Chapter 1
Danielle's View
I ran up the stairs as fast as I could and flew open my door. I ran and jumped on my bed picking up my phone and dialing my friend Darlene's number. It rang a few times and finally someone picked up.
"Hello?" I heard Darlene's voice on the other end.
"Darlene! My Mom said she'll let us go up to New York for the contest thing!" I said excitedly.
"Oh my gosh! Are you serious?" she asked in shock.
"No, I just made all of this up...of course I'm serious! Call Colleen for me and tell your Mom."
"All right I will."
"OK, Call me later," I said.
"Okie dokie...bye girl!"
"Bye!" I said and then hung up the phone. I smiled to myself and then rolled out of my bed walking out of my room. I guess I should tell you who I am. My name is Danielle Anderson. I'm 16 years old going on 17 pretty soon and I live in Denver, Colorado. I'm about 5'5, 117 pounds, blonde hair that is cut up to my shoulders and layered in the front, I have blue eyes, and I have a pretty nice tan for living in Colorado and all. All my friends say I have a great figure and that I should be proud of it but I'm not that proud of it. Boys sure notice me a lot and that's not always a good thing. I mean a lot of guys are pigs you know what I mean?
Anyway...I'm in the 10th grade almost 11th and I get pretty good grades. OK, I get straight A's but I'm not a nerd or anything. I'm actually quite popular but I don't act stuck up or anything. I have a lot of friends and that would be because of my personality, or so my friends say. I'm a funny, caring, outgoing, kind person and I'm not afraid to speak my mind. People say I'm really easy to talk to so that's why I have so many friends.
Speaking of friends, my best friends are Darlene and Colleen. I've known them ever since I think the 1st grade. It's been a long time and we are really close. Darlene is about 5'4 (the short one out of all of us), she has long brown hair, and brown eyes. She has a nice figure and she's really pretty. Colleen is about 5'6 or 7 (the tall one out of all of us), she has brown hair that's layered to her shoulders and she has brown eyes. She has a nice small figure and she's really pretty also. Darlene and Colleen are the ones that I can always turn to for everything. They help me out in times of need and I help them out when I'm needed. We're pretty much like family and we will tell each other anything.
I have a fairly large family. I have 1 sister and 3 brothers. Lucky me! I'm the youngest out of all of them. My sister Valerie is 24, she's the oldest. Next is my brother Joey, he's 21, then there's Mark who is 19, and then my other brother Michael who is 18. I get picked on a lot since I'm the youngest and plus 3 brothers sure doesn't help me any but they are pretty protective. Most of my boyfriends get little talks saying how they will not hurt me or they're dead. You would think my dad, Ray, would do that. He is protective of me since I'm his baby but my brothers usually take care of everything. My mother, Cindy, is so awesome. She barely has any rules for any of us. We are free to do what we want. She feels that teenagers should be free to do what they please. Of course it can't be anything illegal. I guess you could say that my family is great. I don't have many problems with them.
I am probably the biggest Backstreet Boys fan around. I have posters all over my room and I have all their CD's and everything! Darlene, Colleen and I all love the Backstreet Boys to death. We haven't met them yet but hopefully we will soon. I'm going to make it happen. My favorite Backstreet Boy is Brian. Oh he is so fine! He has the greatest voice! He's going out with this one girl named Elizabeth and I've heard that she's really nice. I don't hate her at all. I'm real happy for them. As long as Brian is happy, I'm happy. Darlene and Colleen fight a whole lot of Nick. Nick is their favorite Backstreet Boy. He's OK to me but nothing compared to Brian. They can fight all they want over Nick...I could really care less. As long as they don't fight over Brian with me. If that ever did happen I would of course win!
Oh before I forget...I'm not single so I'm not like going to stalk Brian to go out with me. I have a boyfriend and we've been going out since the 7th grade. His name is Jason McNeal and I'm so in love with him. It's been 3 years since we started to go out and I don't regret anything. I care for him deeply and I really think we will have a future together. He's 5'7, blonde spiky hair, and sparkling blue eyes. He's a real hottie. We used to be really good friends before we started going out so it's not like we didn't know each other before. Everyone I come across tells me how lucky I am to have him. I guess I am lucky because I have a great guy that loves me. What can get any better than that?
Now you might be wondering about what the whole contest in New York thing is. MTV is doing this contest where the Backstreet Boys will be in the studio and hand picked people outside will get to go up and sit in the same room with them and each of us write our names on a piece of paper and put it in this little bucket thing. Then one of the guys picks out one piece of paper and whoever is on it gets to go on their world tour and you can be accompanied by 2 or 3 friends. I wasn't going to pass this opportunity up. I mean I should at least try to win the contest and if I did I would actually get to meet the Backstreet Boys. I'm not a teenybopper so I wouldn't like scream in their ears and jump on them but I would be happy enough to maybe faint or something. Going on tour with the Backstreet Boys would be so great and I would do anything for the chance to actually do that.
I walked in the kitchen and saw my Mom cooking something on the stove.
"Hey Mom," I said happily sitting down at the kitchen table.
"Oh hey Danielle...did you call Darlene and Colleen?" she asked turning to face me for a minute.
"I called Darlene and she's really excited about it and I asked her to call Colleen."
"Do you think they'll let them go with you?" she asked turning back to the stove.
"Yeah I think so and if they say no you can just try to persuade them to let them go," I smiled. She lightly laughed and said, "I don't think that'll work."
"Why not?"
She turned and looked at me. I stuck out my bottom lip and gave her a puppy dog face.
"OK, if they say no I'll talk to them!"
"Thank you!" I said happily.
"So anyway...how are you and Jason? I haven't seen him in a while," she said.
"Oh he's doing OK...he's just been busy with football. He's been real tired lately."
"Aww...well that's what you get for being the star quarterback."
I sighed and said, "I guess so. Hey I'm gonna go do my homework now."
"All right baby," she smiled at me. I smiled back at her and got up and walked up the stairs and into my room. I laid on my bed and looked up at the ceiling thinking about how much I wanted to win that contest. You never know what will happen and I have a good feeling about this.
