Chapter 8

I woke up the next morning in a vaguely familiar room, and I had to think for a moment before I realizing that I was at Brian and Kevin's house. Brian was laying on his side next to me, watching me I guess, 'cause his intense blue eyes were the first thing I saw when I glanced his way.

"Good morning, handsome! How did I get here, I can't even remember," I mumbled, smiling as brightly at him as I could, for being half awake.

"Good morning! You two fell asleep on us around two or so, so we brought you home with us. Nina is in another room with Nick, and it's time to get up, it's ten already," Brian pointed out, though he made no move as to following up on his suggestion.

"No, I don't think so," I said, snuggling closer to his warm, bare chest.

"I do," he said, his blue eyes distracting me, so much so that I never saw his hand moving until he slid it under my tank and started tickling me.

"Aaaahhh!" I screamed and jumped out of bed, followed by Brian. I ran down the stairs and towards the kitchen when a tall figure emerged from the door, right in front of me. Unable to stop, I ran right into Kevin, with a loud, "Ouch!" but I was laughing. Kevin pulled me out of the way just as Brian flew by.

"Thanks Train!" I said. "Hey Kris! Question for you."

"Shoot."

"Are you two going out?" His serious face was smiling for once and his eyes were sparkling, but I shook my head.

"No, not really."

"Well, whatever it is, this is the happiest that I have seen him in a long time. Keep working that magic of yours, 'cause it sure is working!" I smiled, unsure how to answer that.

"I'm gonna take a shower, before Brian comes back for me," I excused myself quickly, heading upstairs. *

I was lounging on the couch at home, not really doing much, so I flipped on the TV to see what was on.

"So Na, how's it going with Nick," I asked, half-teasing her. Her eyes took on a dreamy look, and she promptly ran into a chair in the way of wherever she was going.

"Oh man, I guess that answers that. Are you together already?" I asked, a little more serious, though still chuckling at her stupidity. Na stuck her tongue out at me, rubbing her offended shins.

"Yeah, he asked me when you were off with Brian last night. What's up with you two?"

"Well, we're not going out, it's kind of a we're friends, but...hey, is that Howie?" I cried, looking at the TV. I had stopped on MTV and it was too late to really be doing anything but videos. They were singing a cool song, called, "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)" and though I kind of flinched when I saw Kevin's long hair, I was ready to cry, because there was no doubt who they were now. Brian's blue eyes flashed on the screen and Na gasped, "Holy crap, that really is them! I can't believe they didn't tell us!"

I just stared as the VJ came on screen, announcing, "That was the hottest group in the country right now, the Backstreet Boys, in one of their older videos. The Boys just finished up their very successful American Tour in Orlando, Florida. All of their shows were sold out, and screaming fans follow them wherever they go, caught up in what is now known as BsB Mania. We got a chance to interview the guys today, live, in a press conference that started at three."

They showed a couple clips, and the last question was, "Do any of you have girlfriends?" The Boys all glanced at each other, then Kevin started, "Dating, but there's no time for a steady girlfriend," with AJ and Howie following suit.

"I am.. seeing someone," Brian said, after a slight pause, as if considering what he was saying. Nick also paused as a murmur went through the crowd.

"I have a girlfriend." The VJ came on, finishing up with, "Well, whoever the lucky ladies are, there are many fans out there for whom I'm sure this was a sad day, and many more who are thrilled that three outta five are still free. On to the other MTV news..."

"Oh my gosh, Na! Why didn't they tell us?" I cried, shocked and more than a little hurt he hadn't told me, but trying to find a logical reason that they wouldn't. *

"Hey Kev, is Brian there?" I asked, switching shoulders with the phone as I cleaned up around my room.

"Hey babes, um, no he isn't. He went off somewhere earlier. What's up?" he asked, happy to hear from her.

"Are you free? Could I come over Kevin? I need someone to talk to right now," I pleaded, trying not to sound desperate.

"No problem Kris. C'mon over, we can go to the beach or something, it's gorgeous out," Kevin suggested, wondering what was going on, and praying he wouldn't hear what he was fearing she would say.

"Hey, that's cool! I'll be over in half an hour, okay? Bye!"

"See ya!" *

Kevin was right, it was gorgeous out. We spread out a blanket in the shade, dining on turkey sandwiches, fruit, soda and cookies for dessert. Kevin looked at me, then asked slowly, "So, what was it you wanted to talk about?" I looked at him and sighed.

"There's no point in stalling, so I'll go straight to the point. I...we saw you guys on MTV last night. Why didn't you tell us who you are?" Kevin smiled, more to himself for not seeing this coming than anything else. He looked me straight in the eyes, and asked, "Well, let me ask you something. Does it change how you see us as people?"

"No."

"Then why does it matter?"

"Kevin, I feel betrayed. I had to find out from the fricking TV about you guys, something that is a major part of your life. Hell, it is your life!" I cried, in a fury. Kevin held my gaze for a moment, then started laughing.

"What are you laughing about, Train?" I demanded, startled.

"You're so cute when you're angry, blue eyes flashing...it's great!" he drawled, laughing to himself.

"Oh, bite me!" I yelled, more hurt in pride than feelings, and got up and stalked away.

"Hey, Kris, I'm sorry," Kevin called, hurrying to catch up with me. I glanced back, and I was still pissed at him, but boy, he sure did look hot in his bathing suit! He wrapped his arms around my waist, then threw me over his shoulder.

"Kevin!" I screamed, now laughing as I got a good view of his *ss, upside down. He laughed evilly, then headed for the water, saying, "Would you like to go for a swim, Kris?" I glanced up and saw Brian up at the top of the cliff.

"Wait, wait, Brian's here," I said to Kevin.

"Brian, help me!" I yelled, waving madly at him. I could tell he was laughing as he headed down from the cliff. Kevin waved and I almost tumbled to the ground.

"What's up?" Brian asked, jogging up to us. He turned his head sideways, saying, "Hey, having fun?"

"Besides the fact that all my blood is rushing to my head?" I muttered. "Put me down, Kevin, I'm not mad anymore," I pleaded.

"Okay." He put me down, gently, on my feet.

"Thank you. Hey B-Rok, what's up?"

"I got home and found Kevin's note, so I figured I'd drop by and see if you were still here."

"Yup, I was about to be dunked, thank you for coming," I said, shooting Kevin an evil look.

"Hey, you were only gonna get what you deserve for trying to pull that on me. Besides, you have a suit on," Kevin pointed out. I shot him another look, then smiled at Brian.

"Guys, I'm sorry to cut this short, but I have to go on a date...er, meet someone in an hour," I explained, picking up the remains of our picnic and hoping Brian didn't take notice of my error in choice of words.

"Hey, no problem. I had fun," Kevin replied with a wink, helping me carry our stuff up to his car. *

I rode back with Brian, but didn't bring up anything about the BsB. I hadn't really gotten anything out of Kevin, and I didn't want to upset myself or Brian right now so I just let him tell jokes and funny stories about the guys.

"Thanks for the ride, B-Rok," I said when he dropped me off to pick up my car.

"You're welcome," Brian replied, giving me a hug. He looked at me very seriously from those big blue eyes of his, and asked, "What's wrong? What happened?"

"Brian, I'll call you when I get back, I don't wanna go there now, " I explained, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek. I saw the confused look on his face as I drove off, and I felt bad for blowing him off. *
