Prologue
I watched Brian pick up the letter I'd left him, and my heart shattered, just as his did, when he started crying. Knowing I would give up my resolve if I stayed any longer, I turned and quietly ran out to my car and drove off into the night. I tried to tell myself that I was doing the right thing as tears fell down my cheeks. I looked up at the sky and saw a falling star, so much like the one I'd seen that fateful night I'd first met Brian, and changed my life forever. I murmured, "I'll be back baby, I promise. My shooting star that I prayed and wished for." "Star light, star bright, first star I see tonight, I wish I may, I wish I might, get this wish I wish tonight." *
