Chapter 22

I turned around to see a familiar blonde placing his jacket on me. "Thanks Nick." He has got to be my night in shining armor. Now I'm nice and toasty.

"No problem. So, why are you here by yourself?" He asked looking at my outfit. I was dressed simply in black pants, and a glass beaded, black shirt, with my boots, and my hair down.

"This may sound really stupid, but AJ told me to meet a guy here. I probably shouldn't be here, but oh well. So, what are you doing here, Mr.Carter?" I asked zipping up the leather jacket Nick handed to me.

"Well, seems like I'm in the same position as you. Brian said I should meet a girl here." Nick said.

"Nick, it seems as though, this guy is late. Would you mind keeping me company?" I asked.

"Sure." Just then a cell phone rang from inside the pocket. I looked at Nick, and he nodded. I pulled out the cell phone and answered it.

"Hello?" I said trying to sound like Nick. Nick laughed at my impression.

"I do not sound like that." He said still laughing.

"Hello? Nick?" I heard Brian ask.

"Oh, hey Bri. It's Lindsay." I said smiling.

"Hey. I take it Nick's there?" Brian asked.

"Yeah, that would be why I picked up his cell phone. We're at the movie theater." I explained.

"Oh...I guess its time to tell you AJ and I have been working together to get you guys to go out on a date." Brian said. My jaw dropped.

"So, this blonde sasquash-looking thing is supposed to be my date?" I asked as I saw Nick look at me funny. I giggled at his expression.

"And we have a winner!" Brian said in his best game show voice. "You're not angry are you?" Brian asked.

"Nah, actually I'm happy. It'll be easier hanging with someone I already know."

"OK, well you kids have fun. I gotta go now. Bye." Brian said as he hung up the phone. I pressed the 'end' button on the phone and turned to Nick.

"Nick, it seems as though I was the girl Brian told you about and you were the guy AJ told me about." Nick looked a little shocked and my self esteem plummeted greatly. I felt he would have been happier if he was with someone else. "How about we just go home. I can obviously see you are disappointed." I said as I handed him his jacket and walked towards my car.

"Lindsay." He said as he grabbed my arm and spun me around. "I'm not disappointed. Just shocked. I wanna know why they did this. They know we're just friends." I nodded as Nick let go of my arm. He smiled at me and put his arm around my shoulders as we began to walk back towards the theater. "How about the Sixth Sense?" Nick asked. I looked at him and smiled. I really wanted to see that. The next obstacle was to figure out who was going to pay. We kept putting our money down at the same time. Finally Nick grabbed my hand. "You can pay for the movie if I can buy you dinner." Nick said looking into my eyes. Dinner? I didn't think there would be anything else. I agreed and we walked into the movie.

There was about half of the movie left when Nick and I both finished our sodas. In theaters, I tend to get really hot and uncomfortable. It always happens. My cheeks turn pink and I get a headache. I placed the back of my hand on my cheek and felt the warmth. Damn! I hate when this happens. I began to try and become more comfortable. Nick must have seen me moving around and looked at me. Even with the little light in the theater, he could see my face becoming red. He brought is hand up to my cheek. I frowned. I didn't want to have to leave. The movie was really good. I looked at Nick and smiled as he moved my head to lean on his shoulder. He then wrapped his arm around my shoulder. I think he knew I just wasn't feeling well. I watched the rest of the movie from the comfort of Nick's arm and shoulder. I felt my face cool down just as the lights came on. Nick looked down at me and smiled. We left the movie theater absentmindedly holding hands. Since we both had cars, we decided I would follow Nick to the restaurant of his choice.

After driving for about 15 minutes, we pulled up to a restaurant with a patio near the ocean. I was beautiful. I parked my car next to Nick's Durango and opened my door to see Nick waiting for me. I walked towards him. "Nick, this is too much." I said as he tried to pull me into the restaurant.

"C'mon. Don't worry about anything." We walked into the restaurant and we were greeted by a hostess who seemed to recognize Nick. She smiled brightly when she saw him in front of her. Oh great. This is going to be a long night.
