Chapter 5

I opened the door of the studio and stepped inside. Through the giant glass window I could see Deb and Stacie singing their hearts out. I could hear them as well, and they sounded great! They definitely had talent. Only one thing troubled me. I couldn’t tell them I’d met Brian! Deb would totally flip. She’s been "in love" with him since high school. This sucks! Something exciting finally happens in my life and I can’t share it with anyone!

At that moment I saw Deb and Stacie remove their headphones and exit the sound booth. "You were great!" I said as they both smiled. I looked at my watch. It was noon and I was hungry. "What do you say we go out for lunch?" Both accepted the offer eagerly.

Walking down the hall I trailed behind a bit while Stacie and Deb walked ahead talking excitedly. I can’t decide what to do. I have to keep my promises, but it’s so tempting to tell them, and if they ever found out that I had met a Backstreet Boy and didn’t tell them they’d kill me! I think I’d better keep quiet for now though.

I was completely lost in my own thoughts when I heard, "Yo! Meliss, ya comin’?" I then realized I had stopped walking.

"Yeah!" I shouted back, and ran down the hall to catch up.

"What’s the matter? Are you OK?" Deb asked concerned.

"I’m alright. I was just thinking." Thank G-d they didn’t push that one any further or I would have broken down right there, and broken a promise at record speed.

We all walked out the door of the studio and stopped and blinked a few times. After the darkened studio the daylight was really bright. Once we adjusted we all piled into the car with me in the driver’s seat, which was probably because I still had the keys.

"So where are we going?" I questioned. They both just stared at me. "I offered to take you to lunch, but I’ve never been to Orlando before, except Disney World, so you have to tell me where to go and how to get there," I said slowly and deliberately. Now they understood.

"How about the Broadway CafE9?" Stacie said. "It’s one of those ‘anything goes’ places where you can get whatever you want, but the food is still really good."

"Sounds good to me!" both Deb and I said in unison. We just smiled, knowing we did that way too often.

Stacie gave me directions and we got there in about 15 minutes. The restaurant was really tiny, but nice, and the food was great!

At 2pm we stepped out of the air-conditioned restaurant into the hot July day. "Where should we go now? Any ideas?" Stacie and Deb just grinned devilishly. Uh oh……………….
