Chapter Eight

Ryan and Colleen hung out with the guys for the next week and it was obvious to everyone that Ryan and Brian had hooked up. Kevin and Colleen were taking it slow but so far, everything was going great.

Colleen was restlessly sleeping, once again caught up in her dream of the masked man. It was beginning to get annoying. The only clue to his identity was dark hair and green eyes, but Colleen was clueless beyond that. Just as she reached for his mask for the thousandth time, she woke up due to someone shaking her.

“What the. . .?” Colleen said groggily as she turned over to see her cousin sitting on her bed with a cute white sundress on.

“Hey, what’s wrong?” Colleen asked as she noticed it was five o’clock in the morning. Only an emergency would make Ryan wake up this early.

Ryan smiled. “Nothing, I was just wondering if you were up to annoying the guys,” she said with a grin.

Colleen laid there for a minute, needing no explanation as to who the guys were. Annoying them, huh? she thought as a slow grin spread on her face.

“Of course I’m up for that. What are we going to do?” she asked as she sat up and got out of the bed.

Ryan grinned. “Well, I thought that we could go over there with that huge batch of muffins and scones we made yesterday and wake them up really early.”

Colleen looked at her. “That isn’t much of a prank,” she said with a disappointed look.

Ryan shrugged. “Yeah, well. Maybe we could take along our supply of silly string and whipped cream to spice it up a bit,” she said with a nonchalant look on her face. Colleen’s face brightened.

“Now, you’re talking,” she said as she hurriedly put on a white tank top and Adidas rip aways and a pair of Adidas running shoes.

They grabbed the basket of muffins and scones and hopped into Colleen’s Jeep, shivering slightly in the chilly early morning air. The sun was only just beginning to rise, and Colleen had to put on her lights to combat the grayness of the morning. Waking up the boys this early on one of their vacation days was going to kill the guys. They arrived at the Plaza and waved hi at the receptionist as they walked over to the elevators. They got in and pushed the button for the eighteenth floor where the guys had four rooms. Kevin had his own with A.J.’s right next door. Howie’s was across from A.J’s and Brian and Nick, who shared a room, was right across from Kevin. Colleen and Ryan tried to stifle their giggles as they walked down the hall to the guys bedrooms. They hurriedly set up and at exactly five thirty in the morning, knocked loudly on every boy’s room. And then ran down the hall and around the corner and waited. Four doors opened simultaneously and five heads peeked out.

“Hey, whoever decided to wake me up at five thirty in the morning is going to get killed,” said Kevin as he stood there in his boxers, rubbing his eyes.

“Nick and Brian, this better not be one of your lame-ass practical jokes, because I take my beauty sleep seriously,” said A.J., as he stifled a yawn.

“A.J., I know how much you need your beauty sleep,” said Brian sleepily. “As ugly as you are, you need all the help you can get. Plus I wouldn’t bother wasting my sleep to get up to wake you up,” he said. “Did that make any sense?”

Then Nick spoke up. “Guys, has anyone else noticed a muffin sitting in the middle of the hallway or is it just because I’m starving?” Nick asked.

“You’re always starving, Nick. But yeah, there is a muffin in the hallway, and there is another one a couple inches away,” said Howie as he noticed the trail of muffins down the hall. The guys stopped talking and all stared at the trail.

“What the hell?” asked A.J. He walked out into the middle of the hallway and started following the trail. The rest of the guys followed him. They slowly followed the trail of blueberry muffins, cranberry muffins, chocolate chip muffins, and various other muffins down the hall. A.J. stopped as the trail seemed to end until he noticed out of the corner of his eye, another muffin around the corner. He and the rest of the guys turned around the corner and were bombarded with silly string and whipped cream.

“AHHHHHH!” Nick screamed, as he raised his hands over his face. "Not the face," he yelled. The rest of the guys did the same.

Pretty soon, the boys looked like statues of whipped cream, colorfully decorated with green and pink silly string. They lowered their hands as they heard laughter. Colleen and Ryan were sitting on the floor, holding their stomachs as they laughed so hard they cried.

“Good morning, guys,” said Colleen between gasps of air.

“You’re looking good,” said Ryan which set the girls off on another tangent of laughter. They stood up and wiped the tears from their eyes. "And Nick, not the face? You don't have to worry about getting ugly or anything. You're already there and beyond," she said with a small laugh.

“You know, whipped cream for breakfast isn’t really healthy,” Colleen said as she and Ryan exchanged satisfied glances. They gave each other a low five and picked up the basket of muffins and scones.

“You guys hungry? We made scones and of course, muffins as you know,” Ryan said as Colleen started giggling again.

The guys said nothing.

“Um, guys?” Colleen said as she began to notice that the guys didn’t seem that happy with their little joke.

Brian looked at Kevin and Kevin back at Brian. “Hey, Kev, why don’t we give our friends here a nice big hug?” Brian asked Kevin.

Kevin silently nodded.

“Um, guys, that’s okay. We don’t need a hug,” said Ryan nervously. Colleen nodded in agreement.

“Oh, but we have to thank you for the muffins and scones,” said Kevin, calmly as he walked towards Colleen.

Colleen and Ryan looked at one another, dropped the basket, and took off running down the hall. The guys started to give chase when A.J. stopped them.

“Hey guys, let’s wait for the hunted to come to the hunters,” he said with a grin. The guys stopped and nodded.

“Okay,” said Nick as he grabbed the basket of scones and muffins. He looked at them and grinned. “Man, I’m starving,” he said as he grabbed a chocolate chip muffin and stuffed it in his mouth. The rest of the guys just shook their heads and walked back to their rooms to take showers.

Colleen and Ryan eventually stopped running and after going down to the lobby and grabbing coffee in the Plaza’s restaurant, decided to head back up to the guys’ rooms.

“They would have cooled off by now, right?” asked Colleen to Ryan.

“Sure, I mean it was only whipped cream and silly string. It washes off real easy-like,” Ryan said with a grin. They both started laughing again as they remembered the looks on the guys’ faces when they had sprayed them.

They got off on the eighteenth floor and walked back to the guys’ rooms. Colleen knocked on Kevin’s door and after waiting a couple of minutes, Kevin answered.

“Hey, come on in. The rest of the gang’s here,” he said with a smile. Colleen and Ryan both sighed with relief as they didn’t notice any anger from Kevin or the rest of the gang when they entered the room. They walked in and sat down at the table in the sitting area. A.J., Nick, Brian, and Howie didn’t say hi as they were busy wolfing down their muffins with big glasses of milk, but they all waved.

“Hey guys, hope you’re not mad about the whipped cream,” said Ryan with a smile. “I mean, it was just a joke.”

Colleen nodded. “Yeah, it was just a joke,” she chimed in.

Nick washed down his mouthful of muffin with some milk and then said, “That’s okay. It was a pretty good joke, with the trail of muffins leading us right into the trap,” he said with an admiring look.

The girls exchanged looks of pride with each other.

“Thanks,” Colleen said. “But you know, I got some whipped cream on myself, and now I’m sticky,” she complained as she rubbed a sticky spot on her arm. Kevin looked up.

“A little sticky, huh? Maybe you need a shower, like we did,” he said as he slowly approached Colleen with a tricky look on his face.

“Kevin, what are you going to do?” Colleen asked nervously.

Kevin gave her an innocent look. “Me? Nothing, just going to help clean you up a bit,” he said as he quickly grabbed her and threw her over his shoulder and ran to the bathroom.

“NO!!! KEVIN, DON’T YOU DARE!” Colleen screamed, as Kevin turned on the shower. He didn’t hesitate and threw her in, the cold water drenching her to the skin. She stood there shocked, starting to shiver as the ice cold water washed over her. Kevin and the rest of the guys who had come in the bathroom were cracking up as they watched her slowly turn off the shower.

“Okay, you guys. You got me back,” she said as she climbed out. Kevin handed her a towel to dry off.

“Thanks a lot,” she said as she snapped the towel out of his hands. Her lips were quickly turning blue and she was starting to shiver violently.

“Whoa, Colleen, you don’t look to good,” said A.J. worriedly. “We better get you some dry clothes or you’ll never warm up.”

Kevin ran and got a pair of his sweat pants and one of his sweat shirts and handed them to Colleen. The guys left the bathroom to let Colleen change.

She walked out a couple minutes later looking and feeling warmer and also with a better attitude towards the prank. She saw Kevin sitting on the bed and went over and sat next him. He pulled her into his arms and she leaned against his chest, moving around for a couple minutes until she got comfortable.

“You know, you look cute in my clothes,” he whispered in her ear and she turned her head and smiled up at him. Just then her stomach growled.

“Hey guys, throw me a cranberry muffin,” she said, hoping that there was one left. Nick rummaged through the basket and threw one to her.

“Thanks Nick,” she said. “Hey, I was wondering, why didn’t you guys get back at Ryan?” Colleen asked as she shivered, still feeling a bit chilly after her unexpected shower.

“Cause we like Ryan better than you,” said A.J. with a grin.

Colleen threw a piece of her muffin at him, hitting him in the head. “Thanks, A.J. I love you too. So anyway, what do you guys want to do today? You know, tomorrow we leave for Chicago.” Colleen said while eating her muffin.

“Well, how about we swim in the hotel’s pool?” Nick suggested.

Ryan and Colleen looked at each other.

Ryan shrugged her shoulders. “Okay, our swimsuits are back at my house, so we’ll run over there and be right back,” she said as they both got up.

Ryan grabbed the keys and her purse and started to walk to the door where Colleen was standing, when Brian stopped her.

“Hey, you didn’t give me my good morning kiss,” he said with a grin. Ryan smiled and kissed him. The kiss started to turn pretty intense until Colleen cleared her throat.

“Um, Ryan? Sometime today?” Ryan and Brian stopped kissing and blushed simultaneously as the rest of the gang started laughing. She gave him one more quick kiss and walked out the door with Colleen.

After the door closed, the guys’ turned their attention to Brian.

“So Brian, things getting pretty serious between you and Ryan?” asked A.J. with a grin. Brian blushed.

“Oooh, Brian’s in love,” yelled Nick whiling making kissing noises.

“So are you, Brian? Do you love her?” asked Howie.

“I don’t know. I’ve only know her for about two weeks, but I really like her. I don’t think I’ve ever liked a girl this much,” he said while looking at his hands.

“So have you gotten lucky yet?” asked A.J.

“No, he hasn’t,” said Kevin as he read the morning paper.

Brian turned around. “How did you know that?” he asked.

“Well, Colleen told me that Ryan’s got the same no sex before marriage standard,” Kevin said looking up. “So, that means no getting lucky.”

Brian nodded. A.J. looked curious.

“You mean, they don’t believe in sex before marriage? They’re virgins?” he asked, shocked.

Kevin and Brian nodded. “Yeah, isn’t that really cool?” said Brian.

“I didn’t know virgins still existed in this world,” said A.J.

“Well, except for Nick.”

“Hey!” Nick protested. “Shut up!”

A.J. laughed. “I’m just kidding, Nick. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

Kevin nodded. “Yeah, I think it’s cool that they value their virginity. Colleen said that she wanted it to be special, a gift to the guy that she will be committing her heart and life too.”

Howie smiled. “That’s beautiful.”

The guys started talking about sports as Kevin noticed the scores in the paper and then they all went to their rooms to get their suits on, meeting back at Kevin’s room to wait for the girls. Colleen and Ryan arrived with their suits and Colleen’s laptop.

“Hey, Colleen.” said Nick. “Why did you bring your laptop?”

“I’ve got a headache and I thought that I would just surf the net while you guys swim,” she said as they headed down to the pool.

“Okay. Hey, do you have any games on it?” Nick asked excitedly.

“Yeah, tons. I’ll show them to you later.”

Nick nodded. “Cool.”

They walked into the pool and the group got in the pool and swam while Colleen laid on the lounge chairs and after hooking her comp up to her silver Nokia cell phone, surfed the net.

She entered SNAP and entered a search for the Backstreet Boys and was reading some fanfic about them. She got to this one awesome site called Backstreet Boy stories and was reading this awesome fanfic by a girl named Tanya that had her cracking up. Nick soon noticed Colleen having a grand time on her comp and climbed out of the pool and sat down next to her.

“Hey, Pirate. Whatcha reading?” he asked as he peeked over her shoulder.

“Nick! Get away, you’re dripping on me,” Colleen said, laughing. Nick smiled and leaned back.

“Whatcha reading?” he repeated as he watched her get absorbed in the fanfic again.

“Huh? Oh sorry, I’m reading this awesome fanfic by this girl named Tanya a.k.a. Goldie Locks,” she said.

“Oh, fanfic about what?” he asked as he stretched out on the lounge chair next to her.

“Oh, about you guys.” she said. Nick sat up, interested.

“Really? What’s this one about?”

“Oh, you and Tanya hook up. It is a really good story,” Colleen said.

“Yeah, anything about me is really good,” said Nick with a grin.

Colleen just groaned. “Yeah, sure Nick. Keep your delusions alive and live in that little happy dreamworld of yours.” Nick just stuck his tongue out her. Colleen stuck her tongue out back at him. Just then Kevin and Howie walked up just in time to observe their kindergarten behavior.

“Children, children. Do you guys need a time out?” asked Kevin, shaking his finger at them.

Colleen and Nick looked down and blushed.

“No, we’re okay,” Colleen said as she turned her attention back to her story.

“Hey, Colleen, watcha reading?” asked Howie as he grabbed his towel off the stack on Colleen’s lounge chair. She looked up.

“Oh, some BSB fanfic.” She looked down again when she suddenly remembered something.

“Hey Howie?”

“What?” he said as he sat down at the end of her lounge chair.

Brian, A.J., and Ryan had gotten out of the pool and had walked over to join the rest of the group.

“I was looking at some early pics of you guys, and I was wondering, no offense or anything, but why didn’t you keep your hair short? I mean, you looked so hot with it that way,” Colleen asked.

Howie shrugged. “I don’t know, I just decided to grow it out. But now that you mention it, my hair is sorta annoying me,” he said as he flipped his long, wet locks back.

Colleen’s eyes lit up. “Really? Hey, Ryan, I got an idea.”

Ryan looked at Colleen and knew what she was thinking. “Yeah, totally. Something chunky, you know finger cut, sorta spiky and sexy,” she said.

Colleen nodded. “Exactly what I was thinking.” Howie looked at them, not understanding a thing they were saying.

“Um, translation?” he asked. The rest of the guys nodded.

Ryan turned to Howie. “D? Let me cut your hair,” she said.

“I have done it tons of times with Connor and the gang,” she rushed on, seeing his freaked out look. “They have always loved the result.” Colleen nodded.

“Yeah, and Nick, I was thinking, how would you feel about going a little wild?” Colleen asked as she turned towards him.

“Me? No way, there is no way you are touching my hair,” Nick said, shaking his head.

“Me neither,” said Howie.
