Chapter 5

Nick left a week ago; I miss him so much. The entire 3 days I had to be on bed rest Nick waited on me hand and foot, from soup to song…anything to help. When I asked why he did it, he looked me strait in the eye and simply told me that he loved me.

I walked into my first class of the day, it started at 6:30am to 8:00am, and then at 9:45am I head on over to the pre-school. Today's class seemed to linger on forever, my thoughts kept drifting to Nick, I've never felt this way with anyone, and I am totally and completely in love with him. I truly believe that God brought us together. The professor finally dismissed us and I raced home, I was hoping Nick would call and check up on me like he had every day for the past week. I walked through the door just in time to hear the phone ring.

"Hello" I answered breathlessly.

"Baby?" I heard Nick say, he sounded extremely tired.

"Oh, Nick, I miss you so much."

"I miss you too sweetheart. I'm so tired, I've been having trouble sleeping, you're all I ever think about anymore, don't get me wrong, all the thoughts are wonderful, but I miss you so much it hurts."

"Me too Nick, like you wouldn't believe." I said, tears coming to my eyes.

"I really need to talk to you, I don't get vacation for another 3 months though…"

"I know, it can't wait?"

"Yeah, it can, I just don't want it too."

"When will you be back?"

"On our year and 6 month anniversary." He answered, Nick never forgot an anniversary, every month he either gave, or sent me something. It was a special tradition, sometimes it was poetry, sometimes it was roses, but he never forgot. I in return always got him something, it didn't always have to be big and expensive, that was for big anniversaries, and it was normally simple but treasured. It was a tradition we had both grown to love.

"I can't wait…you know that right?" I asked

"Yeah, neither can I, but I'll still call every morning!" He said with a laugh.

"You better." I giggled, which caused me to cough, which caused me to wheeze, which caused Nick to worry.

"Hey, you need to take your medication, I don't want to get called down there on emergency. I don't want to hear girlfriend and hospital in the same sentence got it?" He said sternly.

"Yes daddy."

"Look, I'll get AJ if you don't take it, you know he'll be on the first plane down there and he'll give it to you himself if you don't."

"Okay, hang on." I went and took my medicine and returned to the phone.

"There, I took it, happy?" I asked somewhat annoyed.

"Yes, princess I'm happy." I heard the unmistakable raspy voice of my godfather.

"POOH!" I screamed.

"Hey sweetie, Nick had to run off for a sec, he'll be back, I just wanted to say hi, and make sure you're taking all that medicine they gave you."

"Man, you sound like my father!" I laughed.

"Hey, it's in my job description, I miss you, here's Nick, don't keep him long though, we're off to the venue in about a half hour, and if I recall correctly you have a waiting pre-school class to get too."

"Okay, love you."

"You too princess."

"Hey baby, I'm back, sorry, they wanted me to sign some papers."

"Oh, that's okay, I took my medicine, you can be worry free all day…I better let you go."

"Okay, I love you."

"I love you too…I'll talk to you tonight." Nick called at nights also, to "tuck me in" he normally called and sang a song and blew a kiss through the phone. I'd tell him I loved him and we'd both sleep easier.

"You bet…see ya later sweetheart."

"Bye" I heard a click on the other end signaling the end of our conversation. I walked into my closet, changed into my overalls and went to the land of pre-school.
