Chapter 17
Danielle's View
"That was fun now wasn't it?" I said with a big smile on my face as I moved into the front next to Brian. He looked over at me and smiled.
"Yeah that was pretty fun," he said.
"Where are we headed?" I asked looking out the window.
"We're going to go get some Wendy's then some Dairy Queen and head over to the carnival," he smiled at me. I smiled back and said, "This is gonna be so fun! Thanks for doing this."
"You're welcome, I want to do it anyway, I like doing stuff with you," he said. I smiled and bit my lip. I got done tying my shoe and then looked over at him. He had his glasses and hat on. He didn't look any different. If anything, he looked even cuter.
"Nice glasses," I said. He looked over at me and smiled. "I know, they make me look sexy huh?"
I laughed and said, "Oh yes! Soooo dead sexy!"
"You know it," he laughed.
"How are you and Beth doing?" I asked. He turned a corner and pulled into the drive through of Wendy's.
"We're doing good," he said. He didn't seem too enthusiastic when saying that.
"Is something wrong? Did you two get in a fight?" I asked. He shook his head and then looked out the window. He then looked over at me and smiled, "Everything's fine."
I nodded my head and said, "Glad to hear it."
He looked at me and nodded. He ordered our food and we headed over to the arena where a carnival was going on. He parked the car and then turned to me.
"Wanna eat before we go in?" he asked.
"Duh, I'm not gonna walk around in there carrying fries and a burger," I laughed.
"You would do it," he said taking the bag of food away from me and taking out his fries.
"I would not! I'm not that weird! You're the one that would spill ketchup on some poor old lady."
"I wouldn't do that," he said popping some fries in his mouth. I grabbed the bag and took out my lunch. For the next few minutes we just sat there in silence only hearing the sound of munching. Outside of the car kids and parents passed with balloons and cotton candy in hand, smiling and laughing. I then turned to Brian and saw him looking at me. He quickly looked down. I didn't mention anything to him.
"Ready to go?" I asked. He nodded his head and collected the trash.
"Lets go," he said getting out of the car and shutting the door behind him. I got out and grabbed my gray Old Navy sweater and walked over in front of the car where Brian was waiting. He extended his arm and said, "This way me lady."
I hooked arms with him and giggled.
"It's a lovely day isn't it?" he said in an English accent.
"You are so weird," I laughed.
"And you are so beauti..." he said but stopped realizing what he was saying. I looked down blushing slightly.
"Sorry," he said quietly looking at me. "It's OK."
"You could officially declare that my most embarrassing moment of the day."
"By the end of the day I'll probably end up spilling mustard all over my shirt so you have nothing to worry about," I said. He smiled at me as we approached the entrance. He threw the trash away and opened the door for me. Inside the venue, kids were running around giggling and screaming in delight. Couples were walking hand in hand with stuffed animals in their arms. Clowns were running around and making balloons for children and hot dog stands, ice cream stands, cotton candy stands, pop corn stands, anything you name they had it, were scattered all over the place.
"Pretty busy place huh?" he asked. I nodded and looked up at him. He was putting his hat over his head.
"I hate how I have to wear this," he mumbled.
"It looks good."
"Of course it looks good! I look good in everything!" he joked. I laughed and then began walking through the crowd of people.
"Do they have rides here?" I asked turning to Brian.
"Yeah I think they have a Ferris wheel and some other rides. They have a lot of games too," he said.
"Oh goodie!"
"What do you wanna do first?" he asked.
"It doesn't matter to me," I shrugged.
"Well...in that case lets go shoot some hoops!" he said grabbing my hand and dragging me down the stairs and over to the basketball court.
"Now you just stand right here while I go win one of those freaky looking stuffed animals," he said. I just looked at him oddly as he walked over to the person who ran the basketball court. They chatted for a while and then Brian gave him some money. As I looked at Brian I couldn't help but get that certain feeling in my stomach that I always got when I looked at Jason. This feeling was greater though and it felt nice. I knew I liked Brian, I have liked him. I couldn't stop that from happening at all but now I think my liking for him was growing. It was growing every time I saw him, every time I talked to him, every time I heard his voice, every time I saw his beautiful eyes, every time I heard him sing, every time I heard him laugh, and every time I saw that smile...that one smile that could melt your heart in an instant.
He picked up a basketball and the guy that ran the game started the clock from 1 minute. Brian started to shoot baskets missing one once in a while. When the buzzer went off he had 14 baskets. I walked over to him and said, "You're pretty good."
"I know I am," he smiled.
"Pick from any of those animals up there," the guy said pointing to the large stuffed animals.
"He gets to pick one of THOSE? Those are huge! He did that good?" I asked. The guy nodded his head and Brian laughed at my reaction.
"Which one do you want?" he asked. I looked at him surprised.
"What?"
"Which stuffed animal do you want?" he repeated looking at me.
"What stuffed animal do I want?" I asked looking at him.
"Yes! Do I have to say it again?" he laughed.
"But wouldn't you want to give it to Beth or something?" I asked. He shook his head.
"Why not?" I asked.
"She has enough and plus this is our day to spend together," he said. "Now which one do you want?"
I looked up at the all the large stuffed animals and pointed out one in the corner.
"He's cute!" Brian laughed pointing to the stuffed animal for the guy to get. The man handed it to Brian and he handed it over to me.
"There ya go Sis," he smiled at me.
"Thank you," I said.
"You sure love basset hounds don't you?" he asked as we walked away from the basketball court. I looked down at my large basset hound stuffed animal and smiled.
"Yeah I do, I mean look at this!" I exclaimed stuffing the dogs face into Brian's.
"Isn't it cute!? I mean my goodness, it's so chubby!" I grinned. Brian looked at me weirdly then laughed.
"You are so odd sometimes," he said. I just stuck my tongue out at him.
"Where to now little lady?" he asked wrapping his arm around my shoulder.
"Hmm...how about the Ferris wheel?" I asked looking up at it.
"Sure, lets go," he said taking my hand. For the rest of the afternoon we just played games and rode on a few of the rides. Brian even won me two more stuffed animals. He won me a stuffed kitty at the balloon popping station and then a baby chick at the basketball court. He wanted to go to the basketball court again before he left and I kept talking so he didn't do as well but at least he won me a stuffed animal. Right now we were in the car heading back to the hotel. We were quiet but there was the sound of soft music in the background, it was Boys To Men 'I'll make love to you.' It was dark out and lights flashed through the window as we passed the street lights.
"Thank you for taking me out today," I said looking at Brian. He looked over at me and smiled, "It was fun. We gotta do stuff like this more often."
"That would be nice," I smiled. He just grinned at me.
"You know Danielle...Jason is a very lucky guy," he said softly.
"What do you mean?" I asked. He looked over at me and then looked back out the windshield.
"You're just so fun to be around. You're so funny and happy. You guys must do tons of stuff together all the time. See, Elizabeth and I haven't done anything like this in a while. I almost forgot how much fun a carnival was. It's like our relationship took all the friendship out of everything and we just became lovers. In order for us to work out we have to have that friendship part and not just the lover part, you know what I mean?" he asked. I just nodded my head.
"You and Jason have both of that though..." he said. I nodded my head again and looked down.
"You two must have so much fun together and do all kinds of things. I'm happy that you have someone that you can do those things with all the time," he said looking at me. I looked up at him and he slightly smiled. I just nodded my head and looked out the window.
He wasn't completely right on what he said about Jason and I. Sure, Jason and I do things together but to be honest, it wasn't as much fun as when I was with Brian. I haven't had this much fun in so long and the whole time I couldn't get my mind off of how well Brian and I clicked. Jason and I click and everything...but it's just not the same. I love Jason and we do have a good relationship but what Brian said about if you don't have a friendship in your relationship and just being lovers things don't work out...it made me think. Jason and I weren't really being friends anymore, just more like lovers. That scared me because I thought our relationship was perfect but nothing's perfect. Like I said many times before, I love Jason but...today something just clicked in my mind and things became clear, I had fell...fell hard in love...with Brian.
