Chapter 9
I walked into the airport in Lexington looking for some sign of Bri or Kev. My flight was about an hour early so I didn't expect them there quite yet. That's when I heard it- a sweet sound that my ears had grown quite fond of hearing-it was in a soft whisper in my ear.
"Hey punkin, whatcha doing here so early?" I turned around to find myself face to face with Nick, that's right Nick!!
"NICK!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE???" I said, rather loudly, biting on my bottom lip, my eyes lit up like they had seen magic.
"Hey babe, I wanted it to be a surprise, but looks like your flight got in too early for that huh??" He said grinning from ear to ear.
"Yeah, I got in early, but why are you here??" I asked
"Well, a couple days ago I was moping around the house complaining that I wanted to see you again, mom asked me about you and I told her everything, she said that it would be really special if I surprised you on your birthday by coming here, well, since it being your first birthday since the…..uh…." he looked at me with uncertainty
"It's okay Nick, since the accident, I'm okay, I know my parents are with me at heart"
"Yeah, and so I called AJ to see when your flight was going to arrive then I called Bri and Kev to tell them to pick me up and well, I just got here a few minutes ago and saw ya sittin' here and decided that you needed some company and since we're both waiting for the same person, I figured that we could do it together." Nick said and gave me a side ways glance.
I smiled and the slowly it came to me… "….that's what he meant…."
"That's what who met hun??"
"AJ, he told me my birthday wasn't over yet, he knew I was going to see you!!"
"Are you okay with it??" he asked
"Yeah, I am, MORE than okay in fact, I thought I was gonna pop when I saw you!!"
Then we sat and waited for Bri to come and pick us up.
"Hey Nick??" I asked slyly
"yeeeeah??" he asked
"you called this morning, how could you have called, you should have been on a plane by then."
He looked at me sheepishly and said, "I was on a plane, and I needed to hear your voice, just as a reassurance that I wasn't hopping a plane for nothing, I paid a pretty penny to call you from there!!" we both laughed and then he looked at me then bent down and kissed my cheek.
"Hey, I can come back guys, really I can" we heard Brian saying as Nick looked up.
"Hey gurlie!! Happy birthday!!" Bri said to me
"Thanks Bri!!" I said cheerily
"How bout we get you home so you can eat one of mamma's home cooked birthday meals and Kev's mom's special birthday cake and then you can go to bed??" Brian asked as if he knew what I was thinking
"Bri, you just read my mind!!!"
