Chapter 14
Nick and I walked out of the game room about an hour later fully exhausted, but very happy. We sat down on the couch, and Nick rested his arm on my shoulder. We had huge smiles spread across our faces, and Leighanne gave me a questioning look as to why our attitudes had changed so much in just an hour's time period.
"You two seem rather happy!" Howie said with a smile, happy to see us not fighting.
"That's cause we are happy," Nick answered.
Howie had no clue why we were so happy, and either did the rest of the guys. I got up from the couch and walked over to where the fridge was, peering inside for something to drink.
"Coke.. Mountain Dew.." I said to myself. "Ah, here we go," I said taking out some 'Tree Top Apple Juice' and placing it on the counter. I reached for a glass and poured myself some juice, getting ready to place the juice back in the refrigerator.
"Hey, Becc, can you pour me some of that?" Leighanne asked.
"Yeah, sure." I got another glass and poured her some filling it to the brim. A little bit of juice dribbled down the side of the cup, and Leighanne licked it off.
"So.. Now, tell me, Becc. Why are you and Nick so jolly all of a sudden? Why the sudden change of attitude?"
"We just talked and sorted things through..." I said feeling my cheeks burning. Leighanne always knew when something was up. It was unbelievable.
"Oh yeah, I believe that," she sarcastically said. "You can't fool me."
"What do you mean? For real, that's what we did!" I defended.
"Well, then why did we all hear noises coming from the back of the bus?"
"Oh god," I muttered. "You heard?" I asked shocked.
"Every word," she answered.
"Oh my god! I'm gonna kill Nick for telling me that no one would hear. I shouldn't have listened to him. I knew it! "
"I was just kidding!! Becc! I was just kidding!" Leighanne soothed.
"Thank god.. Wow, you scared me!" I said smacking her arm. Her glass fell to the floor, shattering it to pieces.
I kneeled down and began to pick the pieces up, and accidentally cut myself. "Ouch!" I yelped.
"Are you alright?" Nick asked rushing to my side. "Here, let me get you cleaned off.."
He took my hand and put it under the tap, and washed off my cut. He grabbed a towel, and pressed it down onto my hand, running his hands up and down my soft skin. "There you go, all better!" He gave me a kiss on my cut, and smiled.
"Thanks Nick."
"No problem, sweetie."
I turned to Leighanne and said "Sorry about that."
"It's OK, Becca. And don't worry I was just joking. The only reason I knew is cause I've experienced the same thing with Brian." She winked at me, and walked away looking for a broom and a dust pan to pick the mess that I had made up.
"What was she talking about?" Nick asked me.
"Girl stuff."
"Is that your answer to everything?"
"Everything I don't want you to know about."
"Our meeting is in an hour, and we're still two hours away!" Kevin groaned at the thought.
We were all stuck on the freeway, barely moving. There had been traffic for the past two hours, and we all didn't know why. Up ahead we saw flashing lights, cop cars, ambulances, fire trucks, and caution signs. We couldn't quite tell what had happened, but it looked like some kind of horrible accident.
"Don't worry, man. Stop worrying. I swear, one of these days your gonna grow a worry wart from all that thinking of yours!" Brian said matter of factly.
"I actually don't mind the traffic," I stated.
"Why?" Kevin asked. "We're gonna be late!"
"Cause that means that I get to spend more time with you guys!" I said squeezing Nick's hand under the table.
"Awww!!" Brian said with a smile. "We're really gonna miss having you Becc. You've only toured with us this one weekend, but we already feel like your a part of the family."
"Thanks Bri! That's very nice to hear.."
"How come you can't stay a little longer?" AJ questioned.
"I have school, remember? I'm only 17... You can't forget that, AJ."
"Well, Nick here is 19 and he's with us! So, what's your excuse?" He said with a laugh.
"Nick is IN your band. It's his job. School is my job. In a month and a half I'll be over and done with. Maybe then I can come on tour with you again. During my summer vacation."
"Man, that would be so dope! You gotta come!" AJ begged.
"Ya you gotta!" Howie agreed.
"It's not that simple guys.. I hate to break it to you. But my mother is a stubborn bitch, and anything that involves having fun, she is totally against. So I wouldn't get my hopes too high."
"Like I said earlier," Nick said. "Our Backstreet Charm will make her change her mind!"
"Nick.. Not to burst your bubble, but I don't think your cute, adorable smile will work on my mother."
"Wanna make a bet?"
"Actually.. Yeah! I do!"
"OK.. What should the bet be guys?" Nick asked his friends.
"How about..." Leighanne thought aloud. "Whoever loses has to--"
"I have an idea!" Brian interrupted. "Sorry babe.. This is to good not to say!"
"NO, I have an idea!" Nick said. "Mine is by far the best.."
"What is it?" We all asked in anticipation.
Nick leaned into my ear and whispered "Loser has to strip for the winner. And the winner is allowed to do ANYTHING they want to the loser..."
A smile crept up on my face and I whispered back, "so, its basically a win, win situation."
"You got it babe!"
"I'm in!!!" I said loudly.
"What's the bet?" Kevin and AJ both asked eagerly.
"Something that's gonna remain a secret between Becc and myself.." Nick answered.
"Ewww! You pervs!" AJ said shocked. "Well.. Actually..." he said looking up, and letting his imagination run wild.
Nick slapped AJ on the arm and yelled, "Stop thinking nasty things about my girlfriend!"
AJ continued to look up, not even acknowledging the hard slap he had just received.
"Oooo.. I'm liking what I'm seeing!!" he whispered to himself.
"AJ!!!!!!!!" I yelled slapping him just as hard as Nick, and probably a little harder.
"I was just joking!" He looked down at his now red arm, and muttered softly, "Owww.."
The bus pulled up to my father's office an hour and a half late. Getting out of that traffic jam was a pain, but somehow we managed to do it. I had called my dad on my cell phone and told him that we would be a little late. He didn't seem to mind, which I was very happy about. But then again, now that I think of it, he never really minded, because I was such a daddy's girl. And still am to this day. I had so many things to tell him about Nick's and my relationship. I knew that we would be up all night talking, regardless of whether my mom liked it or not. I hadn't even told him that Nick and I had hooked up. I couldn't wait to see the look of surprise when he would see us together. That's the only thing I was looking forward to. Saying good-bye to my new friends, and boyfriend was going to be one of the hardest things I would have to do. Well, at least back then it would have been.
The doors of the bus opened, and out stepped: Howie, then AJ, Leighanne, Kevin, Brian, and lastly Nick and myself. As I was about to step out of the bus, Nick grabbed my waist, and I turned to face him.
"I can't wait to see who loses the bet.." He said with a mischievous grin on his face.
I laughed, gave him a peck on the cheek and hopped out of the bus.
"Daddy!!!" I said jumping into my fathers arms. He twirled me around, and gave me a kiss on top of the head. I felt like I hadn't seen him in ages, even though it was only three days.
"Hi Rebecca! Did you have fun with the boys? I hope they didn't cause you too much trouble."
"No, dad. They were all great to me. I had the most awesome time!"
Everyone was gathered in my dad's big office.
"That's great to hear, dear," he said with a smile.
He greeted everyone, including Leighanne, and offered for them to sit down.
Kevin, Howie, and AJ sat on the chairs, and since there were only two more Leighanne sat on Brian's lap, and I sat on Nick's. When my father saw this he gave me this look as to say: "I wanna know about this.." I nodded my head in agreement, and smiled at my loving father.
"Now that we've all been comfortably seated," my father began. "Let's get down to business."
The meeting was a very brief one. All that was discussed were financial things. Things that I didn't understand, and things that I had no interest in understanding. The guys, and Leighanne were scheduled to stay the night in town, and stay throughout the next day, leaving at around 3:00. I was very angry when I found this out because that meant that I wouldn't be able to see them at all the next day since my school got out at 3:30.
As we all got up to leave the office I took my dad aside and asked him, "is there anyway that you can have them leave at like 6:00 or something?"
"Sorry, I can't do that. They are on a tight schedule, and the faster they get out of California, the faster this tour will be over and done with."
"When exactly is it going to be over, daddy?"
"One month from today, to be precise. Then, they have 4 weeks off, and after that they have their European tour which lasts for 2 and a half months."
"I have one more question for you," I said in a hushed voice.
Nick was looking over at me, and I smiled. I turned my back, not wanting him to hear my conversation with my father.
"Where do they stay during their downtime?"
"Florida. That's where their houses are."
My face fell, and I sadly nodded my head. If only they had houses in California. Then that would have been perfect.
"I'm sorry hunny.. There's nothing I can do. Although I wish there was."
This would be the first time in my life, where my father couldn't fix my problem.
