Chapter 7
Nick and I played Nintendo for a while and then we finally got bored and decided to talk. We talked about Aubrey and about all my other friends and then the conversation traveled to my birthday and then as if a light bulb went off in Nick's head he told me to hold on and he went to his bunk and brought something back.
"Here nanner this is your Birthday present from me, I know it's early but I can't wait any longer, so OPEN IT!!" I tore the wrapping paper off and then carefully opened the tiny box, inside was a gold ring that was decorated with silver slivers. I looked at it and my eyes started to water over.
"Nick, it's beautiful, I love it!!" I said softly
"It's a promise ring, promising that we'll always be close friends. Will you wear it for me please, I have one too, I was waiting to give you yours before I started to wear mine."
"Yes, Nick, of course I'll wear it, forever and always." I said, my voice cracking and my tears evident. With that Nick slipped the ring onto my finger and wiped my tears.
"Lemme go get mine okay!" then he got up and walked to his bunk coming back with an identical ring to mine, only, his was a little bigger!!
"You wanna put it on me??" Nick asked me sincerely
"Yeah, I do" I said still trying to calm my tears. I slowly slipped it on his finger and looked into his eyes, his face just kept coming nearer and nearer until
"Yo Nickay, Princess the bus is stopping at Mickey D's!!!" yelled AJ
"Look Christy that couldn't have happened we are best friends nothing more right??"
"Yeah, Nick, it would just be weird to date you!!!" I said with a laugh
"HEY!!" Nick said in a mock hurt tone.
"You know what I mean Carter!!"
"Yeah, I do! Friends?"
"ah, heck, why not!!" we hugged and all that had happened before other than the exchanging of our promises was forgotten.
"Hey guys, what's with the rings??" asked Brian
"Oh" I said trying to gulp the last of my diet coke down before answering.
"Nick gave mine to me for my birthday, they are promise rings symbolizing a promised friendship forever!!" I answered with a smile
"Hey Nicky, I'm hurt I thought I was your friend!!" Brian said with sarcasm.
"Awwww…does Brian want a ring too!!???" Nick said matching Bri's sarcasm.
"You know C I'm hurtin' here, you may just have to get one of those rings too!!" Brian said to me holding his heart as if to act in pain.
"Yeah, Bri, I'll get you one……. Phsaw….when pigs fly!!" we
all cracked up at that one and then under his breath Brian said something
along the lines of "you two are so perfect for each other, why can't you
see it" and that was that.
