Chapter 16

I was brought back from my thoughts when I realized Nick and I were still kissing. His right arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me closer to his body. That was it. I had enough. With all my strength, I pushed Nick away from me. I stood up from the bed and looked at myself in his mirror. My cheeks were pink and my lips were swollen from the heavy kiss Nick and I shared. I turned around to face him. I noticed a look of disappointment cross his face.

"Nick, I need to get home. My mom hasn't seen me all day." I said and exited the room. I jogged down the stairs and waved goodbye to everyone hoping no one had a clue what Nick and I were doing. I opened the door, but Nick's arm stopped me.

"We're gonna need to talk about this." Nick said looking into my eyes. I leaned up and gave him a quick, soft kiss on the lips. Looking back up at him, I noticed his hair was beginning to get long again.

"I think you need a haircut, babe." And with that, I left. I really didn't want to go home. Honestly, I wanted to talk to someone. Someone close with Nick. The only person Nick and I can always, always talk to is Brian. Hopefully Leighanne would also be home so she could tell me her thoughts on what happened. As I drove towards the place Brian and Leighanne shared, I called my mom on my cell phone to let her know I was gonna make a stop and that I would be home later.

The ride should have been almost forty minutes, but because I really wanted to talk, I made it there in about twenty five minutes. I never bothered to call them and let them know I was coming over. Oh well. I quickly parked my car in front of their house and jogged up the front steps. I rang the doorbell and was greeted by Leighanne.

"Hey Linds." She said and pulled me into the house. She closed the door behind me and I gave her a hug. As I let go of Leigh, I heard little, little footsteps running towards me. I crouched down on my knees and was greeted by Tyk and Litty, the two chihuahuas they owned. I picked each up. Tyk in my left hand and Litty in my right. "So, what brings you here, Linds?" Leigh asked.

"I kinda need to talk to you and Brian." I said. Taking a seat in the living room.

"Did something happen?" She asked looking at me as if trying to figure out what was bothering me. I nodded. "Something with Nick?" She asked. Wow, that surprised me.

"How'd you know?"

"Well, I can just tell...and Nick called a little while ago to talk to Brian." She said smiling a guilty smile. I nodded my head. "He should be down here in a few minutes."

While we waited on Brian, Leigh and I talked about anything and everything. She even gave me some dinner considering I hadn't eaten all day. She is always watching me to make sure I'm eating, so I don't hurt myself again. "How is it?" Leigh asked gesturing towards the chicken on my plate.

"Delicious. I think I should make this at home." I said as I heard footsteps again. Only this time, there were only two feet.

"Hey Linds." Brian said a little shocked to see me there.

"Hey Bri." I said as he bent down to hug me. He sat down next to Leighanne and they kissed while I tried to concentrate on the little bit of chicken left. "Something wrong, Linds?" Brian asked me. I glanced back up at him. I could tell he knew exactly what happened, but he was trying to do his best to act innocent.

"You know what's wrong, Bri. I can tell." I said winking at Leighanne.

"Man, I swear women know everything. I can't keep anything a secret." He said throwing his hands up in the air.

"It's called women's intuition, hun." I said sarcastically. "Now spill." All eyes were on Brian.

"Nick called. He seemed a little upset. He told me he wrote you a letter a little while ago saying that he wanted to get back together with you. You went over his house today to talk and he kissed you..."Brian was interrupted by Leighanne.

"Oooooh, how was it?" She asked.

"Leighanne." Brian and I said in unison with mock disgust in our voices.

"Bottom line is...he doesn't know what's going on between you two. He still loves you, Linds. He really wants you guys to start over." Brian finished.

"Wow, you've got that boy whipped." Leigh said. I put my head in my hands.

"I don't know what to do either. I loved being with him, but I don't want to hurt him. I put him through a lot of crap and I feel really bad about it."

"Don't you see? He cares so much for you that he is willing to get hurt. I don't think you will hurt him, but he knows he will be happy if he's with you again. That's all he wants." Brian was dad serious. He paused. "We know he'll be happy if you two are together, but the question is will you?" Then, all eyes were on me. I had to think about this, but something told me the answer should just come naturally. I shouldn't have to think about. I looked down at my hands and began to fiddle with the promise ring I wore. Thinking of Nick, I looked up at them with a smile on my face.

"I think I would be incredibly happy if Nick and I were together."

With that I received hugs and was quickly escorted out of the house and told I should tell Nick as soon as possible.

As I drove home, I decided to make a stop. First, I called Nick and told him to meet me at a nearby café, but I didn't tell him what it was about. Then I called my mom and told her I would be making yet another pit stop. I also told her I decided to start a relationship with Nick. My mom was thrilled. I think she had an idea something was gonna happen between us.

Five minutes later, I arrived at the café anxiously waiting for Nick to enter. I ordered a muffin and a coffee and took a seat in the corner. Every time I heard the bell of the entrance ring, I looked up hoping to see Nick. Finally, after eating about a quarter of the muffin, Nick walked in. I took a deep breath and smiled at him.

"This seat taken?" He asked looking down at me with the cutest smile I have ever seen. That's it. He got me. I am putty in his hands. This should be no sweat, right???
