Chapter 5

Nick walked into the living room with a sad look on his face. I looked at Brian and he smiled. "Nick, what's wrong?" He looked at Brian and I.

"Your mom..."

"Yeah?" I said with wide eyes.

"Said you could stay!" he said with a cheesy grin.

"You are so horrible, Nick. I thought something happened."

"Sorry. She said she's gonna drop off a duffel bag of clothes for you in a few minutes. She sounded surprised when I called and asked if you could stay over." he said.

"Well, I don't usually sleep over a guy's house." I replied.

"Ohhhhh." Nick said.

"Yo, Frack. I gotta go. I'll see ya tomorrow. Call me when you two decide when to go to the mall." Brian said feeling left out. Brian got up to leave, but Nick didn't follow him. Rude. I thought. I got up to walk with Brian to the door. "It was nice meeting you, Lindsay. I hope we can hang out more often. You're like one of the guys!" Brian said with a cheeky smile. I've always hated that expression. I'm a girl, people!

"Yeah, you're alright Brian." I replied. I gave him a sad look. I really didn't want him to leave. He was really cool to hang around with. He just turned to look at me and gave me a hug. "Thanks, B. See ya tomorrow!" I said with a smile. He nodded and I watched as he walked to his jeep. He waved before he peeled out of the driveway. I waved bak and turned to go into the house. I closed the door and walked into the living room to find no one there.

"Nick?! Don't make me look for you. I don't know my way around this house!" I yelled.

"Aww man, you're no fun!" I heard Nick's voice behind me.

"Sorry, Nick."

"Hey, wanna watch a movie before I set your room up?" he asked.

"Sure" Nick took my hand and we walked into a room right next door to Nick's.

"I'd put you in my room, but I don't think our parents would like that."

I nodded my head in agreement. "And I didn't want to put you in a guest room 'cuz they're at the other end of the house and I don't want you all the way over there, so you can stay in BJ's room." I stepped farther into the room. It was quite big with white walls, baby blue carpeting, and a baby blue border around the room. I began to sit on the bed when I heard the doorbell ring. "Stay here, Linds. I'll get it." Before I could protest he was out of the room. I heard him walk heavily down the stairs and then open the door. "Hey, Mom." Nick said. I sighed and laid on the bed. Nick... he was a funny guy. Always calling my mom Mom. We've only known each other a few days, but we are really good friends. I feel so different around him. I can tell him everything, just like...Steve. My thoughts drifted from Nick to Steve. Why is it so hard? I began to lightly cry when Nick entered the room.

"Lindsay, are you alright? Is it Steve?" I looked up at him. "It is, isn't it?"

Nick asked. I nodded my head. Nick dropped my duffel bag my mom gave him and walked over to the bed. He sat down next to me and put his right arm around me. "Linds, think of it this way." I looked up at him listening intently. I looked into his eyes while he spoke. "You left PA, you left your friends, your house. Everything. Now you're in Florida, with me, and you have a new house. You should forget your past, make a fresh start. It's a whole new life, Linds. You'll make more friends once we start school and everything will be better. Just look forward to the future. Forget your past."

"Nick, thanks a lot. Why are you so nice to me? I don't deserve any of this." I replied. By this time the tears had stopped.

"Lindsay, believe me when I say this. I know we've only known each other a few days, but I feel different when I'm around you. Usually, I try to impress the girls I'm around, but I don't need to with you. I think there is some sort of bond here. I think we are gonna be good friends. You are a wonderful person. I love your personality. You've got the personality that makes guys go crazy. The room brightens up when you walk into it even when you cry." Nick said wiping away a tear of happiness that had fallen from my eye with his thumb. "I think you should go to sleep. You look like you've had a long day. I'll be right next door. Just remember we're gonna have fun tomorrow. I just know the other guys are gonna love you. Ok?"

I nodded. Nick began to walk out of the room.

"Nick?" Nick turned around. "Thanks for everything. You are a really great guy. Goodnight." Nick walked over to me and placed a light kiss on my forehead.

"Sleep tight, Linds. I'll wake you up tomorrow." Nick quietly exited the room and smiled at me from the door. I closed my eyes just as the door closed. I didn't realize it, but I fell asleep with a cheesy grin plastered on my face. As Nick walked back to his room, he took one more glance at the door he just closed and smiled. "Tomorrow will be good for her." he said as he closed his own bedroom door.
