Chapter 15
I was just stepping out of the shower when my phone rang. I ran out of the bathroom in my towel and picked up my cordless phone.
"Hello?" I said a little out of breath.
"Hi, Lindsay? This is Kimberly from Jive."
"Yeah, hi. I'm just getting ready now." I explained looking for clothes to wear.
"Well, there's been a problem in New York with the Backstreet Boys and he had to catch a plane out there. He would've called, but there was no time."
"Oh. I see." I said disappointed.
"Don't be sad, hun. He wants to see you some other time this week. He just got called up to New York."
"Yeah, ok. I won't." I said thinking about the problem in New York.
"Go have fun today, Lindsay. It's really nice outside."
"Yeah, I think I'll do that. Thanks for calling."
"No problem, hun. Bye." I hung up the phone and got changed quickly. I threw on my black one piece bathing suit under a pair of board shorts and a white Billabong T-shirt. I called Kristin and told her the plans were changed and that we'd go to the beach considering I've never been to a real one. I then called John, the security guard and told him to let Kris and Dallas in the gate. He agreed and we talked for a little while. When I got off the phone, I tied my wet hair up into a messy bun and blew dry my bangs out quickly. I began to think about the problem in NY, and decided I wanted to know what was going on. Since Kev is the "boss", I called his cell and to my surprise he picked up on the fifth ring.
"Hello?" I heard him ask in a grumpy voice.
"Kev? It's Lindsay."
"Linds! How are ya?" He asked sounding happier.
"Ok, what's going on up there?" I asked.
"There's like a mob of people wanting to audition. We didn't anticipate such a turn out. It's just really crazy. Wanna talk to Nick?" He asked.
"No thanks, but is B there?" I asked hopeful. Kev's answer came a little shaky. I think he thought I'd jump at the chance to talk to Nick. The truth is I had forgiven him and the gifts were nice, but I just needed some time.
"Yeah, here he is. Hold on." Kev said.
"Helloooo?!" Brian yelled into the phone.
"B? It's me."
"Whooooo?!" He yelled.
"Bri, why are you yelling?" I asked.
"No reason." He said resuming his regular voice. I laughed. "What's up, girlie?"
"Nada. I'm going to the beach today with some friends. I heard about the mob there. You guys alright?" I asked.
"Pretty much. Someone ripped Nick's hat off though and there were some girls trying to take my Kentucky hat, but I held onto it. Wanna talk to Nick?" Just then I heard the doorbell.
"Sorry. I can't. Just tell him I said 'hi'. Ok?" I asked.
"Yeah no problem." Brian said hesitantly.
"I'll call one of you guys again later. Stay safe. Bye." I heard Brian say 'bye' and then I hung up. I ran downstairs to be greeting by Kristin and the girl I assumed was Dallas. Dallas was about 5'2" with strawberry blonde hair (a little redder than blonde), freckles, green eyes, and thin wire rimmed glasses. The glasses were kinda cool. Fashionable, not geeky. We were introduced. She seemed really sweet. Nick once told me about a private beach all the neighbors in the community went to. We decided to go there. We spent a few hours there and I absolutely loved it. I had never been to a real beach and it was the best.
When we got home, it was late in the afternoon. I had them both stay over my house for homemade chicken parmesan. We ate dinner and they went home. As I closed the door, my phone line began to ring. I ran upstairs towards my room and grabbed the phone falling on my bed.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Lindsay?" I heard an unfamiliar voice.
"Yeah, who's this?" I asked curiously sitting up on my bed.
"It's Derrick." I cringed and I think he could tell. "I just wanted to apologize for my behavior the other day. I deserved everything I got. I was totally out of line." Yeah you were! I thought.
"Yeah, I see where you're coming from." I said. He sounded really sincere. It may have been a stupid move, but I believe in giving people second chances. "Don't worry. You're forgiven." I said honestly.
"Really? That's awesome. I'm still sorry about the whole incident." I was quiet. "What are you doing tomorrow?" he asked.
"Actually I'm going to the mall with some of my friends."
"Oh. Well, I'm gonna go now. See ya in school."
"Yeah. Bye." I hung up the phone and began to fondle the star charm hanging around my neck. Without even thinking I dialed Brian's cell phone number. I needed to talk to someone. On the second ring someone picked up.
"Hello?" This isn't Brian.
"Nick?" I asked.
"Linds?" He asked.
"That'd be me." I was actually glad it was Nick. He told me him and Brian must have switched cell phones by mistake. Nick explained the whole mess in NY. After about a five minute convo, he asked me if I had received the gifts.
"Yes I did. That was really sweet, Nick. You didn't have to get me anything, though." I said touching the star around my neck.
"I know, but I had to get the charm for you. The roses were something extra." It got quiet and then I heard someone in the background.
"Nicky? Who are you on the phone with?" a female voice asked. Then a heard rustling and she was on the phone talking to me. "Who is this?" she asked rudely.
"Lindsay. Can you please put Nick back on the phone?" I asked politely.
"Oh, you're Lindsay. Well, sorry babe. He's busy now. Bye." And like that, she hung up on me. I had to admit, I was pissed at that. I was hoping he'd call right back, but it never happened.
~In New York~
"Why'd you do that? That was an important phone call." Nick said anger in
his voice.
"Nick, you've been talking about this chick all night and I intend on helping
you get her out of your mind." the female said crawling towards Nick.
"First of all, she's not a CHICK! Secondly, Vivian, I barely know you. I
agreed to hang out tonight and talk. That's it!" Nick said backing away from
her.
"Nick, c'mon. Give in." She said pressing her lips against Nicks'. Nick fell
over in his chair while Vivian climbed on top of him. Just then, Brian and
AJ walked into the room.
"Holy shit! Sorry." Brian said grabbing AJ's arm to pull him out of the room.
Vivian didn't bother getting off Nick, but tried to get her tongue down his
throat.
"Go Nicky!" AJ yelled as Brian pulled him into the hallway and closed the
door. Nick began to push Vivian away.
"Stop!" She got off him and sat up. "I'd like for you to leave." Nick said
opening the door for her.
"I know you want it that way, Nick." She said trying to be funny as she walked
away from Nick's room. Nick closed the door only to hear Brian and AJ talking
loudly next door. Nick ran into the bathroom and grabbed a glass. He pressed
it against the wall and placed his ear on the glass.
