in the back.
Brian served the ball and Lacy hit it, but it didn't go over so Mandy hit it and it still didn't go over. I swam over and, while facing the house, I hit the ball towards the net, praying it went over. When I turned around it did go over, way over. It was out and they got the point.
"Man!" I splashed the water and swam back to my spot.
"That's right man…I'm the man." Brian laughed as he retrieved the ball.
"Listen here "man", if you win I'll be feeding you so be better be careful."
"Ohhh." Everyone laughed as Brian jumped in.
"All right, last point of the game. Can he do it or will they be playing slave boy for the day?" Aj sounded like a sports announcer, which was really funny.
