Chapter 9
"OK, I'll stop by your house in a half hour, k?" I asked Lauren.
"Sure, see ya." She said as she hung up the phone. I was gonna visit some of my friends from PA for the day. Lauren and I were gonna go to the mall and Steve, and Steph were gonna meet us later.
I threw on a pair of dark denim jeans, a white Abercrombie and Fitch T-shirt, and my nikes. I tied my hair back into a ponytail, applied minimal make-up, and threw on my sunglasses. People usually recognize me by the color of my eyes and my small nose, so if I wear the glasses I kinda disguise myself.
Twenty five minutes later, I pulled up to Lauren's house in my rental car. I walked to the door and rang the doorbell. Lauren's mom greeted me with a hug and then Lauren ran down the stairs. Lauren would have been in her own apartment, but it was being renovated. We hugged and jogged out to my car. In a matter of five minutes, we were at the mall. I fixed my glasses and walked into the mall with Lauren at my side. "Lauren, let's go to the music store for a second. I need to buy a new Limp Bizkit c.d. Mine is missing." I said as we strolled through the mall.
"Sure." She replied. We walked into one of the many music stores in the mall. I think it was Sam Goody. To my right was a rack of none other than BSB shirts. I casually walked passed them towards the c.d. I was searching for. Lauren went her separate way and I noticed her near a pop music rack. She was looking over the shoulders of three teenage girls. I laughed lightly and scanned through the Limp Bizkit c.d's. I found 'Significant Other' and walked towards Lauren with the c.d. in my hand. The girls were still there. As I approached the group, I saw the girls looking at the back of my c.d. I sighed and walked towards them.
"Ready to go, Lauren?" I asked casually. I looked over the girls shoulders. "Good c.d. You should get it." I said sarcastically.
"I was planning on it." One girl said in a snotty tone. I smiled and grabbed Lauren's arm. We walked towards the register and I could swear I felt the girl's eyes following me. I turned around, pulled my glasses down a little, and smiled. Her mouth dropped open. I guess, when she saw my blue hair she recognized me. I bought paid for the c.d. and suggested we don't go into any more music stores. We sat down in the food court and grabbed some lunch. As we were sitting down, my cell phone rang. I placed my food down on the table and pulled my phone out of my bag. "Hello?"
"Hey Linds, hold on." Was that Brian?
"Hey. It's Nick. I asked Brian to call you while I was getting changed. What's up?" He said quickly.
"Nothing really. I'm at the mall with my friend. I'm surprised to hear from you, is everything all right?" I asked while Lauren was giving me funny looks. I mouthed the word 'Nick' to her, but she wasn't understanding.
"I knew you were going to see your dad and I wanted to make sure everything went OK." he said sincerely.
"Wow, thanks, NICK." I said hoping Lauren would now realize who I was talking to. "Everything went fine. I'm really glad I saw him." I said thinking about my dad.
"That's great. Hey, I gotta go. Tell Lauren I said hi."
"How'd you know I was with her?"
"I can tell when you two are together or on the phone. Kinda like me and Frick."
"Yeah, OK." I said not believing it.
"OK, Linds. Gotta go. Good luck tonight. Love ya, bye." He said and hung up the phone.
"That boy is strange." I said looking at Lauren.
~10 Days Later~
"I know, Todd. I'm just nervous. It's been a while. I haven't even talked to any of the guys in a week. I just don't know what to expect." I was sitting down in a rest area talking with one of my dancers, Todd. We have become really good friends and I can talk to him about anything.
"Lindsay, we've over this a few times. They'll be here tomorrow. Just be yourself. You are gonna forget your worries as soon as you see them. I promise."
"But, I've changed. They're not gonna be happy."
"You're still the same person. So what, you've got some blue hair and you cry yourself sleep. You can't help it. Actually, maybe they can talk some sense into you." Todd said smiling.
"C'mon guys. We'll be at the venue in about 5 minutes." Fatima yelled. Everyone hopped back onto the buses and we were on our way.
"Lindsay, are you OK? It looks like something is bothering you."
Fatima asked.
"Let's see, my back hurts, I've got a headache, and I twisted my ankle a minute ago." Fatima laughed at me and decided to give all the dancers and I a break. The concert that night started in two hours. I had to get ready, so Fatima ushered me out of the practice room we were using.
"Amy, do you think this color clashes with my hair?" I asked holding up a green top which I really didn't want to wear anyway. I was trying to come up with an excuse not to wear it. Amy, one of the dancers, knew what I was trying to do.
"Uh...uh...yeah, you should wear this shirt." Amy said handing me a white T-shirt with glittery letters on the front that said 'ROCKSTAR'. It was one of my favorite shirts. I mouthed a 'thanks' and walked away changing into my shirt. A few minutes later I was done in hair and moved over to make-up.
"Ah, Lindsay, I love when you wear this shirt, now we can put some glitter on your cheeks and eyes." I sighed and let her work on my face. I hate make-up, absolutely hate it.
~7:00~
"What's up, Cali?" I screamed into the microphone as I was walking out on stage. The screams I received were deafening. "Hope you guys enjoy the show tonight." I said preparing myself for all the camera flashes. I swear I could've gone blind. I hit the first note to my song, 'Convict', and I could hear everyone screaming. This scared the crap outta me, but it got me pumped at the same time. You have never felt anything until you feel the rush you get on stage when people are screaming for you.
"Damn! Do you hear them?" Amy asked Todd as they began to dance.
Todd could only smile his wide grin.
"I'm not that innocent." I sang loudly. This was my last song called, 'Innocent'. For some reason it was a huge hit at the concerts. "Good night everyone! Love ya guys!" I yelled waving to the massive crowd. I was blinded by the flashes and ran off stage quickly. A towel was thrown at me and then I was bombarded with hugs. All the dancers and I would hug after every show. Then I saw Todd and he completely engulfed me in his arms.
"You were great, Lindsay! I think that was your best show yet." He said happily. He let go, waved and jogged off somewhere. I was extremely tired and strolled over to my dressing room. I closed the door behind me and leaned up against it.
"Holy crap!"
