Chapter 62
That Night
Nick's View
"Darlene, why can't you just call your parents and
tell them to not come?" I whined from our bed. Darlene walked out of the
bathroom putting her hair up.
"Why do you want them to stay home so much?" she asked
putting her hands on her hips and looking at me with curious eyes.
"Because they hate my guts!" I exclaimed.
"They don't hate you, you just hate them."
"I don't hate them honey," I said gently. "It's just
that your dad treats me like shit and I don't deserve it."
"He doesn't treat you like shit, he just treats you
differently," she shrugged.
"Differently? Darlene he gives me evil looks and I
swear he wants me dead! I'm surprised he even let me marry you," I
sighed.
"He let me marry you because he likes you," she said.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Baby, why are you defending them? I'm your husband
for crying out loud!"
"Just because you're my husband doesn't mean I should
always side with you Nicholas. I love my parents and I have nothing to be
mad about with them."
"I can't believe you! You don't think your dad hates
me huh? Then you must be fucking blind!" I yelled standing up.
"What the hell is your problem!? Don't curse and yell
like that! Hannah can probably hear you and No I don't think my father hates
you! Why can't you just let it go!?" she yelled.
I sighed and ran my hands through my hair frustrated.
I'm never going to convince her that her parents hate me. I don't see why
she's defending them. Yeah, they are her parents but I'm her husband.
"Look Nick...I'm not going to argue with you anymore
but I just want you to know that it hurts me to hear you bash my parents
and accuse them of hating you. They don't hate you Nick and they never have.
I don't know why you want to make them look so bad," she said softly.
"Sweetie, I'm really sorry that I'm hurting you
but...Darlene I just don't want them to hate me," I said walking up to her
and looking her in the eyes.
"Nick how many times do I have to tell you? They don't
hate you," she said.
I sighed and finally decided to give in. It was no
use fighting with the woman you love over her parents, "OK, they don't hate
me and I apologize for anything rude and uncalled for that I said."
"Thank you Nicky," she said kissing me on the lips.
"Anything for you my sweet," I said lightly kissing
her.
"Now let's go to bed my big teddy bear," she said
patting my belly. I smiled and walked over to the bed and hopped in. Once
Darlene got in bed I turned the light off and slipped my hand around her
waist. I kissed her head and said good night and slowly drifted off to
sleep.
