Chapter 21
After the party was over, I searched for Nick. I felt bad that I gave him the cold shoulder. He did all this stuff for me and I acted like a little bitch. I wouldn't be surprised if he never talked to me again. After I talked to my friends, and they told me they were staying for two more days, I walked around a bush to see Nick talking with the brunette. "Nick, I gotta go. We're hanging out tomorrow, right?" the woman asked.
"Uh huh." Nick said emotionless. The woman stood up and kissed Nick on the lips a last time. She pulled away and ran her pointer finger across his top lip. When she was out of sight, I glanced back at Nick to see him fiddling with the promise ring on his finger. I sighed deeply and walked towards Nick. I sat down to the right of him. There were probably only a few inches between us.
"Thanks for flying my friends down here, Nick." I said quietly.
"It was no problem. I know you missed them." Nick never took his eyes off of the ring.
"Yeah, but I did make a wonderful friend here that I would hate to lose." I said looking at him. He finally looked up and our eyes met.
"And who would that be?" Nick said with a half smile. I thought for a little while to make Nick anticipate my response.
"AJ, of course!" I said. His face fell. "I'm kidding. God, Nick, you can be so blonde sometimes." I said nudging him. We laughed for a little while and then became serious again. "Nick I'm really sorry if I did something to hurt you. I didn't do it on purpose." I said sincerely. Nick nodded. "So ... best buds again?" I asked smiling. Nick thought for a second and then smiled widely. I knew what he meant. We hugged for a minute, and then decided it was time to clean up.
~The Next Day~
"God Nickolas, you're supposed to be spending time with me. Not her!" I heard
someone yelling in the front lawn of my house.
"You're not my mother. I can see Lindsay if I want. We are friends." Nick
said calmer than the woman.
"Nick, this is not a good idea. We are supposed to spend time together. You
can see her later." She said. I walked to the front door.
"Alright, alright." Nick said walking back towards his house with the woman
attached to his arm. That was weird. I thought as I walked back into the
kitchen.
~A Month Later~
It's been about three weeks since I last talked to Nick. I haven't seen him
in a month. Brian told me the brunette that I saw at my party was his new
girlfriend, Vanessa. She was taking up a lot of his time. Nick never picked
me up for school, and I never got a chance to talk to him during class. I
was really busy with Miss. Malloy because she wanted me to sing a solo for
the Christmas concert. She was also debating whether to have someone sing
with me or not.
~At Brian's House(Same Time)~
"Man, you gotta chill. It's for the better." Brian said comforting Nick.
"But, I thought everything was going well. One morning, we wake up after
a long night if you know what I mean, and she's like 'Nicky, I can't see
you anymore'. What's up with that?" Nick said getting angry.
"I can't explain it, man. Some chicks are like that. She wasn't any good
for you anyway. We never saw you. You do have other friends that care about
you." Brian said trying to talk some sense into Nick. Nick nodded.
"Yeah, you're right." Nick said before he left. He felt a lot better talking
to Brian.
That night, Brian called AJ. "Bone? I got a great idea..."
~Brian and Nick(Basketball Court)~
"That was a cheap shot, man! Do over!"
"Whatever, Brian. Get over it. It's not my fault I'm taller than you." Nick
said getting some water.
"Oh, Nick. I know this girl I think you should meet. She's really nice and
she likes the same things as you, and she's just a good person." Brian said
looking at Nick.
"Um... I don't know." Nick said drinking some more water.
"C'mon. Just one date. She's really sweet and if you don't like her, you
never have to see her again. OK?" Brian said.
~AJ And I(Mall)~
"AJ, I don't think that color will look good on you. Plus you've already
done pink." I said taking the box of hair color away from AJ.
"Yeah, I guess you're right." AJ said. "Oh, Linds, I met this guy that would
be perfect for you. You guys would make an awesome couple. You'd get along
great. Promise." AJ said catching my attention.
"AJ, you know I've never been on a date before. Plus, it would be weird
considering I don't even know the guy." I said bringing up a good point.
"Lindsay, c'mon. One date. You will feel right at home. I promise. He won't
do anything to hurt you." AJ said putting his arm around me to convince me
into seeing this guy.
~Movie Theatre~
So, I gave in. I decided to meet this guy. AJ didn't stop bugging me, so
I'm going through with it. I hop this guy is nice and not some freak stalker
or something. It's kinda chilly out here. I wish I had a jacket.
"What are you doing here?" Someone asked behind me.
