Chapter 26
"How are you feeling, Honey?"
"I'm alright." Jen replied taking a break from cleaning to talk with her husband.
"How's our miracle?"
"Kicking up a storm." She laughed while touching her belly. "Are you still coming home today?"
"Yea, i'll be home in like an hour. We're just hitting Orlando right now."
"Okay, I'll talk to you when you get home then. I don't want the bill to be too high." Nick chuckled to himself.
"Alright." He made a little kissing noise into the reciever. "See you soon."
"Ok, bye."
Jen hung the phone back up and continued cleaning.

Jen hummed to herself as she cleaned the bathroom counter. Pausing for a second she touched her belly as if she was going into labor. Sitting down on the toilet bowl, she pulled her shirt up and her shorts down.
"<gasp>" She immedietly started to cry at the sight of specs of blood that had formed on her panties. She had the urge to pee, but when she did, blood was all she could see. 'Hurry home Nick!' She thought as she began crying harder.
Didn't matter if she had just cleaned the whole house, Jen slowly and gently helped her self to the floor and began sliding across it, landing in the hallway close to the stairs, where she lay still, not moving.
"Mom!" Jay screamed from the den. "Ma! I'm home from Basketball!" He threw his equipment close to the door and walked up the stairs to find his mother. "Mom!!!!" He screamed started to cry. "Mommy wake up, Mommy!"
"Honey i'm home!"
"DADDY!!" Jay screamed at the top of his lungs. Nick heard a panik in his son's voice and climed the stairs two at a time.
"Oh my god.
Jen! Baby, wake up. Shit Jay." He screamed. Jay knew that his father was
angry, beacuse he never used that kind of language around his kids. "Grab
the phone." He told him. Jay ran and got the cordless phone, then handed
it to his father, and watched as he nervously called an ambulance.

"Mr. Carter?" Nick's ears perked up as his name was called. Almost impatiently, he rushed to where the doctor, who was standing in scrubs, was standing.
"How is she? How's the baby?"
"Calm down." The doctor stated calmly. "Your wife as of right now is doing fine. She lost a lot of blood, mostly due to premiture labor and the shooting insident."
"But she's fine?" He asked slightly raising his eyebrows. The doctor nodded. "And the baby?"
"Well, we tried everything to stop the bleeding internally.." Nick looked at the doctor almost scared to hear what he was saying, "We had to deliver HER otherwise we could have lost your wife."
"Her?" Nick asked grabbing onto his hair in excitement. "Wow. How is she though?"
"She's having a little trouble breathing on her own. This happens in most premature births, including this one. She was almost a month and a half early, Mr. Carter. She should develope normally like any other child... She's small as of right now.. only weighing 5lbs 2oz." Nick looked at the doctor in amazment.
"Healthy?....That's all that matters." Was his answer as he looked at the doctor nodding his head.
"Would you like to see her?" Nick nodded and followed the doctor, listening to him the whole way, as he lectured him on everything.
They walked through the room where there were incubators scattered. Nick followed Dr. Harley until they stopped at an incubator in the far left corner of the room. He looked inside to see the most angelic looking thing, all pink.
"She's going to need to stay for a few weeks, just so we can keep an eye on her.. make sure nothing is wrong."
"Okay. Whatever is best for her is what's going to be." Nick replied. "How long will Jennifer be here for?"
"Normal birthing time. Two till three days. But, she'll need checkups every week."
"That's not a problem, sir." He answered. "Do you think I can see her?" He nodded and showed Nick the way to her room. The doctor walked away and Nick stood outside of the door, taking a deep breath before entering.
"Hey." Jen spoke grogily as if she hadn't talked for a while.
"Hey you." Nick grinned sitting on the edge of the bed and kissing her lips. "How do you feel?"
"Horrible." She started to cry.
"What's the matter?..Shhh." He asked playing with her hair.
"What happened to the baby? What happened to me?"
"You just went into labor early, Baby. The doctor told me because of the shooting. He said everything is fine and you'll be able to leave in a few days or so. And, Mrs. Carter. We have a new edition to the Carter Family."
"We do?" She asked overwelmed with joy.
"Yup. We have a baby girl. 5lbs. 2oz."
"She's so small!" She said, a bit taken back. "Oh Nick! I was so scared that they couldn't save her. I was! That's all I was worried about. I'd rather them had taken my life then hers."
"Jennifer, it wasn't that way, Hon. You're both here. Safe and healthy." He embraced her, holding her in his arms as she cried with happiness.
Pulling back a bit and looking into his eyes, "We need a name."
"We do!.." He thought for a second. "I think it should be something special. She's our miracle." Jen smiled at him, Nick smiling back. "She was sent to us from Heaven."
"Heavenly." Jen announced.
"Yea." Nick sighed.
"No!" She laughed. "Heaven Ly Carter."
"Heaven Ly Carter." He repeated. Nick shook his pointer finger at her. "Ya know, I like that. Heaven Ly Carter."
"Oh gosh Nick. We're parents again. Wait until Cayleigh finds out she has a baby sister. Jay'll be thrilled. Another sister." They both laughed and Nick leaned in to kiss Jen on the lips. "I wanna see her." She announced.
"Alright." Nick replied nodded. He went to get a wheel chair and helped her into it, then took his wife to see their new baby.
