Chapter 32

The Week After

Brian's View

"Nick, Tiffany won't answer the phone," I said into my cellphone as I drove through the streets.

"Does she ever?" Nick asked.

"No..."

"Then there shouldn't be anything different," Nick said.

"She's been gone for a freaking week Nick! I haven't seen her or the kids in almost 7 days! I don't know what to do," I said stopping at a red light.

"How about going to Colorado and getting her back?" Nick suggested.

"I can't do that," I said.

"Why the hell not? For God's sake Brian, you're wife's going to divorce you if you don't get your act together!" Nick said.

"I know and that scares me so damn much," I said softly.

"Then go to Colorado and make up with her!"

"It's not as easy as you make it sound..."

"What's so difficult about it? You've been married to her for what? Almost 13 years? You guys can work anything out."

"This is complicated though bro. She's never done this before."

"And that means she must be really pissed off at you Bri."

"No duh," I said.

"So she moved in with her Mom because..."

"Because I wouldn't play with the kids," I finished for him.

"That can't be all of it," Nick said.

"You're right, it's not."

"I knew it wasn't, I talked to her last night," Nick said. The light turned green and I stepped on the gas moving down the street once more.

"You did?! How is she? How are the kids? Is she mad? Was she crying?" I asked.

"Slow down. I called her Mom and Tiffany picked up. We talked and she told me what happened. She broke down crying near the end."

"Oh gosh..." I said softly.

"She said you weren't spending any time with the family at all..."

"I guess I wasn't."

"It sure sounded like you weren't spending time with them. From the way she said it, you were down in the studio 24/7. If that's true I don't really blame her for going to her Mom's."

"Yeah...that's true," I said quietly.

"Jesus Rok, what were you thinking? If I did that Darlene wouldn't even wait as long as Tiffany did. You should be lucky Tiffany didn't leave earlier. Why were you down there all that time anyway?"

"Trying to get those damn songs done. Haven't you been doing that?" I asked.

"No, I'm taking my time on them. I don't see the point on putting all that stress on myself. I've been spending a lot of time with Darlene and the kids like always."

"I feel like such an ass," I said pounding my head on the steering wheel as I stopped at another light.

"You should."

"Yeah, thanks a lot."

"Dude, Brian, I've known Tiffany for my whole life. I know her like the back of my hand. So I'm telling you now, go to Colorado and kiss and make up with her. Just talk to her and things will be fine."

"I'm going to tonight. I have my bags packed and everything," I said.

"Good, why did you wait so long anyway?" Nick asked.

"To go to Colorado?"

"Yeah, I mean I would have gone after her the first day she left."

"Because I wanted her to cool off and everything and I needed to think for a little while and plus, I'm afraid she's gonna take off her ring and throw it in my face the next time she see's me. I'm terrified of losing her Frack," I said.

"I would be terrified too but the longer you wait the more she'll think you don't care and then you actually might lose her," Nick pointed out.

"I guess you're right."

"Of course I am, I'm not dumb anymore," Nick said.

"Yeah, OK, I need to go. I'll talk to you sometime soon," I said.

"Call me when you and Tiffany work things out," he said.

"All right, I will, see ya Kaos," I said.

"Later," he said hanging up the phone. I turned the phone off and threw it in the seat next to me. I drove the rest of the way home thinking about what I was going to say to Tiffany. I was so nervous.

Tiffany's View

"Mom, has Brian called?" I asked hoping she'd say yes.

"Yes, about five times," she said looking up from the paper. I crossed my arms and sat down at the other end of the table.

"Did you answer?" I asked. She shook her head no.

"Why not?" I asked.

"Maybe because you told me not to," she said glancing at me.

"Oh yeah, I forgot," I mumbled.

"Why don't you just call him? I know you miss him," she said.

"I do Mom, I miss him a lot," I said.

"Call him for crying out loud Tiffany. It's tempting to pick up the phone when he calls. He must be so depressed."

"Don't make me feel any worse," I mumbled putting my head in my arms.

"You left him Tiffany. Do you know how much he loves you? You must have broken his heart. I've never seen someone love someone as much as Brian loves you. He'd do anything for you."

"Mommmm! You're supposed to be on my side!" I groaned.

"I would be if what you did was reasonable," she said. I looked up at her with my mouth open.

"Are you saying what I did was stupid?" I asked.

"Yes, I think what you did was stupid! He's the greatest thing that could ever happen to a woman and you're pushing him away!"

"You don't understand," I said shaking my head.

"What is there to understand? He's been busy trying to write that album..."

"Yeah don't remind me..." I mumbled.

"For you," my Mom said.

"What?" I asked confused.

"I'm not supposed to tell you. I shouldn't have said anything," she said.

"No, Mom what did you say?" I asked. She looked at me and said, "Don't tell Brian, OK? It was supposed to be a surprise."

"All right, I won't."

"Tiffany, that album that he has been working on...is for you."

"It's for me?" I asked shocked.

"It's for you and the rest of the wives," she nodded.

"Oh my...I had no idea."

"Neither did I until he told me. He was very excited about how you would react when he sang you one of his songs that he wrote for you. 6 of the songs he wrote are just for you, you know."

"They are?" I asked.

"Yes," she nodded. "He had everything planned...I'm not going to ruin anything because it might still happen."

I just stared at her. Brian's been working so hard on that album because he wanted it to be perfect. He wanted it to be special. I remember him coming home from the meeting he had with the guys about the album. He was so excited and just kept saying it was going to be the greatest album ever and that it was going to be real special. I just thought it would be like any of the other albums and now that I know it's not...I feel even more terrible.

"Mom...when Brian calls again...answer it," I said. She smiled at me and nodded. I then got up and left the room to go to my room. I needed to think things over and work things out. I'm just hoping I didn't hurt Brian as much as my Mom was implying. If I did hurt him that much and maybe even more, I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
