Chapter 28

"Thanks Nikki."

"No problem." She assured. Jen smiled back.

"We'll be home around 11, is that alright?"

"Yep."

"Thanks again. Oh and if Heaven wakes up, just keep her out here with you or put her in the swing. She's been sleeping almost all day. Bottles are in the fridge..nook it for about 25 seconds."

"Okay."

"Alright. Now you two be good." Jen told her kids, kissing them both. "I love you, Be good!"

"We will." Jayson and Cayleigh said in unison.

"You better. Alright, i'll see ya's later.. Nikki around 9 for them." She said before saying one last goodbye and leaving. She walked out to the car and slammed the door after climbing in.

"Ready?" Jen nodded.

"I hope the baby is good for her.."

"Honey, she'll be good. Don't worry about it.. Nikki knows what to do if she gets fussy. If she gets too fussy she's got cell number."

"I know.. it's just.. the first time i'm leaving her with a sitter." Nick grabbed his wife's hand.

"She'll be fine." He looked at her and smiled.

'I hope so.' She thought, somewhatly returning the smile.

***

Nick and Jen walked hand in hand as they walked up to the house. It was a suprise party for a friend of the family. Neither of them wanted to be there, but had no choice because they always showed for their parites.

"Betty, you look great!" Jen complimented. "What did you do?"

"Lyposuction, but I also excersized and jogged and things like that." Jen looked at her and smiled, trying to hide her true opinion on the surgery she had done.. "Enough about me, YOU look great girl! After three kids and you still looking good." Jen blushed.

"Thanks I guess." She laughed.

"Sorry ladies, need to steal my wife for a second." Nick said cutting into the conversation and grabbing Jen's hand and leading her to the corner of the room.

"Thank you for saving me." She exclaimed. "Anything wrong?"

"Yea."

"What? What happened?"

"Nothing happened, Baby. It's just a little boring, thats all. Let's leave a little early... maybe... have a little date." Jen looked at him with an evil grin.

"Walk on the beach?"

"Just what I was thinking." He said rubbing noses with her. "I'll go get our stuff. Tell everyone we're leaving because the sitter has plans or something."

"Okay." She kissed him quickly on the lips, then made her way around to say goodbye to everyone.

***

"I miss this." Jen said leaning back on her husbands chest, feeling the wind blow through her hair.

"Me too." He answered back. "Remember when we use to do this all the time?" She nodded. "That's when I was falling in love with you." Jen looked back at him with a hurt expression. "Now, I AM in love with you." He tilted her head, just enough to get a passionate kiss.

The rest of the night was spend with a lot of talking and cuddling up on the sand, just holding each other, not wanting to let go.

***

Waking up to an empty bed, Jen propped herself up on her elbows and looked around her room. She could hear her daughter faintly whimpering and throw the covers off of her.

She pushed the nursery door open. Her husband was sleeping in the rocking chair, with Heaven in his arms.

"Shhh. Mommy's here, baby." She took her out of his arms and then grabbed the blanket that was on the side of the crib, and covered him with it. Then, she leaned down and kissed him on the lips. Jen stood back and admired him, still loving him as much as when they first met. "Lets go get you something to eat." She whispered, feeling herself smiling.

***

Nick gathered the diapar bag in his hand and picked up the carseat with his sleeping daughter in it. Hearing the phone ring, he threw the bag over his shoulder and placed the carseat on the kitchen counter.

"Hello?...Are you alright?...hold on a second." Nick ran outside, going through the garage, and out to the car. "Your aunt is on the phone." He said, trying not to sound nervous. Jen looked at him with tears welling up in her eyes and went inside, while Nick stayed in the car with the kids. "Stay here, don't touch anything." He told them, then followed his wife.

***

"Where are you going?" He asked above a whisper.

"New York. Start packing." She answered, tears falling from her eyes. Nick went over to her and grabbed her shoulders, turning her toward him.

"What happened?" He asked again, only to get his wife's head digging into his shoulder to sob.

"Nick... Mom...Dad...The got into a car accident.. a bad one." She said inbetween sobs. Nick comforted her, but the pain still didn't go away.

"Shh. Are we taking the kids?"

"Yea, we have no where else for them to go."

"I'll call the airline." He kissed her forehead. "I love you. Finish packing, i'll tell Jay and Cay to come up here and pack some toys they want to bring." Jen nodded. "I'll take the baby out of her chair and put her in the crib." He finished, then turned and walked out of the room.

Jen leaned against the wall and slid down, resting her head in her hands. "Why me?" She whispered, still crying.

***

"Mommy? We going to see Grandma?" Jen looked to the seat next to her and started getting teary again.

"Cayleigh? Grandma and Grandpa got into an accident sweetheart. That's why we're going." She told her. Jen felt her heart shatter as she saw her oldest daughter start crying. "Shhh.. it's okay Cay. Come here." She propped her onto her free leg and held her. (baby was in her other arm that was resting on her leg) "You need to be strong for Mommy and be a big girl. Cousin Gina is going to watch you while Mommy and Daddy go see Grandma and Grandpa okay? And you help her with Heaven." Jen told her, trying to sooth her and get her to stop crying.

"Okay." She said softly and wiping her eyes.

***

"We got here as fast as we could." Jen said running into the lobby. "How are they?"

"Not.. um.. very good." Her aunt said.

"Shit..Why'd this have to happen? Was the bastard fucking drunk?" Jen screamed getting madder by the second. She nodded. Jen grabbed her head like she was going to rip it out of her head, but just broke down crying. "Can I see them?"

***

Jen stepped into the room , where there were two beds. One with her mom and one with her dad. She sat inbetween both beds and grabbed onto each of their hands.

"Hey you guys." She started, her voice cracking. "I made it here as soon as I could.... why do all the bad things happen to this family? It's like God has something against us..."She laughed to herself. "Nick and I were gonna come up in a few weeks to suprise you...show you the baby. I'm sorry we had to come sooner, for this." Jen started crying uncontrollably, "I don't know what i'd do without you guys." She looked at both of them, studying all the tubes and bleeding that was surrounding them. "I wish you guys would let go so I don't have to see you suffer... I just want to let you know that I love you guys so much. Take care of each other and i'll see you guys again." Jen kissed each one of their hands and held them both to her cheeks.

beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep

She looked up to see both machines go flatlined at the same exact time.

"I Love You!" She whispered, kissing their hands again and leaving to get a doctor, and tell everyone else.

Once in the lobby she ran right to Nick, telling him. He held onto, crying with her, telling her everything would be alright...that they're in good hands right now.. aren't sufferening anymore.. and are lucky to have each other than just one of them gone without the other.
