Chapter 24

It was Monday, and I was almost finished getting ready for school. As I slipped my last boot on, I heard someone honking the horn outside. I looked out of my window and saw Brian's jeep. I grabbed my backpack. "Here goes nothing." I said as I left the house. I jogged to Brian's jeep. "Hey Bri." I said getting in. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Nick just leaving his house. I felt really guilty for some reason. A few minutes later, Brian and I arrived at school. He dropped me off near the front entrance.

"See ya later, Linds." Brian said as I closed the car door. I waved to him and walked into school. I met with Ms. Malloy before homeroom to discuss the winter concert.

"Lindsay, I've decided to add another voice to accompany yours for our finale song." I looked at Ms. Malloy as if saying 'and who would that be?' "And that would of course be Nickolas." I sighed. "You two sound lovely together."

"Yes, thank you. I hafta get to homeroom now. See ya later, Ms. Malloy." I said walking out of the classroom. Since, I entered homeroom late, I only had time to talk to Nick during our classes. In science class, he sent a note my way.

'Linds,

Is something wrong? I know I acted like a jerk the other night, but I thought I'd pick you up for school and explain everything to you. Why did Brian take you? I'm really sorry about everything. Pleas write back.

-Nick'

Hmmm...that was nice. Now I've made a decision. I'm not doing what Brian suggested. That would just be too...what's the word? BITCHY! There it is! I wrote back to him quickly.

'Nick,

No, nothing's wrong. I had to leave that night, but you weren't making me want to stay. I have to be blunt and say that I didn't appreciate you undressing the waitress with your eyes while I was there. It made me feel like crap. Brian picked me up, 'cuz he was being nice. I know I was a bitch too, and I think I should have given you a chance to talk to me. I'm sorry.

*Lindsay'

I tossed the note towards Nick. Out of the corner of my eye, I watched Nick read it. He smiled, I knew we were cool. After class, he came to visit me at my locker. We talked for a little while along with apologizing numerous amounts of times. Later that day, Nick and I had our first practice for the Christmas song we'd be singing. We did really well. I had a great day until we left school together and saw Brian waiting for me. "Oh great." I said seeing Brian's car. Nick looked up and saw his friend.

"Don't worry about it. Go on. I'll talk to ya later." I made a sad face and we hugged. It was nice knowing Nick and I had no hard feelings.

"Hey Bri." I said jumping into the jeep. He nodded.

"So, you and Nick make up?" He asked.

"Yes, that is correct." All of a sudden I had an idea. "You know what? I wanna have a party. How about I invite all of you guys, and some of my friends and we can party like it's 1999." I said excitedly.

"It is 1999, dear." Brian said sarcastically. "Yeah, that'd be cool." I nodded I was looking forward to this.

~Friday Night~

Ding! Dong! I ran to the front door. In walked Kevin and Howie. "Hey guys!" I said hugging the both of them.

"So we're the first ones here?" Howie asked.

"Yup. Come upstairs with me. I hafta finish getting ready." I said pulling Kevin and Howie up the stairs. They walked into my room and looked around. I entered the bathroom and began to brush my teeth only to hear them talking loudly. As soon as I was finished, I saw the two of them holding a picture frame up and smiling. I walked over to them and saw it was the picture my mom took of Nick and I before we left for AJ's party. It was also the one where Nick turned to kiss me.

"Is this the night of AJ's party?" Howie asked. I nodded. Kevin just smiled.

"Why so smiley, Kev?" I asked cocking an eyebrow.

"It's just...I don't know...cute. You guys actually look like a couple." He said smiling and laughing a little. Howie began to laugh.

"Yeah, that's right, yuk it up!" I said sarcastically as the doorbell rang again. We all ran downstairs to be greeted by some of my school friends. "Everyone this is Howie and Kevin. Howie, Kev, this is Carrie, Kristin, Nathan, Jessica, Lauren, Scott, and Tony." They all shook hands and moved into the living room. The talked for a little while as my mom and I brought out some chips, and pizza, and sodas, etc. Kevin offered to help when I heard the doorbell ring again. This time, it was Nick, Brian, and AJ.

"Now we can get the party started, AJ's here!" AJ yelled after he hugged me. Brian and Nick hugged me at the same time and I almost couldn't breathe. I began to hit them lightly on the arm.

"Can't breathe. " I said in a little raspy voice. They pulled away and we walked into the room. Nick introduced everyone to each other while I tried to get my family to vacate the first floor. Mom, Sammy, and Nick, all went to their bedrooms. I walked into the living room to see everyone talking. Then I decided to play some music. I turned on the stereo and popped in my c.d. of D.J. Skribble's mixes. Everyone began to dance. They were all having a good time. AJ and Lauren were bumping and grinding, and Nick and Brian were chillin' near the pizza. I was sitting on the kitchen steps watching everyone when Howie approached me.

"Que pasa?" Howie asked sitting next to me.

"Nothing. Just chillin'" I said looking at him.

"You're not chillin' if you're sitting here by yourself. C'mon." He said. I willingly got up and he walked me to the center of the room. We danced to the dance version of 'Nobody's Supposed To Be Here' by Deborah Cox. I was really getting into it. It was funny. After the dance, I hugged Howie and thanked him. I was feeling better. I walked over to the table to get a soda.

"Having fun?" someone asked behind me. I turned around.

"Now I am. I was a little bummed before." I said looking at Nick.

"Wanna talk about it?" He asked. I shook my head 'no'.

"Nah, its' over with." I said taking a sip of my soda.

"Hey! Anyone wanna play a game?" Jessica asked loudly. Oh great, I've only known Jess for a little while, but I knew what she was going to say.

"OOOOHHH, what game?" AJ said turning the stereo off.

"How about Truth or Dare? I haven't played that in years!" She said.

"I can't remember the last time I played." Kevin said. I laughed.

"Are you gonna play, Linds?" Nick asked.

"Uhhhh...I don't know." I said unsure.

"C'mon." Nick said grabbing my hand and pulling me towards a little circle that had already begun to form. Nick let go of my hand. He went and sat next to Brian, while I was stuck next to Kev. I smiled at him. He looked like a little kid. I think he really wanted to play.

"OK. Who's the first victim?" AJ said looking around the circle of 13 people. I really didn't want to play. I hate games like these. All of a sudden, AJ looked at me. "Lindsay, truth or dare?" Crap! Crap! Crap! Of course he picked me.

"Uhh... I'll be a little chicken. Gimme a truth." I said somewhat boldly.

"OK, you seem like a good little girl, but I know everyone's got a secret. So, tell us your biggest secret."...
