Chapter 3

"Who is this?" I asked worriedly.

"C'mon, you should know who I am. I mean, we were together for so long..." the voice replied.

"So, Will, why the sudden call? And why so damn early in the morning?" I asked rubbing my eye. I looked down to see Nick fast asleep.

"Well, I just wanted to see how you were doing considering this'll be your first show tonight. Of course, I'll be there." Will said. I knew that wasn't all of it.

"I'm fine. I'm happy and I'm loving life." I replied glancing at Nick and playing with his hair.

"So, how's Nick? I hear that you guys are together now..."

"Yeah, you heard right. Nick is great. He's actually laying right here if you want to talk to him." I said sarcastically.

"You always were the smart ass."

"Yeah, well, I try. Anyway, what's the real reason you called?"

"I wanted to know if you'd like to hang out with me after the concert." I thought for a moment when I heard Nick moan. I pulled my hand away from his hair and laughed lightly.

~That Night (Tropicana Field)~

"Linds, are you sure you can do that move tonight?" Fatima asked referring to this jumping flip kinda move I do during 'Step Back'.

"Yeah. I nailed it before. I don't wanna do it now just in case I hurt myself and can't even manage to walk."

"You are one tough girl." I smiled at Fatima's comment. She walked out of the room and left me to practice on my own. I was practicing some breathing excersizes so I wouldn't run out of breath on stage and I was practicing most of the dance moves. My ankle had gone down considerably and I could now walk without limping.

I'm sure you all are wondering about the controversy over my little notebook. See, my lyrics are very explicit on my feelings for Nick. Pretty much, that I love him to death. I don't know what I could without him. Nick and I have said 'I love you' a few times, but I never felt he actually mean it. I did, but when I say that I sound a little insure. When Kevin talked to me, he wanted to make sure I wasn't getting ahead of myself. "I'm only looking out for ya, Linds. I don't wanna see you hurt." Is what Kevin said to me. Brian talked to Nick to see if he was feeling the same thing I am. I'm not sure what he said, but I hope he feels the same way.

"Go, Lindsay, it's your birthday!" I heard AJ chant as he walked into the room I was practicing in. I laughed at him and called him over to me. I needed to stretch a little more, so I told him to stand in front of me. I swung my right leg up to about the height of his head and rested it on his shoulder. I touched my leg with my hands and repeated the same thing with the other leg.

"All right, now that I'm limber..."

"Damn, how can you kick that high?" AJ asked mouth gaping.

"Karate. Three years." I said stretching out my back. AJ left as Nick walked into the room. He waved good-bye as Nick approached me.

"How're you doing?" He asked standing about three inches away from me.

"Pretty good. Don't move." I said and swung my leg up onto Nick's shoulder. "Owww." I said and lifted it off him. "I need to grow taller before I excersize on you." I said and began to hum a tune to one of my songs. "I'm really nervous."

"Don't be. As soon as you get out there and hear people screaming for you, you'll never want to leave the stage." Nick said.

~Five Minutes Till Showtime~

We had already done our prayer and I was standing in the wings getting ready to go onstage. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths. This was it. My first performance. Everyone is here. My mom, Sammy, my brother, some of my friends, and even Will. "One minute everyone!" Someone yelled behind me.

"Linds?" I heard someone ask as they spun me around. It was Nick. He had his hands on my arms and was staring straight into my eyes. "Have I told you lately that I love you?" He asked sincerely.

"Actually, no you haven't." I said being honest.

"Well, I'm telling you now. I love you and you mean everything to me." He said and then leaned down to kiss me. We kissed deeply until someone tried yanking me away from Nick.

"I love you too." I said walking on stage.

"Good luck!" I heard him yell.

"What's up, Florida?!" I yelled into the microphone. I walked out on stage. "My name's Lindsay and I hope you all enjoy the show." Everyone was screaming. Mostly girls of course, but I felt really welcomed. It was such a rush. I jumped right into 'Step Back'. The dance went smoothly and I nailed the move I was worried about getting before. It was kinda creepy being the only one on stage, but I was eating it up! "So, how's everyone doing tonight?!" All I could hear were screams. "Well, I know some of my friends are here tonight. Hey guys. Hi mom, Sammy, Nick, and everyone else I forgot." I went through three more songs. "So, ya'll ready for Backstreet Boys?!" I yelled. Once again, deafening screams. "I'll take that as a yes. Well, it was great being here. Enjoy the show and remember my debut album will be out this Thursday. Ya'll gotta go pick it up. See ya later, Florida." I said and jogged off the stage.

~On The Bus~

I was laying down in my bunk with ice on my ankle. I had hurt it onstage, but decided not to tell anyone. I was extremely tired, so I left the arena early. I decided that I'd be better off if I didn't see Will, but if my family felt up to it, they were going to check out the bus when the guys were leaving. I heard a bunch of screaming and realized the show had just ended. The girls had gathered around the exit and were waiting for autographs. I sighed and leaned my head against the pillow. I felt the bus shake a little and then the voices of the guys. They were calling my name and before I knew it Nick had opened the curtain. "Linds, you were great!" Nick said smiling widely.

"Thanks." I replied softly. The truth is, my ankle was killing me!

"Are you all right? Your family is here." Nick said trying to pull me out of my bunk. He saw my swollen ankle and frowned. He hates to see me hurt and that's why I usually don't tell anyone. Nick helped me out of my bunk and I limped towards my mom.

"Hey Mom."
