Chapter 21
Danielle's View
About 15 Minutes Later
"OK, I give up!" Brian breathed heavily. "Here have it!"
I smiled and took it out of his hands and jumped off his back.
"Thank you!" I said and then sat on a bench. He sat next to me and stuck out his bottom lip, "Can I have a little bit of it?"
I smiled and broke off a piece and gave it to him.
"Thanks Dani," he said taking a bite of it.
"Hey kids, what are you doing? I just got done talking to Lenny and Ray and I heard you two had one big wrestling match...over a candy bar," Elizabeth said coming up to us with a couple shopping bags in hand.
We looked up at her and Brian said, "OK, first off, who you calling a kid? And second...it wasn't just a candy bar...it was an evil demon I was trying to get rid of so Danielle here would be safe!"
Elizabeth laughed and took her hotel key out of her pocket.
"You are so weird sometimes you know that?" she said.
"But you love me anyway," Brian smiled. Elizabeth bent down, kissed Brian on the cheek, and said, "You know it."
"I'll leave you two alone," I said starting to get up off the bench. Brian grabbed my arm and pulled me back down.
"Why leave us alone? We aren't doing anything!"
"Yet," I said.
Elizabeth laughed lightly and then entered her hotel room. A few moments later she came back out and sat on the bench with us.
"What did you do today?" I asked her.
"Went shopping with AJ after the radio interview. I got the cutest dress!" she smiled.
"Ya got enough dresses already don't you think?" Brian said.
"Well...yeah but it's nice to get a new dress once in a while," she said. Brian just nodded.
"MAIL! I GOT MAIL!" Nick yelled rushing off the elevator and down the hall. He stopped in front of us and started to hand out mail.
"Bri...Beth...Dani...Dani...Bri...Bri...Bri...Bri...Bri...Beth...annndddd, wow! Dani you got one big package!" Nick said handing me my mail and a large box.
"Thanks Nickers," I said.
"You are the only one that would get away with saying that," Nick said.
I smiled up at him and then looked at my mail. I had a letter from my Mom, a letter from my friend Katie, and the box was from Jason. Nick then saw Kevin and ran down the hall to give him his mail.
"What's in the box?" Brian asked. I shrugged and said, "I don't know."
"Open it!" he said.
"Give her a break. Maybe she wants to read her other mail first," Elizabeth said.
"Maybe it's a late birthday present..." Brian smiled.
"My birthday was 3 days ago and I already got my present from Jason," I said. I finally turned 17, 3 days ago! Exactly on February 10th. It was pretty cool to spend it with the guys. They threw a party for me and it was a total blast! I got the coolest birthday presents too. AJ gave me some cute clothes, Darlene helped him out with what I liked. Howie gave me a dozen roses and some earrings. Kevin gave me a keyboard...can you believe that? I usually fiddle around with his so I guess he got tired of it and got me my own! Nick gave me some video games and a playstation. He also gave me some stuffed animals. Darlene, Colleen, Sophia, and Elizabeth teamed up and gave me some massage certificates where we are all going to go together and get a make over and everything. It sounds real fun! As for Brian, I think I liked his present the most. He gave me a necklace with a cross on it that says "Forever." He has a necklace exactly like it that says "Friends." It really meant a lot to me that he bought something like that. It just tells me that he really loves being friends with me and that we'll be friends forever. We were even wearing them right now. But the necklaces weren't it...you know how much I love basset hounds? Well he does and guess what he got me? He got me a baby basset hound! It's a girl and her name is Maggie. I love her to pieces. She's so adorable! She's in my room right now sleeping. That's all she really has been doing lately.
"Well then open it up and see what it is! It's not even mine and I'm excited!" Brian smiled. I laughed lightly and ripped the tape off the box. I opened it and looked inside.
"Woah! He must love you a lot girl," Elizabeth said taking a peak inside the box. I looked at her and then at Brian. Brian was looking inside and moving things around.
"He sure got you a lot of stuff..." he said.
"Yeah," I said.
"It's for Valentine's Day isn't it?" Elizabeth asked. I just nodded my head. I didn't expect him to get me this much stuff. I sent him a new gold and silver necklace and some balloons but nothing like this.
"Are you just going to sit there and stare at it? Take it out!" Brian said. I reached in and took out 2 large boxes of chocolates, a gold rose (a rose dipped in gold), 2 velvet boxes, a stuffed teddy bear holding a heart that says 'I Love You,' and a heart shaped velvet pillow with "Jason + Danielle = Love Forever" inscribed into it.
"Oh my gosh! How sweet!" Elizabeth exclaimed taking the pillow and teddy bear. She then smacked Brian.
"Ow! Why did you do that?" he asked rubbing his arm.
"You don't do stuff like this for me," she said.
"Point?" he said. She just smacked him again. I laughed lightly and set the candy aside and picked up the two velvet boxes. I opened the long one first and inside was a necklace with a heart hanging from it. It had red gems surrounding it. Earrings also came with it.
"Oh how pretty!" Elizabeth gushed.
"What's in the other box?" Brian asked. He didn't seem to thrilled with all of this. I wonder what he was going to get Elizabeth. Valentine's Day is tomorrow.
"Wait, this might go with it," he said taking out an envelope and handing it to me. I took it and opened it up. It was a letter.
"Read it out loud! Come on girl," Elizabeth pushed. I then started to read.
Hey Sweetie,
How are you doing? I hope you're good. I'm doing good but I miss you to death! Nothing has really been going on lately. My Mom and Dad say Hi and I talked to your parents and they hope everything's going good. I'm sorry I couldn't be there for Valentine's Day and for our Anniversary. Everything in the box is for both. I hope you like it. I know it might be a little much but I think you deserve it. I hope you read this first before you opened the small blue velvet box. I wanted to tell you something before you open it. It's a surprise and I don't want you to freak out on me when you do open it. You know I love you right? I love you always and forever and nothing will change that. You're everything to me and you always will be. I've been thinking a lot lately about us and I've decided to ask you something. Now before I do I just want you to know that I thought about this a lot and I know we're still young and everything but I really think that it's a good idea. So...Right now...open the box.
I starred at the letter for a moment getting nervous. What was he talking about?
"Well..."
I looked up at Brian and found him staring at me intently. He wasn't smiling at all.
"Well, what?" I asked.
"Aren't you going to open the box?" he asked. I looked at him and then down at the box. I shifted in my seat so I could get comfortable and then I picked up the box. I took a deep breath and opened the lid slowly. A small piece of paper slid out of the box and landed upside down on my lap. I set the open box to my side without looking inside and picked up the piece of paper. I flipped it over and read over it silently. My mouth dropped open and the piece of paper fell out of my hands.
"What is it?" Brian asked. I just sat there starring at what was in the box and then back at the piece of paper that was laying on my lap. Brian reached over and took the piece of paper. He read it quickly and got wide eyed.
"Oh my gosh," Elizabeth said. I just sat there, not knowing what to say or what to do. I could do three things....squeal out in happiness or scream out in horror...or just act shocked. I was just acting shocked. You see, the piece of paper that was in that box...the box containing the most beautiful ring that I have ever seen...had 4 words that just totally made my world come to a screeching hault...those 4 words being, "Will you marry me?"
