Chapter 17

Nick sat down across from me. "Couldn't get enough of me, eh?" Nick
said sarcastically with a warm smile on his face.

"I can never get enough of you, Nick." I said rolling my eyes. He
laughed a little. I could tell he was anxious to see what this meeting
was about. "Maybe I should just tell you and get it over with, right?" I
asked myself not really expecting an answer from Nick.

"Yeah. That sounds like a good choice." Nick replied. I suddenly
lost my appetite and slid the muffin on the plate towards Nick. "Thanks."

He said and practically dove into it like he hadn't eaten in a week.

"Ok. Remember the letter you wrote me a few days ago?" Nick nodded.

"Well, if the offer still stands, I would love to be your girlfriend." I
looked him in the eyes and waited for a response. He swallowed the last
of the muffin and looked at me. His eyes almost seemed to sparkle. I
could tell I had made the right decision.

"Are you sure about this?" He asked seeming a little skeptical of my
choice.

"I'm positive." I said smiling. He reached across the table for my
hand and squeezed it.

"Let's get outta here." He suggested. We stood up, our hands still
together, and left the café. Nick said he had an idea and told me I
should follow him and not ask any questions. With that, I jumped into my
Grand Am and followed Nick's Durango. I had no idea where we were going.

On the journey to the unknown destination, I couldn't stop smiling. I was
so happy Nick and were back together. I vowed to myself I wouldn't screw
up this time. The last thing I wanted to do was hurt Nick. My thoughts
were interrupted as I saw Nick's truck turning into the parking lot of a
nearby beach. I smiled and parked my car to the left of Nick's vehicle.

He walked over to my door and escorted me down the steps to the beach. We
removed our shoes and Nick held both of our pairs in his left hand. He
held onto me with his free hand. We took a seat on the sand just near the
water's edge. He dropped our shoes and pulled me close to his body. I
can't remember the last time I felt so good.

"Lindsay, have you seen anyone else?" Nick asked out of nowhere. I
looked up at him a little surprised.

"Nope."

"Why not?" He asked. I thought for a moment.

"I'm not sure. I've been too preoccupied with other things."

"Like what?" He asked gazing back at the ocean.

"Well, I've been looking for a place of my own. I'm almost 20 and I
need to get out of my parents house-" Nick cut me off.

"Me too. I'm too old to be living with my parents." All of a sudden,
a strong, cold wind brushed past us and I shivered. Nick immediately
removed the Nike jacket he wore, leaving him in a wifebeater. "Here." He
said handing me the jacket. I put it on and quickly glanced at him. I did
a double take to see if my eyes were deceiving me.

"Nick, when did you get this?" I asked touching the shark tattoo on
his left arm.

"I dunno. Almost two months ago, maybe. I got two more, too." He
said and showed me the music note on his back and the tribal band around
his right arm.

"I really like the music note. I wanna get one just like that on my
hip here. Just a little smaller." I said pointing to the spot I was
talking about.

"Here?" He asked touching my hip in the same place. I saw that evil
smirk on his face and laughed at him. I looked up at him and in one swift
motion we were locked in a passionate kiss. Finally...this felt right.
This is the way it's supposed to be.

~Two Days Later (11:00 am)~

I had just stepped out of the shower when the phone rang. I ran into
my room and picked up the cordless. "Hello?"

"Hi. Is this Miss. Keifer?" A woman asked.

"Yes." I replied gripping my towel.

"Oh, hi. This is Miranda Penny...the realtor."

"Oh, yes. How are you?" I asked looking for some clothes to wear.

"I'm fine. I just wanted to see if you'd be interested in looking at
another house today. It just went on the market and I think it'd be
perfect for you." She said happily.

"Sure. That sounds great. What time would you like to meet there?" I
was really excited about seeing another house. We decided we'd meet at
the house around 12:30. I always had someone with me to check out these
houses for approval, but no one was home. I decided to call the next best
thing. I dialed the seven digits and waited for someone to pick up.

"Hello?" I laughed hearing him slightly out of breath.

"Nickolas..." I said sweetly.

"Hey babe, what's up?" He asked kinda out of breath.

"Nothing. What are you doing?"

"I'm playing basketball with Rok, Brent, and AC." That explains why
he's out of breath.

"Would you like to look at a house with me at 12:30?" Nick agreed
and we decided to take his Durango. I dressed nicely in khaki capri pants
and a 3/4 sleeve black button down shirt with my hair half up. I looked a
little older now since the blue dye had finally faded from the tips of my
hair.

I walked to Nick's house at about 12:15 and was greeted by BJ.

"Hey Beej. What's up?" I asked stepping inside.

"Nuttin'. Nick's in his room. He's almost ready." She replied. I
smiled and jogged up the stairs. I knocked on his door.

"Come in." I heard Nick say. I opened the door and closed it behind
me. He stepped out of his closet without a shirt on. I was quite
surprised seeing him like that. I hadn't seen him without a shirt in a
long time and it was apparent he was trying to buff up.

"Be still my heart." I said dramatically and placed my hand over my
heart. He laughed at my antics and hugged me tightly. "I kinda like
this." I said rubbing his back lightly.

"Hey now." He said backing away from me. "Ok, now help me find a
shirt." I sifted through his shirts. I could smell the cologne permeating
from them. I pulled out a red button down t-shirt and a pair of his Tommy
Hilfiger denim shorts. He quickly got changed and put some gel in his
hair and we were off to look at our possible future
