Chapter 8
Along the way to the park, we chatted merrily. By the time we reached the park, I could already see signs of life as the town started to stir. We kept still on a bench.
"I love it when the golden rays smite in the face," I broke the silence.
"Hey, a young lad like you usually doesn't go for anything so sentimental."
"Really? But I'm still a guy, aren't I?" I tried to halt his curiosity.
"Somehow you are different to me. I don't know how to put them in words but I can sense that you are more sophisticated and complicated than you boy-next-door look," he scrutinized my eyes. His gazes made me uncomfortable and I turned away. He seemed to have the power to see through me. Thus, I promptly changed the subject.
"See that big tree?" I pointed out to him.
"Yeah."
"The tree against the light looks magnificent. It towers above all the others and stands there like the guardian of the park. Brian and I think that it's the king of all the plants in the park."
Justin laughed.
"It sounds childish, doesn't it?" I said.
"No. I don't mean that. It's good to let your imagination runs wild. It's a kind of pleasure."
A moment of silence hit us. The atmosphere was awkward. Justin must have sensed it.
"Well, got to go. What about you?"
"I will stay here for a little longer. Nice chat with you."
"Same here. See you other day."
"Bye." Justin took his leave.

Brian~
The doorbell woke me up. It was only 8:00 am. Sam
was nowhere to be seen in the house. Where had her been? It must be her at
the doorstep. A blur person like her must have forgotten her keys.
However, I was wrong. At the doorstep were the two
workers working in the study room for the past one-month. It had been so
long yet their work wasn't accomplished yet.
I let them in and close the door behind me. Then,
I went to the bathroom to wash up. After keeping myself awake, I went to
the kitchen and pour myself a glass of milk.
Sigh! Suddenly, I felt that the atmosphere was drab.
Maybe without Sam around, the exuberant air went away together with her.
At this point of my thinking, the front door opened. I was glad to see her
again.
"Where have you been?"
"Missing me already?"
"Sort of."
"What 'sort of'?" she laughed and walked towards
me.
"Tell me. Where did you go?"
"To the park. So many beauty to see in the
morning."
"So bad of you to leave me alone and went to enjoy.
Now, you must bear the brunt of it," I giggled. Without any warning, I jumped
to her side. Startled, she started to run and I chased.
She then jumped up the sofa.
"Don't come near me!" she yelled.
"You can't run away from me."
She stood up on the sofa. When I made an alarming
plunge to her, she fell down from the sofa. Promptly, I took a look behind
the sofa and saw her lying on the floor, whining in pain.
"See what you have done."
I was kind of worried seeing her in pain but was relieved
when the identical smile brightened up her face. The two of us burst into
laughter.
"Stop laughing and give me a hand." Her hands reached
out for mine. I came down from the sofa and went to her. After pulling her
up to her feet again, I put my arms around her.
"Some say 'single' is simple, 'double' is trouble.
But for me, 'single is loneliness, 'double' is happiness," I stroked her
short hair.
"There is a flame in every hearts. But firstly, it
needs another sparkler to lit it up," she whispered to me.
"And you must add fire woods from time to time to
let it burn forever."
"Yeah, and you are my sparkler."
"So are you to me. Ours is the fire that won't be
distinguished even by heavy rain." I lay my lips on her forehead. Both of
us were relishing the mystical moment when a voice broke into our world.
"Excuse me, erm
"
We pulled away from each other, feeling embarrassed.
It was one of the workers. He seemed embarrassed too.
"Sorry that I disrupted. Sam, we are having some problems.
Can you come with me for a while?"
"Yeah."
Oh, God! He saw us. What would he think? He must be
thinking like the others too. He must be thinking that I was a gay. I should
have been more careful. I really didn't want anyone to misunderstood. But
I had to keep this secret to myself for the sake of Sam. When could I ever
get myself out of this?
