Chapter 22

The Next Day at 11:58

Tiffany's View

I'm at the airport waiting for Darlene's flight to come in. I can't wait to see her. I've missed talking to her in person and making jokes and faces. It's just the stupid things we do that I miss the most when I'm away from her.

"Flight 127 from Denver, Colorado has arrived," the speaker voice said. I got up from my seat and waited. I saw the plane come up to the terminal and stop. I smiled and waited as one person after another came out. Finally I saw Darlene.

"Darlene!" I screamed. She turned her head and smiled. She ran over to me, dropped her carry on bag and hugged me.

"Girl! I've missed you so much!" I said hugging her back.

"I've missed you too!" she said.

"So how was your flight?" I asked looking at my short friend. She's 19, almost 20 and about 5'3 or 4, she has long brown hair and eyes and she's skinny. I guess you can say she's really pretty. Nick is going to love her! I just know it!

"It was complete hell!" she said picking up her bag and putting it on her shoulder.

"What happened?" I asked.

"I was seated in between the two fattest people alive! I couldn't breath! And all they did was eat! Chips, candy, cookies, everything! The guy to my right even had the nerve to ask if I had any food and if he could have my lunch!"

"That sucks," I said scrunching up my nose. "But from here on out you're going to have the most fun vacation of your entire life!"

"Hopefully!" she laughed.

"C'mon let's get the rest of your bags and go to your new home for the next three weeks," I said starting to walk towards baggage claim.

"OK," she said walking right beside me. We got her bags and went to my Mustang convertible. I put her bags in the trunk and got in the driver's seat.

"God it's really humid here!" Darlene whined.

"You'll get used to it and wearing the right kind of clothes would help a lot," I laughed referring to her sweater and pants.

"I wasn't going to where a tank top and shorts to the airport in Colorado. It was freezing there!"

"OK! I'm just saying it would help!"

"Yeah it sure would!" she sighed.

"You're still upset about Matt aren't you?" I asked driving down the high way.

"How'd you guess?" She asked sarcastically.

"You don't seem your normal self."

"Well you're right about that. Tiffany I was so in love with the guy. I never saw it coming. We were so happy! He didn't even give any signs of him wanting or going to break up with me!"

"It's OK Darlene. He just wasn't meant for you. That right guy is out there somewhere and I know for sure that you'll meet him soon."

"I really hope so Tiff," she sighed.

"I promise," I said smiling at her.

"If you say so," she said smiling at me.

We drove the rest of the way talking about what's been happening in Colorado and what I've missed. Finally we arrived at the house. A gate surrounds it so the fans can't get in so I have to type in a code for the gates to open. I typed the numbers in and the gates slowly opened. I drove in and the gates closed behind me. I drove up to the driveway and parked.

"DAMN!" Darlene said with her eyes wide looking at the house or as most people say, Mansion. "This place is huge!"

"I had the same reaction as you when I first saw the place," I laughed getting out of the car. Darlene got out too but never took her eyes off the house.

I got her bags out of the trunk and carried them to the door. I opened it and walked in. I put the bags down and turned to see Darlene with her mouth wide open in awe.

"You like?" I asked smiling.

"Oh yeah!" she said looking around. "Brian bought this for you?"

"Yeah"

"God I wish I had a man that would buy me something like this," she laughed. I laughed with her. She will soon! I guarantee it!

"Brian!?" I called.

"I'm in the kitchen! Did you pick up Darlene!?"

"Yeah!" I called back.

Darlene looked at me wide eyed; "He knows my name?"

"Yeah," I laughed.

"Hi! You must be Darlene!" Brian said coming out of the kitchen.

"Yeah that would be me," she said smiling the widest she's ever smiled before.

"I'm Brian! Tiffany's baby duck," he smiled shaking her hand.

"Baby duck?" she asked shaking his hand.

"It's his nick name," I said.

"What does he call you?"

"Princess," Brian said smiling at me. I smiled back.

"How cute!" Darlene said smiling at me.

"Shut up!" I said. She just laughed.

"So where's Mickey?" Darlene asked me.

"Mickey?" Brian asked confused.

"I call Michelle that," Darlene said.

"Oh I see," Brian said nodding his head.

"Um I don't know," I said looking at Brian for an answer.

"OH! Nick took her out," Brian said.

"N…Nick?" Darlene stuttered.

"Yeah Nick," Brian nodded his head.

Darlene looked at me nervously.

"Um let me show you to your room," I said picking up a couple of her bags and grabbing her hand. We went up the stairs and down the hall. I opened the door and walked in.

"DUDE!" Darlene said looking at her room. I was kind of like mine and Brian's but it's not as big.

"You like?"

"Yep! I'm in heaven!"

"You'll even be in more heaven when Nick comes back," I said watching her face for her reaction. Her face turned from amazed to really nervous.

"It's going to be OK! It's just Nick," I shrugged.

"Easy for you to say! I haven't known him my whole life! You have! I know him as Nick Carter from the Backstreet Boys and I'm madly in love with him! I'm a nervous wreck!"

"Chill! Just be yourself! He knows that you're coming so it won't surprise him when he meets you."

"He knew that I was coming?"

"Yeah I called him yesterday about it."

"Oh God," she said starting to pace in the room.

"Calm down!" I laughed.

"Tiffy! I'm back with your daughter! I didn't kidnap her!" I heard Nick call from downstairs. You could tell he was smiling. Darlene looked at me with wide eyes.

"OK Nicky! I'll be down in a second!" I yelled. I turned to Darlene and said, "Now just act yourself and just say hi."

"OK," she said fiddling with her hands.

"C'mon," I said walking out of the room. She followed slowly behind me. We walked down the stairs and then I walked into the living room finding Nick on the Nintendo.

"Hey Nicky!" I said smiling.

"Oh hey Tiffy!" Nick turned around and smiled.

"I'd like you to meet by best friend from Colorado," I started to say and turned around. Darlene was no where to be found.

"Darlene!" I whispered. "Get in here!"

She walked around the corner very slowly.

"C'mon!" I said impatiently walking over to her and grabbing her hand. I dragged her over to Nick, who was now standing waiting for Darlene to come over, and introduced her.

"Nick this is Darlene, Darlene this is Nick," I said standing in between the two of them. Nick held out his hand and smiled, "Hi! It's nice to meet you!"

Darlene took his hand and shook it smiling like a fool, "Hi! It's nice to finally meet you too!"

They kept shaking hands when Nick said, "Um I kind of need my hand back."

"Oh! I'm so sorry!" Darlene said dropping her hand. Her cheeks were turning a bright red.

"It's OK," Nick laughed. I elbowed him in the stomach.

"OW!" he said grabbing his stomach and looking at me annoyed.

"Don't laugh," I whispered.

"Oh sorry," Nick whispered back. "So Darlene! Do you want to play Mario Kart with me?"

"Yeah sure," Darlene smiled. Nick sat down again and Darlene sat next to him. Nick gave her a controller and then started the game. I looked at Brian and he was laughing quietly. I looked at him curiously and went over to him. I grabbed his arm and brought him out of the living room and into the hall.

"Why are you laughing?" I asked.

"It's just it was so noticeable that Darlene likes Nick!" he said smiling.

"Don't make fun of her! She was really nervous about meeting him!"

"I didn't make fun of her!"

"Not yet anyway!" I said rolling my eyes.

"Look I'm not going to make fun of her. I think it's cute and I think they would be a good couple."

"You promise you won't do anything to embarrass her?"

"I promise," he said kissing me softly on the lips.

"Thanks," I said softly.

"Anything for you," he smiled.
