Chapter 5
I decided to tan a little bit before going in the water, so I lathered on some sunscreen and closed my eyes. I listened to the sound of the crashing waves and the others laughing. All of a sudden, I heard Na scream something.
"Kris, watch out!" I opened my eyes to a bucket of cold water. Very cold water.
"Aahh!" I yelled, jumping to my feet. Brian grinned at me, a smile that struck me as quite cute.
"I thought it was time you joined us," then started laughing at the expression on my face. I was ready to kill him.
"I'm gonna get you," I warned, before turning my back on him and going out to join Kevin and Nina in the water. I had to think of something really evil to get him back.
"Hey, where is AJ, Howie D. and Nick?" I asked. We'd been here for a while and were still alone. Kevin pointed up at the cliff, where three guys were waving down at us. I watched as Kevin pulled out his surfboard and headed for some major waves.
"Wow, he's good," I said out loud, more to myself than anyone else. Brian said from behind me, right next to my ear, "Yeah, he is." I promptly got dunked, and I came up sputtering and laughing.
"Thanks Brian," I laughed. A thin, muscular guy threw his stuff on the beach and ran into the water, laughing like a maniac.
"Oh my L*rd, is he nuts?" I asked Brian, who still stood by me. He winked, replying, "100%. That is AJ McLean. Howie D. is the guy with the black pony tail and Nick is the blond one." AJ made his way towards us and I saw his arms were covered with tattoos. He even had a 69 around his belly button, my lucky number. Did I forget to mention that his abs were, well, WOW! That went for all the guys, even Nick, though maybe not so much as the others.
"Hey B-Rok, wassup? Who's the lovely lady there with you, looking so sexy in that bathing suit?" I glanced down at my black bikini and turned red with all the compliments.
"Hey man, it's all good. This is Kris, the young woman I told you about on the phone," Brian said. AJ looked at me and winked.
"Hey, Kris. I'm AJ and yes, I'm crazy as I appear, if B-Rok didn't tell you already," AJ introduced himself, then caught me off guard by pulling me in a tight, slippery hug, then whispered in my ear, "He couldn't stop talking about you, Kris."
"Um, hi AJ! Thank you, I'll keep that in mind..." I think I'm really going to like these guys! *
I had the most fun of my life that day at the beach with Nina and the guys. Kevin taught me how to surf and we all had great fun. Howie D. turned out to be a real sweetie, and I could tell that Nina immediately fell for the tall, blue-eyed Nick. Later, I nudged Brian as we sat on the beach, making designs in the glistening sand.
"Isn't that cute?" I whispered. Na came up to about Nick's chest and they were holding hands, walking down the beach, watching the setting sun. Brian got a real weird look on his face for a second, then smiled and agreed with me. He had just opened his mouth to say something when my cell phone rang. Everybody was digging through their bags, but I knew it wasn't theirs.
"Yo, chill, this one's mine," I called as I unearthed my newly recharged cell phone. It was getting dark as I snapped it open and said, "Hello, this is Kris."
"Kris, baby, I am so sorry. Please, give me another chance," Josh pleaded from his end. I moved away from the others as they lit a huge bonfire, getting ready to cook dinner. I had a feeling this wasn't going to be pretty.
"Josh, listen to me because I am only gonna say this once. Ready? You would've thrown a fit if you came to a party and found me sleeping with some guy. I don't now how this is any less of a sin for you and I think my reaction, and dumping you, is quite proper. I have no desire to see you again, there is no more you and me." My voice got louder as my anger grew.
"But she meant nothing to me, and I love you like I've never felt love for anyone before. Please baby, give me another chance." Josh was whining, and it was starting to get on my nerves.
"No, Josh! Why are you always so hard of hearing when you don't get the answers you want? Never again, Josh. Please don't call me or try to contact me again," I yelled, and heard some very nasty sworn oaths before I hung up on him.
"D*mn him and the effect that he has on me," I swore under my breath as I walked back towards the bonfire. Everybody was toasting hot dogs on sticks.
"Hey babe, there's a stick and hot dog here for you when you want one," AJ called as I tossed my cell phone back with my stuff.
"Thanks, Bone. I'll be back in a few minutes," I said, trying to ignore the concerned looks sent my way. I knew that they'd heard me, I'm not oblivious to the fact that they can hear or that I was loud. I walked far down the beach, so that the fire was a dot in my vision and their voices no more than a whisper upon the warm breeze. I laid in the soft sand and stared up at the sky, a deep blue sea lit up with millions of stars that glittered like diamonds. A sense of peace came over me as the sound of the waves washed over me and stars that had captivated me for years calmed my soul. I don't know how much time passed, but a quiet voice called, "Hey Kris, is that you?" I smiled, then teased, "I dunno Bone, sometimes I wonder."
"So, what's up? We're worried about you babes," AJ said, sitting next to me.
"AJ, I'm just so confused, and now I feel bad for Brian. I seriously like him, but I don't know if I'm ready for a relationship yet." I explained what exactly happened that night I met Brian. AJ hugged me and held me close as I started crying again, his bare chest warm against my skin as I just let go.
"Hey babes, forget about him, he isn't worth your tears. I heard Brian say once, 'No man is worth your tears, and the one who is won't make you cry.' Or something like that. Tell Brian that you aren't ready for a relationship. He needs to hear it from you, but I don't think he'll have a problem with it. He's cool like that. Speaking of Brian, how would you like revenge on him?" AJ's eyes twinkled behind his sunglasses, and I grinned madly.
"I'd love it, what's the plan?" *
