Chapter 20
Leighanne's View
"Oh no," I said under my breath. This wasn't happening. I stopped dead in my tracks and looked at the light. I stood there for a moment not knowing what to do. Millions of thoughts ran through my head at that time. What if Sara caught me? What if she had the gun with her and she was going to shoot me? What if she was going to kill me?
I shook my head and then took off toward the house. I ran through the door and up to the table. I grabbed the keys and turned around to run back out of the house but I tripped and fell to the ground. The keys then skidded across the floor.
"Nooo," I moaned watching them skid across the floor. I heard a door slam so I jerked my head around. Sara was storming down the hallway. I jumped up from the floor and ran over to where the keys lay.
"Leighanne!? What are you doing!?" Sara screamed behind me. I picked the keys up and ran out of the house.
"LEIGHANNE!?" Sara screamed, I could hear her running through the house and then outside. I ran around the car as fast as I could but slipped on the rocks. I partially fell but regained my footing.
"WHAT IS GOING ON!?" she screamed. I swung open the door and jumped in slamming it behind me.
"The kids!!! You have the kids!" She yelled stopping in her tracks and staring wide eyed at Courtney in the window.
"MANDY!!! MANDY!!! WAKE UP!!! GET THE GUN!!!" She screamed to the house. I put the keys in the ignition and turned it. The engine started up but then all of a sudden died down. I starred wide eyed at the keys. I turned them again but the engine did the same thing.
"No, this can't be happening," I said panicking. I kept starting up the car hoping it would work but it kept dying down. I turned my head to look where Sara was, she was rushing over to the truck with Mandy in tow. Mandy had a gun in hand and was running behind Sara.
"Leighanne! Look! They're coming!" Courtney screeched pointing at the window.
"I know! Just keep calm sweetie," I said turning the keys again. When it died down again I hit the steering wheel hard. I then locked all the doors. I turned my head again and found Sara grabbing the gun out of Mandy's hands and turning it toward the car.
"Oh shit," I said under my breath. I then slammed on the gas and turned the keys once more. The engine then came to life. I sat there for a second not knowing what to do. I was in complete shock.
"Go!" Courtney screeched grabbing my sweater sleeve and tugging on it. I looked at her, then out the window to where Sara was loading the gun up. I then slammed on the gas. The care lurched forward and I sped down the dirt road to the main one below.
