Chapter 46

Nick's View

Darlene and I were headed over to Brian and Tiffany's right now. I needed to talk to Tiffany. What is wrong with her? She's nuts, completely insane! How can she just break up with Bri? I don't get it.

"I can't believe she broke up with him!" Darlene said still in shock. I just told her this morning what happened and now she's going hysterical.

"She's insane!" she yelled.

"Calm down! There has to be an explanation for this."

"She's so stupid! She was engaged to him for crying out loud!"

"Yeah I know," I mumbled.

"I don't understand!"

"Save the yelling for when we get there," I said.

"OK," she sighed. I soon pulled up to the house and parked the car. Darlene got out and rushed to the door.

"Hey, you have to help me get the kids out!" I said. She stopped and turned around.

"OH!" she said and came back over. She opened the back door and started to get Christian out. I got Michelle out and carried her to the door.

"I wanna ring the doorbell!" she said.

"OK," I smiled. Poor Michelle and Christian. They have no clue as to what's going on. Darlene came up behind me and waited impatiently. Finally the door slowly opened. I saw Brian with red puffy eyes and a pale face.

"Oh hey," he slightly smiled.

"Hi, can we come in?" I asked.

"Of course. You do have my children," he said. I smiled and walked past him. Darlene followed right behind me. I looked up and saw Tiffany walking down the stairs. Brian backed up a little bit and looked down at the floor.

"Daddy! Daddy!" Michelle said jumping up and down.

"What?" he smiled as he picked her up. Tiffany just looked the other way and picked Christian out of Darlene's arms. Darlene looked from Brian to Tiffany and then grabbed Tiffany's arm and dragged her towards the kitchen.

Darlene's View

"OW! Darlene!" Tiffany yelled and yanked her arm away from my grasp. She still had Christian in her arms. She set him down on the floor and looked up at me.

"What is wrong with you!? Are you completely nuts!?" I yelled.

"What are you talking about?"

"What am I talking about!? HELLO! You broke up with Brian!"

"Yeah I know," she mumbled.

"Why?" I asked sitting down at the table. She sat down next to me and sighed.

"I just feel like we've grown so far apart."

"Why is that?"

"We always fight."

"That's normal, I fight with Nick."

"It's not the same Darlene! We fight nonstop!"

"It can't be that bad."

"NOT BAD!? Darlene I hate every minute when we're fighting! I can't take it! I'm so sick and tired of fighting with him!"

"Tiffany, if you really love him than you would try to work it out. It's only a little bump in the relationship. You didn't have to break up with him," I said.

"That's the thing Darlene. I don't think I love him anymore," she said softly. My eyes went wide at that. Nick didn't tell me she said that!

"You don't love Brian anymore!? You two were engaged!"

"I know!"

"I don't get it Tiffany. You guys just got back together like two days ago and you said you loved him."

"I know Darlene! I..." she paused. "I just think that we need some time away from each other."

"Brian sure doesn't think so. He's really upset Tiffany."

"I know, I could hear him cry all last night. I feel horrible but I just think it would be best for the both of us," she said softly. She bent down and picked up Christian and put him in her lap. She started to play with his curls on his head.

"He looks so much like Brian."

"It's scary isn't it?" she said smiling.

"Yeah it actually kinda is," I laughed.

"So how's the baby?" she asked me.

"Fine, any day now."

"Yeah I know! I can't wait!"

"Me neither! I just want it out of me!" I laughed. She just laughed with me.

Nick's View

Brian put Michelle down and walked into the living room. He sat down on the couch and put his head in his hands. I walked over and sat down next to him.

"Are you OK?"

"No," he mumbled.

"I'm so sorry," I said.

"I don't want to lose her. I was just frustrated. I didn't mean to yell at her like that. I couldn't control myself. It's all my fault."

"It's not your fault," I said quietly. He looked at me with tear filled eyes.

"Yes it is! She's right! I have changed! I always yell at her and bug her when she didn't do anything! I was a bad boyfriend and that's why she broke up with me! It's all my fault!"

"I don't know what to say. This is so sudden."

"Tell me about it I mean we were getting married! Keyword there, WERE!"

"I'm so so sorry."

He shook his head and then said, "She even gave back the rings I gave her. We really are over. She's really serious about this. It didn't really bother me that much when she said she wanted to break up because I thought she was just upset and that she would come around but then when I asked her if she still loved me...she usually would answer right away but when she opened her mouth to say something she just closed her mouth and looked at me sadly. I never expected her to say that she didn't love me anymore. Do you know how much that hurts?"

"Yeah I do," I said softly.

"You do?" he asked looking at me.

"Yes, it sucks to love somebody that doesn't love you back. I went through it," I said. Brian looked down and then back up at me.

"Are you talking about Tiffany?"

"No, I'm talking about Mandy of course I'm talking about Tiffany."

"I'm sorry, I never knew how you felt but now I do. It sucks, it's like living in hell."

"I know," I mumbled.

"What am I going to do?"

"I don't know Bri, I really don't know."

"Um...Bri?" we heard behind us. We turned around and found Darlene standing there.

"Yeah?"

"Can we talk?"

"Sure," he said.

"OK, Nick can you go in the kitchen? Tiffany's waiting for you. I wanted to talk to Brian so I figured you could talk to her."

"OK," I said getting up. I walked over to the kitchen and walked in. Tiffany was sitting at the table playing with Christian's hair.

"Hi," I slightly smiled. She looked at me and smiled.

"Hi"

"Wanna talk?"

"Sure," she said. I sat down next to her and then sighed.

"Why did you break up with Brian?"

"Nick do we really have to talk about this?"

"Yes we do, now why did you break up with him?"

"Because I am sick and tired of us fighting. I just think we need some time away from each other."

"Brian told me that you didn't love him anymore."

"He did?"

"Yeah he called me last night. He was real upset, he is real upset."

"I noticed."

"Don't you care?"

"Of course I care! That's why I broke up with him."

"I'm confused."

"I just figured that if I broke it off then we would save ourselves from fighting again."

"I don't understand you sometimes. That doesn't make sense to me. If you really loved him you would try to work in out between you two and don't give me that crap about you not loving him because I know you do."

"How do you know? You can't read minds," she said.

"So? Tiffany I've known you my entire life and I know that you still love him."

"I...I..." she began but paused.

"Admit it," I said. She looked up and me and then stood up with Christian in her arms and said, "No, I don't love him anymore. I'm never going to love him again and that's final."

She then walked out of the room. I can't believe her. She tried so hard to make it sound like she was telling the truth. I would have believed her but I know her too well. This is so sad as to what is happening but the saddest part is she lied about everything she said.
