Chapter 12

"Hey guys!" I yelled walking into Amy's house. She was having a party for everyone on the crew. We had finished my last show just a few hours ago and I was extremely tired. Pink's song, 'There You Go' came on and Todd grabbed my arm and dragged me onto the dance floor. I began singing the song and making funny facial expressions causing Todd to laugh hysterically.

~The Next Day~

I walked through the aisles of the super market looking for some snack my brother wrote down on the list. I had offered to go grocery shopping for my mom so she could stay home and rest. I began humming a song and finally found the snacks he wanted. I turned the corner and my cart ran into someone else's cart. "Damn." I said quietly. I picked up some of the groceries that had fallen from a nearby shelf and I immediately began apologizing without looking at the person I hit.

"Lindsay?" I heard a familiar voice.

"Brian?" I asked standing up and looking into the blue eyes that could only belong to Brian Littrell.

After talking for a few minutes in the check out line, I walked out with him towards my car. He only had a few bags of snacks for the guys, so he helped me get all my groceries into the car. "Linds, I'm having a barbecue tomorrow. It would be great if you could make it. You could hang out with LeighAnne. She's been dying to talk to you." Brian said wiggling his eyebrows at me. I laughed and gave in.

~Barbecue At Brian's~1 PM~

I rang the doorbell and then noticed a little note that read, 'The party's in the back. Use the gate.' I sighed and walked around his house until I heard music and then I saw the tall wooden gate in front of me. I knocked on the gate and readjusted my sunglasses. The gate opened and AJ was standing there. "Linds!" He said loudly and pulled me into a hug. I had made nacho dip and AJ wasn't helping me keep a good grip on it.

"AJ...air." I said and AJ released me. His hair was now a turquoise color. "I'm digging the 'do." I said touching his hair. He smiled and led me into the backyard. Everyone was scattered around. Some people were hanging around the pool while others were around the food.

"Hey, you guys look like twins." Kevin said coming over to me and hugging me. AJ and I looked at each other. We both had the hair and the shades. Cool. "How's it going, Linds?" He asked and gave me a kiss on the cheek.

"Pretty good." I said and thought of how Kevin said we looked like twins. I remember when the guys used to think Nick and I were like twins. I sighed and walked towards the grill where I found Howie and Brian. "Hey B." I said walking towards him. I went to hug him, but he backed up and pointed at his apron. I read it, 'kiss the cook'. I laughed as he turned his head so I could kiss his cheek.

"Oooohhh, you brought something. Leigh's in the kitchen, she'll take care of it." He said and resumed his grilling. I gave Howie a hug and walked into the kitchen.

"LeighAnne?" I asked walking towards a woman standing over the sink.

She whipped her head around and dried off her hands.

"Lindsay, it's good to see you again." She said and hugged me. My, was she friendly. "Oooohhh...dip. Just what we need. Thanks." She said taking the dip out of my hands and placing it into the refrigerator.

"I'll be back in a sec. Just need to use the bathroom." I said excusing myself. I walked out of the kitchen and into the living room to see Nick watching t.v. "What are you doing in here by yourself?" I asked.

"Oh, hi Lindsay. Just don't want to be outside yet." He said not really looking away from the t.v.

"When I come back here, you better be outside." I said walking past him and into the bathroom. I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror. Nick was looking good. He had just gotten a haircut. I used to love his hair after it was just cut. I did my business and walked into the living to see Nick again. I walked over to the t.v., turned it off, and approached him. I grabbed his hands and tried lifting him. I began to struggle and started making funny faces. He laughed and stood up for me. "Can I have a hug?" I asked quietly. He opened his arms and I wrapped mine around him tightly. I've always loved hugging him. He had these strong arms that fit perfectly around me. "C'mon." I said and grabbed his hand dragging him outside. We walked past LeighAnne and I saw her smile and wink at Nick.

By the end of the night Nick and I were best friends again. Of course it was a little awkward considering he caught me staring at him a few times. I couldn't help it. Once again my urges took over and I had to touch Nick's hair. All of a sudden I reached up and ran my hands through his blonde hair. "What are you doing?" He asked looking up at what I was doing and raising his eyebrows.

"I love your hair like this." I said and removed my hands from his hair. Now it was all messed up. He fixed it a little and then I yawned.

"Tired?" He asked. I nodded. "Let's go home." Nick said taking my hand and helping me off the concrete surrounding the pool. We walked towards Brian with our hands still locked. "We're leaving, Frick." Brian glanced at our hands and raised his eyebrow.

"Alrighty then." He said in his Jim Carrey voice. I cracked a smile and let go of Nick to give Brian a hug.

"Thanks for everything, B." I said and kissed his cheek again.

"No prob, come back anytime, Linds." Brian said. I left Nick and

Brian and searched for LeighAnne. We had a long talk earlier that day and she was a really nice person even though she's quite a bit older than me.

~Next Day~ 2PM~

"I turn to you. For the strength to be strong, for the will to carry on. For everything you do, for everything that's true, I turn to you..." I sang as I changed into my jogging clothes. I pulled up my wind pants and tied my hair up into a ponytail. I walked down the stairs and left my house locking the door behind me. I hopped down the front steps and began stretching my legs out. I glanced to my right and saw Nick, Aaron, and the guys in the driveway playing basketball. I laughed watching Aaron try to grab the ball out of AJ's hands. I jogged on the road towards Nick's house. "AJ, give him the ball." I said in a reprimanding tone. Aaron looked towards my direction and then ran to me. He gave me a hug that almost knocked me over.

"Hey A, I think you're getting taller. Now I don't have to hurt my back trying to hug you." He pulled away and gave me this look. "Just kidding. Hey, I gotta go now. Make sure they give you the ball or I'll have to hurt them. Oh, and tell them I said 'hi'." I instructed him. He nodded and I gave him a kiss on the cheek. He ran back to the guys and I waved as I jogged on my merry way.

"Lindsay says 'hi'" Aaron said smiling wide all of a sudden.

"Aaron, you need to calm down. She's too old for you." Brian tried to explain as Aaron frowned.

"Aaron, Jennifer is on the phone!" Jane yelled outside to the group of guys. Aaron's frown went upside down and he ran into the house to retrieve the phone.

"Dude, I wish we could get over a girl just like that." AJ said trying to shoot a 3 pointer. He missed. "Damn."

Forty minutes later the guys were gone and Nick was sitting on his front steps waiting for me to jog past his house on my way home. "She never jogs this long." Nick said glancing at his watch. He stood up and walked down to the end of the street and onto the beach looking around. He looked to his right and saw something on the concrete sidewalk separating the beach and the road. He jogged over to the heap and recognized my olive green wind pants.
