Chapter 7

"I bet you and Brian would make an adorable couple," Megan mused, blowing on her fingernails.

"Could you not do that in here?" Tia requested. "It smells."

"Don't avoid the subject, Tee." Megan grinned knowingly at Tia.

"For now we're just really good friends."

"For now," Megan repeated under her breath. "The key words."

"Well?" Tia said. "What happens when I die?"

"You'll die in your sleep when your eighty years old, next to Brian when he's, like, what? 86?"

"I was leaning towards 90," Tia muttered.

Megan laughed. "You get the point, then."

"I get the point, Meg." Tia waved her hand at Megan. "That's really strong, you know that?"

"Yeah," Megan said lightly. "I know that. Nail polish usually is strong, Tia."

"You know what I mean," Tia said.

"I want to visit you, though, and I also need to do my nails. So why not kill two birds with one stone?"

"Oh, I don't know, because it's bad to kill birds?" Tia joked.

"You are such a goof, Tia," Megan said, shaking her head. "But I love you."

Tia pointed at the nail polish bottle and raised an eyebrow. Sighing, Megan screwed the cap on the bottle and tossed it in her purse.

"You win," she relented. "I was done anyway."

"I can still smell it."

"Did I say I love you? I was wrong. I meant-"

"Yeah, yeah, I know. You dislike me, right?"

"You always say it first. Let me finish for once," Megan complained.

Tia just laughed. Silence ensued. Soon Tia was lost in her thoughts. It had been a couple of weeks since that day with Brian when he sang to her, and still she smiled when she thought about it. He was such a charmer. The feelings Tia had when she was with him were unreal. She felt happy, excited, alive. She wasn't herself with him, she changed into someone who only came out when he was around. That person was always smiling, always grinning, always laughing, always confident.

And there was that simple fact that although everyone else seemed to see something, Brian and Tia were merely two people lost in a close friendship. If Brian felt anything, he chose not to say anything. And if Tia had any feelings for Brian, she kept it inside. It was secretive, suspicious, and stubborn, but it was so totally like them.

They made a perfect couple. And everyone but them could see it.
